New immunolocalization data put the role of the lens MP26 (MIP) protein in a new perspective. During maturation of lens fibre cells, MIP is found to associate specifically with two structures, gap junctions and cell interlocking processes (known as ball and socket domains). It is significant that the zone in which these associations are most striking is discrete, coinciding with the zone of rapidly enlarging junctional plaques and newly forming ball and socket domains. Observation of domain-specific interactions of MIP with forming gap junctions and ball and socket domains suggests that MIP may be involved in the formation of close membrane appositions. Furthermore, previous ambiguities in the literature over the presence of MIP in gap junctions are clarified by the knowledge that, in situ, MIP associates strongly with gap junctions for only a brief period (with less than about 5% of all lens gap junctions at any one time) during the assembly of junctional plaques.

Blindness results due to numerous causes, Cataract is one of them , it is also major cause of blindness in tropical and developing countries all over the world due to direct effect on eye lens.      In view of ayurved literature Kaphaja timira and kaphaja kacha is a dreadful disease of eye lens mentioned in drishtigat roga vidyaniya addhyay .     The disease shows gradual –progressive decrease in vision. Ayurved literature have recorded single drug and compound formulation for treatment of Timir, Kacha (Imm.cat.) as Chakshushya or Netrya (sight ,vision improving) so that Palasha a Chakshushya drug in the form of  arka, which is kaphahara is taken for the treatment of same and results are noted according to CRF and improvement in visual acuity and disappearance of symptoms are statistically analyzed. Results are significant and no side effects of arka are seen.

Aquaporin 0 (AQP0) is a transmembrane protein specific to the eye lens, involved as a water carrier across the lipid membranes. We propose here a new method based on GUV spreading to measure the water permeability of membrane and single functional water pore. We also demonstrate that truncated AQP0 do not conduct water.
