HCl doped Polyaniline (PANI)/multi–walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) nanocomposites were first prepared by in–situ chemical polymerization of aniline monomers in the presence of MWCNTs with less structural defects, and then p–toluene sulfonic acid (TSA) doped PANI/MWCNT nanocomposites were obtained by a sequential doping–dedoping–redoping process. The morphology, microstructure, and thermal and electrochemical properties of the resulting nanocomposites were investigated by scanning electron microscopy, fournier infrared spectroscopy, thermal gravimetric analysis, and cyclic voltammetry, respectively. The effects of TSA as the secondary dopant on the microstructure and electrochemical properties were discussed. The results indicated that a significant improvement in the thermal stability could be achieved, while good electrochemical behavior could be remained.

The optical constants of Para-Toluene sulfonic acid-doped polyaniline (PANI), PANIchitosan composites, PANI-reduced graphene-oxide composites and a ternary composite comprising of PANI, chitosan and reduced graphene-oxide dispersed in diluted p-toluene sulfonic acid (PTSA) solution and N-Methyl-2-Pyrrolidone (NMP) solvent have been evaluated and compared. The optical constant values were extracted from the absorbance spectra of thin layers of the respective samples. The potential utilization of the materials as the active sensing materials of surface plasmon resonance biosensors has also been assessed in terms of the estimated value of the penetration depth through a dielectric medium. The results show a reasonable dependence of the optical constant parameters on the solvent type. Higher real part refractive index (n) and real part complex dielectric permittivity (ε’) values were observed for the samples prepared using PTSA solution, while higher optical conductivity values were observed for the NMP-based samples due to their relatively higher imaginary part refractive index (k) and imaginary part complex dielectric permittivity (ε″) values. In addition, NMP-based samples show improvement in terms of the penetration depth through a dielectric medium by around 9.5, 1.6, 4.4 and 2.9 times compared to PTSA-based samples for the PANI, PANI-chitosan, PANI-RGO and the ternary composites, respectively. Based on these, it is concluded that preparation of these materials using different dispersion solvents could produce materials of different optical properties. Thus, the variation of the dispersion solvent will allow the flexible utilization of the PANI and the composites for diverse applications.

Background: A series of novel substituted 2-mercaptoimidazoles was synthesised efficiently and in high yields using one-pot synthesis from m-hydroxyacetophenones. Methods: The structures of the newly synthesized compounds were established, their molecular activity was investigated against some bacteria and fungi were further validated using molecular docking study. Results: Reaction of o-hydroxyphenacylbromide (2) with substituted aniline and KSCN, in the presence of catalyst p-toluene sulfonic acid afforded 4(a-r) in good yield. The structure of compounds (4a-r) was confirmed by IR, NMR and MS. Conclusion: The compounds exhibited excellent antimicrobial potency against the tested microorganism.

A robust, facile, and solvent-free route for the three-component synthesis of 2H-indazolo[2,1-b]phthalazine-triones in the presence of a catalytic amount ofp-toluene sulfonic acid utilizing grinding has been developed. Short reaction time, simple operation, and high yields are the advantages of this protocol.
