Russian industrial enterprises, examined by the Russian Economic Barometer are grouped according to two criteria: the level of capacity utilization rate, as well as the level of debts to banks. This grouping allows you to see how key characteristics of enterprises differ depending on how their production capacities are loaded and what level of debts to banks they have. Data are presented for the third quarter of 2020.

Industrial indexes of the Russian Economic Barometer cover a wide range of economic indicators of Russia’s industrial enterprises. The article presents the basic statistical data collected on a monthly, quarterly and semi-annual base by the Russian Economic Barometer through direct surveys of industrial enterprises’ managers. Regular extension of rows allows to consider the dynamics of more than 100 series of indicators, to conduct a comparative analysis of data collected since 1991.

The article presents the results of the survey of the heads of structural divisions of German companies operating in Russia – on the outcome of their activity in 2020 and expectations for 2021. Top-managers indicate the deterioration of business climate in 2020 and express the pessimism in relation to the situation in 2021. Most of them define their current business position in Russia as satisfactory. The majority of them do not plan to attract additional labor force and to implement new investment projects in 2021. Respondents highlight three most acute current problems of the Russian market (ruble’s exchange rate, anti-pandemic measures, low economic activity), point to the deterioration of German-Russian relations in 2020. They consider Nord Stream 2 as an important contribution to ensuring energy supply to Europe and at the same time expect a decrease in the importance of Russia as an energy partner of the EU by 2050, assess the measures of the Russian government to support the economy during the coronacrisis period as insufficient and indicate the most promising business sectors and regions of the country.

The article presents unique data on the Russian agricultural sector, which has been gathered by the Russian Economic Barometer for almost 30 years. There is published statistics reflecting the attitude of the heads of agricultural enterprises towards the economic policy of the government. There are presented data revealing the degree of importance for the agricultural producers of various factors limiting production and capital investments.

The article presents the results of economic activity of industrial enterprises of Russia in 2020, and provides forecasts for 2021. In general for the major part of the surveyed enterprises (REB’s respondents) 2020 turned out to be not worse than the previous year, and judging by several parameters even better. Forecasts for 2021 became les optimistic then they were a year ago.

The article presents the results of the survey about competitiveness held by the REB among the Russian industrial managers, who assessed the level of competitiveness of their production and level of intensity of competition; evaluate the markets where their production is competitive; estimate the factors negatively affecting competitiveness both on the side of enterprises and on the side of economic policy of the state. The article examines the role of the state in increasing competitiveness, as well as the degree of impact of sanctions and coronavirus on competitiveness. The data are presented for entire 22-year period of surveys on competitiveness, but special attention is paid to the trends of 2020-2021.
