Millimeter wave therapy (MWT), a non-invasive complementary therapeutic technique is claimed to possess analgesic properties. We reviewed the clinical studies describing the pain-relief effect of MWT. Medline-based search according to review criteria and evaluation of methodological quality of the retrieved studies was performed. Of 13 studies, 9 of them were randomized controlled trials (RCTs), only three studies yielded more than 3 points on the Oxford scale of methodological quality of RCTs. MWT was reported to be effective in the treatment of headache, arthritic, neuropathic and acute postoperative pain. The rapid onset of pain relief during MWT lasting hours to days after, remote to the site of exposure (acupuncture points), was the most characteristic feature in MWT application for pain relief. The most commonly used parameters of MWT were the MW frequencies between 30 and 70 GHz and power density up to 10 mW cm−2. The promising results from pilot case series studies and small-size RCTs for analgesic/hypoalgesic effects of MWT should be verified in large-scale RCTs on the effectiveness of this treatment method.

Cross-cultural adaptation and validation of the Impact Questionnaire of Urinary Incontinence (IIQ-7) and Urogenital Distress Inventory (UDI-6) - short scale - in the Brazilian population with multiple sclerosis. The IIQ-7 and UDI-6 were translated into Portuguese, called IIQ-7-BR and UDI-6-BR. The questionnaires were administered in 211 individuals selected randomly. Of these, 140 had MS according to McDonald criteria and 71 were included in the control group. In both questionnaires, the Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was above 0.7. The IIQ-7-BR showed 94.31% concordance between the evaluated studies and UDI-6-BR, 93.33%. Thus, the instruments of this study were presented according to the standards proposed by the Instrument Review Criteria, reliability, validity and sensitivity, maintaining the original scales characteristics.

Nepal lacks adequate data on the prevalence of sepsis and Possible Severe Bacterial Infection (PSBI) among neonates. Thus, this systematic review was designed to estimate the prevalence of neonatal sepsis and PSBI status in Nepal. We searched PubMed and Nepal Journal Online for relevant studies on PSBI and neonatal sepsis published from 2006 to 2016. The eligibility criteria included those studies done in Nepal, evaluating the prevalence of PSBI/neonatal sepsis with denominators as the population at risk that is either total live births or total cases evaluated. Altogether, four studies met the review criteria, out of which three were hospital-based and one community-based. There is a vast difference in prevalence rate between hospital-based (2-4%) and community-based (9%) studies. Two studies used haematological scoring system and blood culture to base their diagnosis; one used signs and symptoms for PSBI while the other did not mention the diagnostic criteria. This systematic review suggests that though neonatal sepsis poses a big problem, it lacks a significant number of related studies. There is a need to conduct a nationwide survey on the prevalence of sepsis and PSBI among neonates, which will help to develop health policy.
