Abstract Agile development methodologies (ADM) have become a widely implemented project management approach in Information Systems (IS). Yet, along with its growing popularity, the amount of concerns raised in regard to human related challenges caused by applying ADM are rapidly increasing. Nevertheless, the extant scholarly literature has neglected to identify the primary origins and reasons of these challenges. The purpose of this study is therefore to examine if these human related challenges are related to a lack of Emotional Intelligence (EI) by means of a quantitative approach. From a sample of 194 agile practitioners, EI was found to be significantly correlated to human related challenges in agile teams in terms of anxiety, motivation, mutual trust and communication competence. Hence, these findings offer important new knowledge for IS-scholars, project managers and human resource practitioners, about the vital role of EI for staffing and training of agile managed IS-projects.

This article reports findings from a survey of officials from various California state agencies and a series of interviews and focus groups with female youth and professionals serving this population. The study examined types of services provided, program barriers, and facilitation of change. The findings were used to make gender-specific policy and program recommendations. The authors found that meeting the needs of girls and young women requires specialized staffing and training, particularly in terms of relationship and communication skills, gender differences in delinquency, substance abuse education, the role of abuse, developmental stages of female adolescence, and available programs and appropriate placements and limitations. Effective programming for girls and women should be shaped by and tailored to their real-world situations and problems. In order to do this, a theoretical approach to treatment that is gender-sensitive and that addresses the realities of girls' lives must be developed.

Research and development (R&D) and innovations derived from R&D have been argued to be the engine of economic growth for hundreds of years. With supporting data, the paper establishes the vital role of innovation in the value chain and sustainable growth of economies. In order to convert these strategies into the tangible outcome, we need right tools, skills, and funding. Tools are provided by research methodologies underpinned by the application of project management principles. Skills come from higher education and training in science, engineering, and technology. The sources of funding are mainly from the governments and private industries where the latter provides the major share. To generate additional funding, the author argues that governments should offer a tax break to multinational companies for additional investment in R&D above the threshold of R&D intensity. For the ‘post- Brexit’ United Kingdom a new R&D strategy is of particular importance when the supply of the EU research money will discontinue.

Software companies are now using Distributed Agile Development (DAD) in order to create high quality solutions, which aligns with the business priorities of lesser time and cost. Although, DAD is beneficial, there are significant risks involved in such projects. In order to minimize the adverse effect of risks on DAD projects, it is imperative to understand, how the risks impact the project performance goals including ‘Time’, ‘Cost’ and ‘Quality’. In this paper we present a goal driven approach for managing risks in DAD projects. This approach of risk management will enable project managers to identify the most important risks with respect to the goal to be achieved and focus on managing those risks first. The study shows that if ‘Time’ is a considered goal for a DAD project, the most important risks that would need consideration are related to requirement management, architecture changes and coordination issues between stakeholders. Similarly, if ‘Quality’ is the primary performance goal in a DAD project, it would be necessary to first deal with risks related to internal and external communication in the organization, team collaboration and requirement documentation availability. The awareness of top ranking risk factors that impact a particular project goal will assist the projects managers to control the risks in a way that the desired project goals can be achieved.

Anecdotal evidence suggests that throughout project environments there are inadequate induction and training programs for project teams. Resultant issues include poor scope of works and a lack of communication for both project teams and project managers. This research is designed to evaluate why these problems occur and provide direction as to how these can be minimized. The case studies selected for this research have noted failures or issues in relation to project teams providing a service to major clients. The researchers discovered that there was a significant lack of management support for such a program, which cascaded into other areas of concern such as inadequate training, lack of internal processes, and a client lack of confidence to deliver.

