This chapter examines Web services in China. More specifically, it examines the state-of-the-art of China's Web services in terms of cloud services, mobile services, and social networking services through exploring several leading Web service providers in the ICT industry, including Alibaba, Tencent, China Mobile, and Huawei. This research reveals that the Chinese culture has played an important role in the success of China's Web services. The trade-off ideology and communication conventions from Chinese traditional culture, as well as Mao Zedong thought, greatly influenced the development of China's Web services. The findings of this chapter might facilitate the research and development of Web services and better understanding of the growth in China's ICT industry, as well as future trends.

Semantic Web service discovery provides high retrieval accuracy. However, it imposes an implicit constraint to service clients that the clients must express their queries with the same domain ontologies as used by the service providers. Fulfilling this criterion is very tedious. Hence, a WordNet (general ontology)-based similarity model is proposed for service discovery, and its accuracy is enhanced to a level comparable to the accuracy of computing similarity using service specific ontologies. This is done by optimizing similarity threshold, which refers to a minimum similarity that is required to decide whether a given pair of services is similar or not. The proposed model is implemented and results are presented. The approach warrants clients to express their queries without specifying any ontology and alleviates the problem of maintaining complex domain ontologies. Moreover, the computation time of WordNet-based model is very low when compared to specific ontology-based model.

Traditionally, network Service Providers specify Service Level Agreements (SLAs) to guarantee service availability and performance to their customers. However, these SLAs are rather static and span a single provider domain. Thus, they are not applicable to a multi–domain environment. In this paper, the authors present a framework for automatic creation and management of SLAs in a multi-domain environment. The framework is based on Service Oriented Computing (SOC) and contains a collection of web service calls and modules that allow for the automatic creation, configuration, and delivery of an end-to-end SLA, created from the merging of the per-domain SLAs. This paper also presents a monitoring procedure to monitor the QoS guarantees stipulated in the SLA. The SLA establishment and monitoring procedures are tested through a Grid application scenario targeted to perform remote control and monitoring of instrument elements distributed across the Grid.

Web service is becoming an important area of business processing and research for enterprise systems. Various Web service providers currently offer diverse computing services ranging from entertainment, finance, and health care to real-time application. With the widespread proliferation of Web Services, not only delivering secure services has become a critical challenge for the service providers, but users face constant challenges in selecting the appropriate Web services for their enterprise application systems. Security has become an important issue for information systems (IS) managers for a secure integration of Web services with their enterprise systems. Security is one of the determining factors in selecting appropriate Web services. The need for run-time composition of enterprise systems with third-party Web services requires a careful selection process of Web services with security assurances consistent with the enterprise business goal. Selection of appropriate Web services with required security assurances is essentially a problem of choice among several alternative services available in the market. The IS managers have little control of the actual security behavior of the third-party Web services, however, they can control the selection of right services which could likely comply their security requirements. Selecting third-party Web services arbitrarily over the Internet is critical as well as risky.

Service oriented architecture has revolutionized the way a traditional business process is executed. The success of this architecture is Indue to the composition of multiple heterogeneous services at runtime. Web service composition is a mechanism where several web services are combined at runtime to build a complex application for a user. It is one of the most sought after processes in the context of semantic web. But, composition of web services at runtime is a difficult task owing to the availability of multiple service providers offering the same functionality. The process if exasperated by due conflicting preferences of a service consumer. In this paper, the authors address the issue of selecting a service based on Quality of Service (QoS) attributes. They utilize concepts customized from physics to create an environment that facilitates the selection of a best service from the set of similar services. The technique not only facilitates the selection of the service with the best QoS attributes, but distributes the load among expeditiously. Here in this paper, the authors concentrate on minimizing and equitably balancing the waiting time for a user. They conduct in silico experiments on multiple workflows to demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed technique to balance load efficiently among similar service offerings.

Web service composition is a method of developing a new web service from an existing one based on business goals. Web services selected for composition should provide accurate operational results and reliable applications. However, most alternative service providers have not yet fulfilled users’ needs in terms of services and processes. Service providers, in fact, have focused on enhancing nonfunctional attributes, such as efficiencies of time, cost, and availability, which still face limitations. Furthermore, it remains advantageous to compose services and suitably plan them around business plans. Thus, this study introduces hybrid testing using a combination of the functional and nonfunctional testing approaches. The former was used to design a test case through the equivalence class partitioning technique, and the latter was used to select suitable services for the test results. We find defects and appropriate solutions for combining services based on business requirements. The mutation-based harmony search (MBHS) algorithm is proposed to select web services and to compose with minimum defects. The results of this study reveal that MBHS can support a combination of various services more efficiently and dramatically than other metaheuristic methodologies. Additionally, it helps find appropriate solutions to compose services based on business plans.

Purpose The success of web services involved the adoption of this technology by different service providers through the web, which increased the number of web services, as a result making their discovery a tedious task. The UDDI standard has been proposed for web service publication and discovery. However, it lacks sufficient semantic description in the content of web services, which makes it difficult to find and compose suitable web services during the analysis, search, and matching processes. In addition, few works on semantic web services discovery take into account the user’s profile. The purpose of this paper is to optimize the web services discovery by reducing the search space and increasing the number of relevant services. Design/methodology/approach The authors propose a new approach for the semantic web services discovery based on the mobile agent, user profile and metadata catalog. In the approach, each user can be described by a profile which is represented in two dimensions: personal dimension and preferences dimension. The description of web service is based on two levels: metadata catalog and WSDL. Findings First, the semantic web services discovery reduces the number of relevant services through the application of matching algorithm “semantic match”. The result of this first matching restricts the search space at the level of UDDI registry, which allows the users to have good results for the “functional match”. Second, the use of mobile agents as a communication entity reduces the traffic on the network and the quantity of exchanged information. Finally, the integration of user profile in the service discovery process facilitates the expression of the user needs and makes intelligible the selected service. Originality/value To the best knowledge of the authors, this is the first attempt at implementing the mobile agent technology with the semantic web service technology.

With the rapid development of Web services technology, more and more Web services emerged in the network. Service consumer attached importance to the functional properties of services, also more and more emphasis on non-functional properties, namely Quality of Service. The Ultimate goal is meet consumer the demand of QoS. Therefore, service providers paid more and more attention to quality of services to meets the needs of users. This takes into account the options to meet the functional requirements and the QoS requirements, and designed a Web service selection framework. At the same time, QoS attributes can be added or deleted the number, so it is an extendible framework. The results show that the framework could select the appropriate service for users.

In the present study, the descriptive research design has been administered. Since this research describes the characteristics of the marketers in e-marketing, it is concerned with descriptive in nature. Meanwhile, this study analyze the e-marketing behavior and its antecedents, e-services quality, service failure in e-marketing, its relationship with the profile of the marketers, it seems to be diagnostic in nature. In total, 535 marketers was identified by popular web service providers namely Pronet, Satyam, Airtel and BSNL. Hence the present study has made an attempt to fill up the research gap with the help of proposed research model.
