In the context of medieval society, the situation of women and, more specically, the situation of women who want to be a writer, presents a series of features that make their situation, social as well as emotional or intellectual, a complex network of conicts, both internal and external, all related to the assumption of some male role: the desire for self-affirmation, for being an authorial self, for having the property of his thoughts, for example. Understanding and deepening in these aspects becomes a task, in many moments, exciting. This article reviews those aspects contained in the letter entitled Admiraçion Operum Dey, by Teresa de Cartagena, which are related to the feminine universe. That is, those elements that become essential to inquire into the work written by a nun in a medieval, patriarchal and eminently misogynist context in which her status as (1) woman, (2)judeoconversa and (3) deaf provide her with a triple marginalization. These three elements, above all, are those that shape the worldview of Teresa of Cartagena in which self-consolation becomes a means of survival in her first work, Arboleda de los enfermos and in a more brutal tone, she made a true allegation to favor the right of women to access to culture and, more specically, to writing, in her second work that we analyze in this paper.

The study of Maïssa Bey’s novel Surtout ne te retourne pas allows to examine how the Francophone novel represents an earthquake as a poetic, metaphorical and political shockwave. The novel is part of a literary tradition but also shows the singularity of the writing and the engagement of the Algerian novelist Maïssa Bey. It allows to examine the feminine agentivity in the context of the disaster camps in Algeria: from the ravaged space/country emerge the voices of women who enter into resistance to improvise, invent their lives and their identities. The earthquake allows them to free themselves, to take a subversive point of view at society and their status as women in an oppressive patriarchal society. The staged female characters arrogate to themselves the right to reread history and take their destiny back.

<p>The rise of ‘man in makeup’ trend in online platforms has brought male makeup artists to break down the gender stereotype and discrimination in beauty industry. Here, the research focused on a male makeup artist, James Charles, on his Instagram account, who brings the concept of ‘man in makeup’ to reject the transgender label. The research examined the way James Charles presents his gender concept, ‘man in makeup’ through his cultural practices on Instagram. The research shows that James Charles has failed in following the male role norms. However, this failure cannot put James Charles to crisis of masculinity. This happens because James Charles has negotiated the male role norms with the self feminizing. Thus, the feminine notion of makeup is not contradictory with his feminized male body, gestures, and identity. At the end, this research argues that ‘man in makeup’ gender concept has been accepted by the Instagram users.</p>

 Resumen La obligación de garantizar la equidad de género no es un asunto exclusivamente jurídico. Por el contrario, se trata de una necesidad social que le compete a todas las disciplinas. Las Ciencias de la Salud y el Derecho deben comprender y comprometerse con dicho mandato así uno de los principios (pro homine) de la nueva Ley Estatutaria de la Salud sea patriarcal, en tanto mantiene el lenguaje que otorga predominio a lo masculino sobre lo femenino. La novedad e importancia de este artículo radica en la reflexión sobre el carácter orientador que la mencionada Ley está llamada a cumplir en los próximos años y en los compromisos internacionales del Estado colombiano con la equidad de género. Sólo la comprensión general de que por principio “pro homine” debe entenderse como principio “pro persona”, evitará mantener factores discriminatorios en un sistema de salud en el que aún persisten exclusiones y que con las subreglas jurisprudenciales permitirá una aplicación a favor del derecho a la salud de todas las personas. Abstract The obligation to ensure gender equality is not a merely legal issue. On the contrary, it is a social need that is the responsibility of all disciplines. The health sciences and law need to understand and engage with such a mandate, so one of the new statutory law of health principles (pro homine) is patriarchal, as long as it maintains a male language over the feminine one. The novelty and importance of this article lies in the reflection on the guiding character that the mentioned law is called to meet in the coming years and in the international commitments of the Colombian State with gender equality. Only the general understanding that the principle "pro homine", which should be understood as the principle "pro person", will prevent discriminatory factors in a health system in which there are still exclusions, and with the help of the jurisprudence sub-rules, it will enable an application in favor of the right to health of all people.

Examina este trabajo la presencia y uso de textos bíblicos en las dos obras de Teresa de Cartagena, autora castellana del siglo XV, Arboleda de los enfermos y Admiración Operum Dei, e inscribe estos usos literarios del texto bíblico en el contexto de los círculos y las corrientes de renovación espiritual, especialmente femenina, desarrollados en la península ibérica entre fines del siglo XV y comienzos del XVI, análisis que revela la afinidad de la mencionada autora con tales corrientes y círculos.