GIS occupies a prominent place in the geographical arena. Has helped technical development in the field of cartography, one of those is to organize in the representation of natural and human geographical phenomena and to clarify the spatial relationships between those phenomena in a template A beautiful artistic and technical concept and style that is easy to understand. In some sources, this type of map is called statistical maps Due to the nature of the data and the quantitative methods that cartography depends on in its production. This study deals with the statistical data of the population in Khamis Mushait, and it was represented in some considerations on four maps This study was followed in its presentation and analysis of the four approaches (critical, analytical, experimental and applied). The study presented the definition of quantitative maps, their importance, the foundations of their classification, their types, the foundations of their construction and the methods of representation Al Cartography that you use, as the study dealt with quantitative maps in geographic information systems, and reviewed the most important The programs available for producing electronic maps are the most suitable and widely used types of representation symbols for representing geographical data Phenomena in every map. The study presented the applied steps used in producing quantitative maps in geographic information systems on population maps in Khamis Mushait governorate. The study also dealt with an inventory of the contents of the maps, their evaluation, analysis and classification in descending order according to the statistical data made available to the researcher. The problem of the study emerged in the lack of awareness of the vital role of geographic information systems and their various programs in producing maps Quantitative, and some reluctance to use and activate methods of location analysis on GIS maps and its various sources in the representation of phenomena on quantitative maps. The study found the importance of quantitative maps in geographic information systems and their high capabilities in producing and dealing with maps, the variation in their fields of display and the ease of application despite the lack of a number of graphical tools that can be applied in traditional methods and the need to link them, the limited use of GIS programs despite their cognitive importance and role. In building awareness of the place and the possibility of expanding its use, in addition to the need for the user and recipient of the map to have high skill and cognitive awareness sufficient to read and correctly interpret the components of the treasure and simulate reality. The study concluded with the results and recommendations.

Information technologies (IT) and information systems (IS) are the backbone of any developed business, and organizations without them cannot compete. In recent decades, many best practices standards, and guides have been made available to project managers and organizations aimed to improve project management. Unfortunately, IS projects continue to show a poor track record, and problems related to project management performance persists. Risk management has a vital role in this context since it can increase the likelihood and impact of positive events, and decrease the likelihood and impact of adverse events in the project. This article presents the results of an international web-based survey, studying if risk management processes are being implemented consistently in IS project management. The obtained results show low levels of risk management processes implementation and reinforce the idea that “it can be risky not to do risk management,” demanding more research in this area.

Project managers have played a vital role in sustainable construction projects by integrating the concept of sustainability into their practices. The role of project manager is important in all phases of sustainable construction projects but especially in the pre-construction phase when the greatest challenges that require their involvement occur. This requires project managers to have effective leadership skills to think a project through and remain focused on the end goal. Thus, the aim of this paper is to identify the project manager’s leadership skills in the pre-construction phase of sustainable construction projects. A key significant contribution of this paper is the literature review of journals and books on project manager’s leadership skills when engaged in sustainable construction projects. The overall intent is to highlight and identify the leadership skills of project managers in the pre-construction phase of sustainable construction projects so that the values and benefits of these skills can be adapted in current practices to successfully deliver such projects.

Purpose Training plays a vital role in the success of an organization as it provides the employees an opportunity to improve their competencies. The purpose of this paper is to examine the mediating effects of motivation to transfer between self-efficacy, training retention and transfer of training. Design/methodology/approach Research hypotheses were tested using quantitative research technique. The data were collected through self-administered questionnaire from 300 employees working in the banking sector of twin cities (Rawalpindi and Islamabad), of Pakistan. In total, 215 questionnaires were finally used for analysis. Findings The findings of this study reveal that motivation to transfer mediates the relationship between self-efficacy, training retention and transfer of training. Practical implications Although previous studies have tested the impact of self-efficacy and training retention on the transfer of training, but the mechanism through which self-efficacy and retention influence transfer of training remained underexplored. Knowing the role of self-efficacy and training retention as the antecedents of motivation to transfer can help the training managers to design an effective and efficient training plan. Originality/value This study will contribute to the existing body of knowledge especially in the Pakistani context by testing the role of trainee’s characteristics in transfer of training. Also, this study has empirically tested the mediating role of motivation to transfer between trainee’s characteristics (self-efficacy and retention) and transfer of training which has not been tested before.
