We present the multi-physical analysis of the induction-corrosion process undergone by a buried pipe subject to electromagnetic induction from a nearby High Voltage Transmission Line (HVTL). The scenario analyzed models a typical situation found in Colombia by using realistic characteristics of the pipe, the HVTL, and environmental parameters such as soil resistivity. The results presented provide a quantitative view of the corrosion process and constitute a useful tool for the analysis and design of the increasingly common situation of pipelines running near HVTLs.

The designing principles and methods of mechatronics have been expounded in some paper,1-3) which include, 1) the designing principles of device and product (i.e. D&P) system, 2) the designing principles of information flow, 3) the designing principles of establishing a unified physical model. This paper focuses on the designing principles and methods of mechatronic D&P system. There are four principles, 1) The function analysis of the D&P, 2) the realization of various functional blocks and determination of feasible designing plans, 3) comprehensive evaluation of various plans and optimization of designs, 4) the physical analysis and design of the D&P system.

This paper performs technical, economic and environmental feasibility analyses of two different solar cogeneration plants, consisting of a solar system (a parabolic trough collector field coupled with thermal energy storage), an Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC), and mechanical chillers, that should cover the electrical and cooling demands of a commercial center located in Zaragoza (Spain). System A is hybridized with an auxiliary biomass boiler that complements the solar system’s thermal production, providing a constant heat supply to the ORC, which operates at full load during the operating hours of the solar system. In contrast, system B is not hybridized with biomass, so the ORC is fully driven by the solar system, operating at partial load according to the solar resource availability. Both systems are connected to the electrical grid, allowing electricity purchases and sales when needed. The design procedure involves the sizing of the equipment as well as the modelling of the hourly behavior of each system throughout the year. The physical analysis is complemented by an economic assessment, which considers investment and variable costs, as well as an estimate of the significant environmental benefits of the proposed plants. The solar plants are compared to a conventional system in which all the electrical consumption is covered with electricity purchased from the grid. The costs of the electricity produced by systems A and B are estimated at 0.2030 EUR/kWh and 0.1458 EUR/kWh, which are about 49% and 7% higher than the electricity purchase price in Spain (0.1363 EUR/kWh). These results indicate that while none of the solar plants are presently competitive with the conventional system, system B (without biomass hybridization) is actually closer to economic feasibility in the short and medium term than system A (with biomass hybridization).

Abstract This paper describes and shows some anticipated application examples for an integrated logical/physical analysis environment that utilizes the public-domain OpenAccess database as a key infrastructure element. Using an electronic design automation (EDA) database makes it possible to enrich the failure analysis and debug environment with useful EDA-type utilities and applications. The article introduces the industry-standard OpenAccess data base and illustrates how this database can be used for better integration of a more comprehensive postsilicon debug, diagnostics, and characterization environment. It provides a summary of OpenAccess and highlights the possible role for OpenAccess/Unified Data Model as a complementary technology that captures the more static information about a product's design, design analysis, and design intent information. An initial integrated logical/physical analysis environment for logic diagnostics has been established for prototyping purposes. The article also presents examples of logical/physical analysis: signal interaction analysis and probing and circuit edit.

AbstractAn object-oriented medical database management system is presented for a typical cardiologic center, facilitating epidemiological trials. Object-oriented analysis and design were used for the system design, offering advantages for the integrity and extendibility of medical information systems. The system was developed using object-oriented design and programming methodology, the C++ language and the Borland Paradox Relational Data Base Management System on an MS-Windows NT environment. Particular attention was paid to system compatibility, portability, the ease of use, and the suitable design of the patient record so as to support the decisions of medical personnel in cardiovascular centers. The system was designed to accept complex, heterogeneous, distributed data in various formats and from different kinds of examinations such as Holter, Doppler and electrocardiography.

PT. Putera Bara Mitra used open mining system for mining operation, Yet the completion of study on the end wall slope stability that  undertaken by geotechnical PT. Putera Bara Mitra in Northwest Pit and the occured a failure in the low wall on the 1st June 2012 led to the need for analysis and design the overall slope at the mine site. To analyze and design the overall slope, used value of the recommended minimum safety. The value was based on company for single slope SF ≥ 1.2 and SF ≥ 1.3 for overall slope. The calculation used Bichop method with the help of software slide v 5.0. Geometry improvements was done at the low slopes that originally single wall with a 30 m bench height and a slope 70° with SF = 0.781, into 4 levels with SF = 1.305. The analysis explained the factors that affect the stability of the low wall included the mining slope geometry, unfavorable drainase system, material stockpiles and seismicity factors. It was necessary to do prevention efforts to maintain the stability of the slope included the redesign to slope geometry, handling surface and subsurface water in a way to control slopes draining groundwater, vegetation stabilization using and monitoring slope using Total Station with Prism and Crackmeter to determine the movement of cracks visible on the surface.
