This article aims to explore the perceptions of banana farms managers towards environmental sustainability practices through the impact of innovation, adoption of information systems, and training employees through a case study in the province of El Oro (Ecuador). Furthermore, the paper assesses how farmers’ perceptions could guide public policy incentives. PLS-Structural Equation Modeling are used as the framework by which the constructs is represented within the model. The model explained 59% of the environmental sustainability practices of Ecuadorian banana farms. The results indicate that environmental sustainability practices were positively influenced mainly by training employees, innovation, and adoption of information systems. Additionally, both the adoption of information systems and training employees indirectly influenced sustainable practices through innovation as a mediator. We may conclude that in the Ecuadorian banana farms, changes in environmental practices are derived from innovation strategies as an axis of development of useful information and training employees in public policies.

Purpose Top management support (TMS) is considered as a critical factor for the success of information systems (ISs) projects. The literature shows that TMS has a positive impact on achieving success in ISs’ projects in different aspects. However, the enabling factors for TMS in complex ISs’ projects have barely been tested, something which this study aims to rectify. Design/methodology/approach This study has designed a research model based on structural equation modelling (SEM) with the intention of analysing the perception of IS end users regarding the effect on TMS of the following factors: technological complexity and training and organizational communication. The application of the study has focused on an enterprise resource planning–open source software (ERP-OSS) environment. Findings The findings show how end users have a perception that organizational communication and training have a positive relation with TMS. Based on these findings, the authors have suggested several practical considerations. Research limitations/implications There are two limitations to this study. First, this study is based on the perception of complex IS/IT users. It would be interesting to add the perception of top managers to provide more solid findings. The second limitation is that this study has not suggested any additional potential factors which could affect TMS. Practical implications First, this article provides a study of the key role of TMS when an organization needs to implement a complex IS/IT. Second, organizations must develop mechanisms for increasing training and communication relating to the new complex IS/IT projects. Finally, the complexity of an IS/IT project does not constitute an enabling factor incentivizing TMS and should therefore not be a determining factor in increasing TMS within an organization selecting an IS/IT. Originality/value This study contributes to advancing theory in the field of TMS in information systems projects.

This study aims to examine the influence of internal control, personal technical skills, education programs and training on the performance of accounting information systems. The population in this study is the sub-section of administration in the Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs in the Regency / City in Banten province with the research sample is the Head of Sub division of administration and application operator employees. The sampling method used is purposive sampling. The data in this study was obtained by distributing questionnaires directly to the respondents. Data in this research is analyzed by strcutural equation modeling (SEM) method, with Partial Least Square (PLS) approach. The results of this study indicate that internal control has a significant positive effect on the performance of accounting information systems, the ability of personal techniques has no significant effect on the performance of accounting information systems. While education and training programs have a significant positive effect on the performance of accounting information system.

The number and severity of attacks on computer and information systems in the last two decades has steadily risen and mandates the use of security policies by organizations to protect digital as well as physical assets. Although the adoption and implementation of such policies still falls far short, progress is being made. Issues of management commitment, flexibility, structural informality, training, and compliance are among the obstacles that currently hinder greater and more comprehensive coverage for businesses. As security awareness and security-conscious cultures continue to grow, it is likely that research into better methodologies will increase with concomitant efficiency of security policy creation and implementation. However, attacks are becoming increasingly more sophisticated. While the human element is often the weakest link in security, much can be done to mitigate this problem provided security policies are kept focused and properly disseminated, and training and enforcement are applied.

The success of implementing Enterprise Information System (EIS) depends on exploring and improving the EIS software, and EIS software training. However, the synthesis of the EIS implementation approach has not been investigated. In this chapter, the authors propose an integrated research and training approach for students and employees about enterprise information systems (EIS) that are encountered in an organization. Our integrated approach follows the different stages of a typical EIS project from inception to completion. These stages, as identified, are modeling, planning, simulation, transaction, integration, and control. This ensures that an employee who is trained by this plan has an acquaintance with the typical information systems in an organization. Further, for training and research purposes the authors developed prototype information systems that emulate the ones usually found in organizations. This ensures the EIS software logic is consistent with the business logic. This chapter also discuss some of the case studies conducted with the prototype systems.

The entrance of interactive multimedia systems into the arena of education and training has meant that in only a couple of years, a number of multimedia case studies for educational and training purposes in the Management of Information Systems area have emerged, and the tendency seems to be increasing. Use of such Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) is often claimed to be both valuable and effective for conveying the intended learning. However, because of the novelty of this area, very little is written about the role that a multimedia case study can play and how to apply such cases in a learning environment. Through the BUSINES-LINC project, sponsored by the European Commission, eighteen multimedia cases have been developed, with the objective to support innovative business solutions, especially in the e-commerce area.1 The research study presented in this paper is currently rigorously investigating possible learning scenarios for three Italian and three Danish cases through the collection of qualitative and quantitative empirical data. Our objective is to gain experience in and knowledge about how the chosen learning objectives from a multimedia case are best transferred to the users. The results of the research study will guide instructors and developers of different types of multimedia cases to better contemplate their learning objectives and course structure according to their target group. The paper first presents a short introduction to the field and the theoretical foundation of the research study. Then the methodological aspects are described, and finally, our current experiences and preliminary results are conveyed, together with a short overview of the issues, which we are currently investigating further by means of our empirical material.

Abstract Agile development methodologies (ADM) have become a widely implemented project management approach in Information Systems (IS). Yet, along with its growing popularity, the amount of concerns raised in regard to human related challenges caused by applying ADM are rapidly increasing. Nevertheless, the extant scholarly literature has neglected to identify the primary origins and reasons of these challenges. The purpose of this study is therefore to examine if these human related challenges are related to a lack of Emotional Intelligence (EI) by means of a quantitative approach. From a sample of 194 agile practitioners, EI was found to be significantly correlated to human related challenges in agile teams in terms of anxiety, motivation, mutual trust and communication competence. Hence, these findings offer important new knowledge for IS-scholars, project managers and human resource practitioners, about the vital role of EI for staffing and training of agile managed IS-projects.

This is the application of Informatics and Information Technologies in the environment and allied subjects. There are universities and academic bodies offering Environmental Informatics academic programs mainly from the environment and allied departments and units. Though, the field is a combination of both the areas and thus can be offered in Informatics or allied departments or bodies. As far as Informatics related branches are concerned important are IT, Information Systems, Information Management, Computer Sciences, etc. And in all these departments or units Environmental Informatics can be started as a Major or Specialization with proper educational policies. iSchools is an international consortium and body dedicated to combining all information related institutes, departments and programs under one roof with a focus on technologies for the societies and different sectors. Thus, the field of Environmental Informatics can be started easily in the iSchools. Furthermore, in recent past iSchools considered as the academic units offering information or IT related programs irrespective of their affiliation to the iSchools Organization, United States. This is maybe considered as a policy paper for the environmentalist, educationalist, IT educators to think about the potentialities of Environmental Informatics in Informatics or IT or simply iSchools related departments, programs, etc.
