Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengestimasi produk degradasi pigmen ekstrak kasar alga merah Kappaphycus alvarezii (Doty) Doty varian merah, coklat dan hijau yang terbentuk selama perlakuan iradiasi dan pemanasan, melalui perbedaan spektrum serapannya. Ketiga varian diekstraksi menggunakan 100% metanol. Uji fotostabilitas ekstrak pigmen dilakukan dengan iradiasi menggunakan lampu Volpi intralux 4100 pada intensitas cahaya 39300 lux, 56700 lux dan 76400 lux.  Lama waktu penyinaran 0, 5, 10, 15, dan 20 menit. Sedangkan uji termostabilitas  dilakukan pada suhu 25 dan 90 ° C selama 0, 3, 6 24, dan 48 jam. Pola spektra diukur pada panjang gelombang 300-800 nm sebelum dan sesudah perlakuan dengan spektrofotometer UV-Tampak Shimadzu 1700. Data dianalisis dengan SPINA Versi 3, untuk memperoleh intensitas maksimum dan perbedaan spektra serapan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa produk degradasi pigmen ekstrak kasar alga merah K. alvarezii dapat diidentifikasi melalui spektrum serapan dan hasil perbedaan spektra serapan. Isomer cis karotenoid, karotenoid tidak berwarna, dan feofitin a diestimasi sebagai produk degradasi yang terbentuk selama perlakuan iradiasi dengan intensitas cahaya 76400 lux dan perlakuan pemanasan pada suhu 90°C selama 48 jam. Penurunan intensitas warna larutan pigmen juga mengindikasikan terbentuknya produk degradasi selama perlakuan. Kata kunci: Kappaphycus alvarezii, perbedaan spektrum serapan, produk degradasi The aims of this study were to estimate the degradation products of crude pigment extracts from red, brown, and green varieties of red alga Kappaphycus alverezii (Doty) Doty that formed during irradiation and heating treatment from their difference absorption spectra. All three variants were extracted using 100% methanol. The photostability assay of crude pigment extracts was conducted by irradiating the crude pigment extracts with a day light lamp (Volpi, Intralux 4100) at 39300 lux, 56700 lux and 76400 lux light intensity during 0, 5, 10, 15, and 20 minutes treatment, whereas the thermostability assay was performed at 25 and 90 °C for 0, 3, 6 24, and 48 hours. The absorption spectra of the crude pigment extract before and after each treatment were monitored successively at 300-800 nm using MultiSpec 1501 UV-VIS spectrophotometer. Data were analyzed with spina Version 3, to obtain maximum intensity and the difference absorption spectra. The results showed that the  degradation products of crude pigment extracts from red alga K. alvarezii could be identified by absorption spectra and difference absorption spectra. Cis isomers carotenoids, colorless carotenoids, and feofitin-a were estimated as degradation product formed during the irradiation treatment with 76400 lux of light intensity and heating treatment at a temperature of 90 ° C for 48 hours. Decrease in the intensity of the color of pigment solution also indicates the formation of degradation products during treatment.Key words: Kappaphycus alvarezii, difference absorption spectra, degradation products

The effects of the abiotic inducers β-glucan, extracted from Shiitake (Lentinula edodes), BFIICaB® (Kappaphycus alvarezii) and BKPSGII® (K. alvarezii X Sargassum sp.) on tomato plants infected with Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici (FOL) were evaluated through the activity of enzymes related to the induction of resistance at 5 and 10 days after inoculation (DAI). Tomato plants (21 days old, after germination) were inoculated with the pathogen conidia suspension and sprayed with 0.3% aqueous solutions of the inducers. The activities of the enzymes β-1,3-glucanase, peroxidase and phenylalanine ammonia lyase (PAL) were evaluated in fresh tomato leaves collected at 5 and 10 DAI. In all treatments, peroxidase showed the highest enzymatic activity, followed by β-1,3-glucanase and PAL. Between the seaweeds, the inducers extracted from the red alga Kappaphycus alvarezii (BFIICaB®) promoted the highest enzymatic activity. The exception was BKPSGII® (K. alvarezii X Sargassum sp.) where the influence of Sargassum sp. resulted in higher peroxidase activity (4.48 Δab600 mg P−1 min−1) in the leaves, 10 DAI. Both the red seaweed K. alvarezii and the brown alga Sargassum sp. promoted activities of β-1,3-glucanase, peroxidase and PAL.

The commercially important red alga Kappaphycus alvarezii is widely cultivated along Tamil Nadu coast. Apart from farming, wild collection of seaweed is also being practiced by fishers for their livelihoods. The present study on economicsand constraints of farming and wild collection of seaweeds was undertaken in the Ramanathapuram District of Tamil Nadu, employing an expost-facto research design. The study found that the total cost of production for fabricating one bamboo raft(12 x 12 feet) was `1,050/-. The crop duration was 45 days and four to six crops were harvested in a year. The average yield was 200-260 kg per raft per crop. The price of harvested kappaphycus on wet and dry weight basis were `4 and `37.50 per kg respectively. Majority of seaweed farmers earned around `50,000/- to 1,00,000/- annually and the profit margin was 60%. The average gross revenue per trip per group of five members for wild collection of seaweed worked out to `6,700/- and the capital productivity was 0.30. It is interesting to note that about 20% of the respondents were those who left fishing and switched to farming and wild collection of seaweeds.

Abstract:Epiphytes are organisms that attach to other organisms to support their growth and development. One type of epiphytes that has a negative impact on the host is algae (macroalgae). This algae is a competing organism for cultivation algae (Kappaphycus alvarezii). This research was conducted From May to October 2017 in Gerupuk Bay, Central Lombok. The aim of the research is to find out the types of macroalgae epiphytes on macroalgae kappaphycus alvarezii. This research was conducted using exploratory methods by taking seaweed samples overgrown with epiphytes, the research data obtained were descriptive analisys. As supporting data, environmental parameters are measured including temperature, pH, salinity, DO, phosphate, and NH4. Based on the results of exploration found 13 species of epiphytic algae in kappaphycus alvarezi cultivation, namely: Chaetomorpha linum, Chaetomorpha linum, Cladophora dalmatica, Acanthophora spicifer, Batrachospermum sp, Callithamnion sp., Caulachantus ustulatus, Ceramium sp, Hypnea spinnosa, Hypnea spinella, Hypnea sp, Polysiphonia brodiaei , Spyridia filamentosa. The type of epiphytes found that grows in both cultivation methods and some others are found only in one method. Meanwhile, data on environmental parameters are in the optimal range for macroalgae growth.This data is expected to be used as a consideration for the cultivateddevelopment in the Gerupuk Bay cultivation center. Keywords : Macroalgae, Epiphytes, Aquaculture,  Kappaphycus alvarezii
