Hexakis-(4-aminophenoxy)-cyclotriphosphazene (PN-NH2) was synthesized through nucleophilic substitution of the chloride atoms of hexachlorocyclotriphosphazene (HCCP) and reduction of the nitro group, and its chemical structure was characterized. As a curing agents for commercial epoxy resin Diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A (DGEBA) PN-NH2 was compared with conventional curing agents 4,4-diaminodiphenylsulfone(DDS) and 4,4-diaminodiphenylmethane (DDM). The thermal properties and thermal degradation behaviors of these thermosetted resins were investigated by using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). TGA studies demonstrated that the thermal properties of the PN-NH2-containing cured epoxy resin were higher than those of others. The phosphorus-nitrogen containing curing agent can result in a great improvement of the flame retardance for their thermosetted epoxy resins.

Abstract In the present study, the influence of incorporating various amounts of hyperbranched polyester (HBPE) into thermosetting resin blends composed of cyanate ester (CE) and benzoxazine (BOZ) resins was investigated for their structural, morphological, mechanical, and thermal properties. The FTIR spectra revealed that the CE/BOZ resin had reacted with the functional groups of HBPE, and the SEM test confirmed the morphological changes from a smooth surface that was observed for the virgin CE/BOZ resin to a rough surface for the maximum HBPE content. Moreover, the mechanical and thermal properties were found to be pointedly enhanced as we increased the content of HBPE. These remarkable enhancements may be due to the chemical structure of the HBPE which could form a cross-linked structure through a strong hydrogen bonding with the CE/BOZ resin. As a result, a considerable amount of applied mechanical load can be absorbed, and in parallel, the thermal stability can also be improved. We believe that the HBPE can be a good toughener for the CE/BOZ resins that could possibly expand their range of applications in various industrial sectors.

AbstractIn this study, amaranth starch was extracted by high-impact wet milling and its structural and thermal properties and the effect of NaOH and SDS concentrations on extraction yield were evaluated. The best condition was 55 g of starch/100 g of amaranth, with a decrease from 2.5 to 3.5 kJ/g using different milling energies. The decrease in the protein content of the starch granule is due to an effect of the interaction between surfactant and alkali, preventing the destruction of granules. All starches presented a degree of crystallinity between 21 and 28%. The internal structural changes of the starch granule were monitored by attenuated total reflectance - Fourier-transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) in the region of 990 to 1060 cm−1. Spectra showed significant differences between the peaks at 1032 and 1005 cm−1, corresponding to the crystalline/amorphous region of the starch structure. Changes in viscosity profiles were observed between 0.302 and 1.163 Pa s.

Oxidative polymerization of 3-amino,2'-,(3')-nitrodiphenylazomethine was carried out in various ways. A possible mechanism for the polymerization of 3-amino,2'-,(3')- nitrodiphenylazomethine, where chain growth occurs as type N-C, is shown. It has been found that the yield of the polymer product is affected by the polymerization process and time. The chemical structure of the polymers obtained is established. The study of the thermal properties of polymers showed a low thermal stability and the process of destruction proceeds in two stages.

This study was undertaken to explore the effect of heating on gutta-percha, analyzing the occurrence of endothermic peaks corresponding to the transformation that occurs in the crystalline structure of the polymer during thermal manipulation. This study also seeked to determine the temperature at which these peaks occur, causing a transformation from the beta- to the alpha-form, and from the alpha- to the amorphous phase. Eight nonstandardized gutta-percha points commercially available in Brazil (Konne, Tanari, Endopoint, Odous, Dentsply 0.04, Dentsply 0.06, Dentsply TP, Dentsply FM) and pure gutta-percha (control) were analysed using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetry analysis (TGA). The transition temperatures were determined and analysed. With the exception of Dentsply 0.04 and Dentsply 0.06, the majority of the products showed thermal behaviour typical of beta-gutta-percha, with two endothermic peaks, exhibiting two crystalline transformations upon heating from ambient temperature to 130°. Upon cooling and reheating, few samples presented two endothermic peaks. It was concluded that heating dental gutta-percha to 130°C causes changes to its chemical structure which permanently alter its physical properties.