The study of the first liberal Penal Codes (Spanish from 1822/1848/1850 and Portuguese from 1852) shows that the Spanish and the Portuguese woman share the same legal frame, but for a few differences. This frame preserves the feminine pattern of behaviour established by the Old Regime Courts, subject to man’s authority and to marriage as a guarantee of social and family order, but with a change: man’s honor resting upon the woman is honesty, not any longer privileged (married and honest) but imposed (home angel) and punished (dishonest woman). Between applying mercy or an exemplary treatment to a woman, liberal law chooses the last. Woman is not the plural category of the Old Regime any more, but the dual category angel/dishonest, which brings about her fragilitas. This leads to equality among women and approach to men in most offenses, but for the glaring inequality with regard to honor. An exception: the Portuguese wife, protected against procuring, has the right to take vengeance on his husband for her honor, whereas the Spanish wife does not have that right. Arboleda de los enfermos is a religious treaty written in the middle of 15th century by Teresa de Cartagena, a nun from Burgos, after her hearing loss. In her treaty, Teresa de Cartagena attemps to show to those who also suffer from an illnes a way to heal their souls. The text presents some characteristics of mystic Spanish literature, as it exposes the comprehension process of an inner reality in wich the soul needs to follow a crucial path of suffering. This paper analizes the symbolism in the treaty, from the Scholem and Lotman’s perspectives about the symbol as a vehicle of tradition and mystical experience, to later explain the relationship between symbols of the Christian and Jewish traditions presented on the text. Teresa de Cartagena could have known this second tradition due to the Jewish converso origins of her family, in wich her grandfather, the ex rabine Pablo de Santa María, and her uncle Alfonso de Cartagena were counted, both prominet humanist and educated in Hebrew tradition.

A luta das mulheres pela conquista de direitos, especialmente pelo direito civil e político ao voto, foi visível e teve nítido enfoque durante a denominada primeira onda do movimento feminista, que transcorreu pelos séculos XIX e XX. Muitos movimentos marcaram a reivindicação das mulheres pelo direito ao voto, em especial e como um dos mais marcantes, o movimento Sufragista. As Sufragistas, primeiras ativistas do feminismo no século XIX, passaram a ser conhecidas pela sociedade da época devido as suas fortes manifestações públicas em prol dos direitos políticos, com ênfase no direito ao voto. Esse cenário é retratado pelo filme As Sufragistas, estreado no ano de 2015, que relata a luta de mulheres pelo direito ao voto e o movimento sufragista liderado por Emmeline Pankhurst. O artigo problematiza o início da luta de gênero por direitos políticos, com ênfase nos estudos de Direito e Cinema. Dessa forma, a análise do resultado político na luta por direitos da primeira onda do movimento feminista pode ser exemplificado pelo filme As Sufragistas. O filme retrata as condições precárias da mulher no trabalho e sua submissão aos homens; mostra como o Direito e o Cinema podem relacionar-se com o intuito de explorar as realidades vivenciadas pelas mulheres em busca de seus direitos. Nesse sentido, o artigo objetiva, através da análise de cenas e linguagem do filme As Sufragistas, explorar a batalha das Sufragistas pela conquista do voto feminino e, consequentemente, demonstrar que, por meio do Cinema e através de suas imagens é possível retratar as realidades e, assim, as condições às quais as mulheres foram submetidas por longos anos. Feminismo.Abstract: Women’s struggle for rights, especially civil and political right to vote, had a clear focus during the first wave of the feminist movement that went through the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Many movements marked the women’s claim to the right to vote, in particular and one of the most striking, the Sufragist movement. Sufragists, the first activists of feminism in the nineteenth century, came to be known by the society of the time due to its strong public manifestations for political rights, especially the right to vote. This scenario is portrayed by the film Suffragette, released in the year 2015, which relates the struggle of women for the right to vote and the suffragist movement led by Emmeline Pankhurst. The purpose of this article is to analyze the beginning of the gender struggle for political rights, with emphasis on Law and Cinema studies. In this way, the analysis of the political outcome in the struggle for rights of the first wave of the feminist movement can be exemplified by the film Suffragette. The film portrays the precarious conditions of women at work and their submission to men; Shows how law and cinema relate to the purpose of exploring the realities experienced by women in search of their rights. In this sense, the present article aims, trought the analysis of scenes and language of the film Suffragette, to explore the battle of Sufragists by the conquest of the feminine vote and, consequently, demonstrate trought the Cinema and trought images it is possible to portray the realities and thus the conditions to which women were submitted.
