Childbirth is no literary genre. As usual, in the story narrated childbirth is a process completed at the entrance or exit of some new characters. In most cases, also maternity is a purely descriptive element. Based on the analysis of selected fragments of literary and artistic works, it is proposed to rethink childbirth as a biographical-relational event. In it, in terms of aesthetic, ethical, social and political, entangle geometric gures that assume vulnerability as a human condition, as a category to build a relationship with the Alterity.

In the context of medieval society, the situation of women and, more specically, the situation of women who want to be a writer, presents a series of features that make their situation, social as well as emotional or intellectual, a complex network of conicts, both internal and external, all related to the assumption of some male role: the desire for self-affirmation, for being an authorial self, for having the property of his thoughts, for example. Understanding and deepening in these aspects becomes a task, in many moments, exciting. This article reviews those aspects contained in the letter entitled Admiraçion Operum Dey, by Teresa de Cartagena, which are related to the feminine universe. That is, those elements that become essential to inquire into the work written by a nun in a medieval, patriarchal and eminently misogynist context in which her status as (1) woman, (2)judeoconversa and (3) deaf provide her with a triple marginalization. These three elements, above all, are those that shape the worldview of Teresa of Cartagena in which self-consolation becomes a means of survival in her first work, Arboleda de los enfermos and in a more brutal tone, she made a true allegation to favor the right of women to access to culture and, more specically, to writing, in her second work that we analyze in this paper.

The analysis of the correspondence between two sixteenth/seventeenth century female aristocrats —Luisa de Carvajal, Magdalena de San Jerónimo— enables us to reect on the value of relics and their relevance in the Spanish Baroque Counter-Reformation. We correlate Luisa's yearning for martyrdom as well as her mystical and religious exaltation with some of Magdalena's commitments at the Penitents House, at the Flemish Court, and as founder of the prison for prostitutes and female delinquents known as the Casa de la Galera, and, therefore, with dierent bodies and semiotics: the ill body of men, that polluting of 'working girls'; the bodies of virgins, of prostitutes, of actresses. These relate to dierent public spaces: the brothel, the theatre, the Magdalene asylum. And, in a very special manner, to the res publica and the Spanish Empire. All this based on the continuous background of Mary Magdalene's myth, a fundamental text that unites all the women considered here.

Breaking the social rol has, almost always, consequences. That is the case of Carole, a woman who has been hospitalized in a psychiatric institution in Gipuzkoa between 1949 and 1950. Carole was Belge and she highlighted explicitly the characteristics of Franco's regime. Based on a letter she wrote during her hospitalization and on her medical report, this article composes an image of the morality and the society in that time in the southern Euskal Herria. Furthermore, through an analysis of an individual case, not only silences and repression will surface but also the resistances.

Teresa Mañé Miravent (1865-1939), also known under the pseudonym of Soledad Gustavo, is one of the most important woman regarding the development of the Spanish anarchist school of thought. Her incisive pen, as well as her assiduous participation in anarchist parties and activities, made her an inuential theoretician in both national and international working press. In this article, I will analyse the epistolary relations that Teresa Mañé exchanged while searching for the defence of freedom and anarchist ideology in nineteenth-century Spain and the rst decades of the twentieth century.

This work focuses on the analysis of the linguistic differences between TV and Internet subtitling, specifically YouTube subtitling (which we call "amateur "). Spatio-temporal restrictions that apply to captioning reveal the impossibility of carrying out a literal transcript of what is said, since this transcript would not allow the user to view the image and to extract meaning from content in a such a short period of time. In this paper, we analyze the linguistic consequences of those restrictions and of the differences in the way of subtitling. The main contribution of this paper is to bring to light the need to dene new criteria for subtitling in order to improve the understanding of television programs.

Defining the natural language and its gradient phenomena force us to look for formal tools that can represent the bases of a grammar with degrees of grammaticality. The mathematical and formal models are often used in linguistics. And yet, fuzzy logic has not received all the attention it deserves as a tool to explain the natural language processing. Here, we show the theoretical bases that have led us to treat the natural language (NL) inputs gradually. The basis of fuzzy logic for NL are explained here as a tool capable of defining non-discrete values, therefore gradual or fuzzy. A Property Grammar will give the rules of the fuzzy grammar.

This research analyzes the sociolinguistics adequacy in advertisements. The analysis aims to observe how far advertising reects the covariation phenomena manifested in the different linguistic levels from the conjunction of certains social and contextual variables. The research aims, somehow, to make it clear that sociolinguistics adequacy in ads can increase the effectiveness of advertising communication. We present a qualitative study of a corpus formed by a total of 60 television commercials, selected taking into consideration age and gender of the speaker as the product or service publicized. On the basis of the results obtained, advertising communication reflects both the genderlect and agelect variation. Also, we have observed dierences in style and therefore advertising includes the diaphasic variation. However, we perceive the transmission of sociolinguistic stereotypes that encourage creation and difussion of certain sociocultural roles.

In the last decades, the Internet has become an information and communication network which reaches a wide audience and which has spread all over the world. Within this communicative context it is of paramount importance to know who hides behind a specific linguistic profile in computer-based communication. In order to establish the features of male and female genderlects, sociolinguistics has been based on oral interactions, but, this traditional classification of male and female language still valid, or should it be updated adapting to this new communication medium? The aim of this project has two sides. On the one hand, we have carried out an analysis just to detect if the traditional characterization of genderlects matches with the linguistic traits which are observed in computer-based communicative exchanges between men and women. On the other hand, we have tried to offer a genderlect characterization which could be useful concerning automatic gender detection tasks.
