Centralized management and sharing of manufacturing resources is one of the important functions of cloud manufacturing platform. There are many kinds of manufacturing resources, centralized management, optimized scheduling, quick searching for various manufacturing resources become important issues in a cloud manufacturing platform. This paper presents a resource management model based on metadata to realize the access and unified management of the hardware resources, software resources and knowledge resources. Two management approaches respectively for static and dynamic resource data are introduced to realize resource state monitoring and real-time information collecting. On this basis, the relationship between static and dynamic data is determined and service-oriented of resources is realized.

The collaborative design and manufacturing is applied in the aircraft industry. This paper introduces the collaborative design and manufacturing mode in aircraft industry and presents its structural framework. The data is managed in the structure of BOM and there are two ways to share the data between the suppliers. The collaborative design and manufacturing process reflects the concept of concurrent engineering. The collaborative design and manufacturing system has been applied in the project of C919 which could sharply shorten the research cycle and reduce the product cost.

This paper introduces a new collaborative approach to construction of large scale service oriented systems supporting distributed reasoning. In particular, we assume systems in which complex situation assessment is carried out through composition of heterogeneous services, each specialized for a particular type of analysis. Different services are composed automatically by using service discovery and negotiation. One of the major challenges in such settings is efficient definition of a large number of different types of services. The presented solution supports efficient definition of services by using a combination of light weight service ontologies, efficient construction procedures and tools. In particular, machine-understandable descriptions of heterogeneous services with well defined syntax and semantics can be created by multiple designers, without complex coordination of collaborative design processes and without any knowledge of formal ontologies.

Cloud-based manufacturing is a computing and service-oriented model developed from existing advanced manufacturing models and enterprise technologies with the support of cloud computing, IOT, and virtualization. In this chapter, various definitions of cloud manufacturing are discussed. New service models other than the existing cloud computing service models are being discussed elaborately. Cloud-based design manufacturing is also being discussed. A comparison of cloud manufacturing and cloud-based design manufacturing is elaborately discussed. Key technologies and challenges in cloud manufacturing are highlighted.

The recent advance in information technologies has the potential to greatly enhance product development, and to make distributed designers, engineers, manufacturers and customers work together over networks. This paper reviews related work on service-oriented architecture, distributed infrastructure and highlights the need to integrate service-oriented architecture technologies for meaningful and interactive collaborative design processes. This paper presents a service-oriented architecture implemented by web services for collaborative design. The collaborative workspace is presented to facilitate the design participants’ collaboration. The proposed architecture is applicable to different requirements of design participants and enhances design interaction during the product realization process.
