In the event of fire, how quickly occupants can hear, see, and/or smell the fire and then exit the building are important for reducing the number of potential casualties. After a person or an automatic fire-detection system detects a fire, an installed emergency alarm system is used to alert building occupants about the fire. The emergency alarm system plays an important role in alerting the occupants to the fire by emitting a high-pitched sound when the fire is initially detected. Although bells and electronic sirens can both be used in fire-alarm systems, usually only bells are used in most commercial fire alarms except for a few fire extinguishers. Recently, however, the development of circuit integration technology and subsequent competitive pricing and improved performance have fostered an environment favorable for the widespread application of electronic sirens. However, because electronic sirens that emit various sounds will likely confuse building occupants used to hearing familiar-sounding conventional fire-alarm bells, electronic sirens must be engineered to sound like conventional fire-alarm bells. Therefore, in this study, experiments were conducted to measure the specific sound pressure and frequency characteristics of commercially available fire-alarm bells and electronic sirens, and their characteristics were reviewed. In addition, the differences between the bells and sirens were analyzed to develop a plan for supplementing warning sounds of electronic sirens.

Abstract: The design of a fire alarm with Arduino-based system by means of GSM Module. The work purposely for house safety where the main point is to avoid the fire accidents occurred to the residents and the properties inside the house. In order to prevent losses accrued from fire accidents, various alarm systems have been developed such as smoke detectors, temperature sensor based systems etc. The design and implementation of a cost effective and reliable GSM based SMS Alert fire alarm system. The device will be able to monitor the temperature of the environment, the smoke level, send SMS alert to an inbuilt GSM number. When the system detects the temperature of 100C or more, it will immediately display an alert notification on LCD display and simultaneously sending an SMS alert to the users upon the high raise temperature in the house. This fire detection system consists of a smoke sensor, buzzer, LCD display and GSM module is interfaced with Arduino board. Keywords: Smoke sensor, GSM Module, Arduino, LED display, Buzzer

As unwanted fire alarms within the automatic fire detection system increase, fire-fighting power gets wasted. This is recognized as important because it causes a decrease in the evacuation reliability of the occupancy. Therefore, in order to develop measures to reduce unwanted fire alarms, foreign (United States and, United Kingdom) and domestic standards related to unwanted fire alarms were compared and analyzed in the present study. Through the analysis the problems with the standards were identified as uncertainty regarding the detecting space and radius of the smoke detector, the absence of a statistical database (DB) for unwanted fire alarms, the absence of a protocol for managing unwanted fire alarms, and the absence of testing standards for unwanted fire alarms based on scenarios. Consequently, it is proposed that to deal with the problems, it is necessary to ascertain the detecting space and radius of the smoke detector, to propose unwanted fire alarm protection codes for database (DB) system construction, to supplement the fire safety management log by developing related manuals, and to develop unwanted fire alarm testing standards of Korean type based on scenarios.

Fire detection system has been developed for years, but the existing systems are either non-intelligent or non-integrated. This paper supposed a design of an intelligent and integrated fire safety surveillance system. We integrate video fire detection, fire positioning and fire suppression together into one intelligent system. Firstly, the video fire detection subsystem could recognize fire in the monitoring scene by processing the image sequences from the camera in real time. This subsystem will send fire alarm and video of fire scene to the control centre, and the centre will give positioning commands to the fire positioning subsystem. Secondly, the fire positioning subsystem will compute the coordinates of fire by images from two cameras of different position. The position information of fire will be also sent to the control centre and the centre will command fire suppression subsystem to work. Finally, the fire suppression subsystem could adjust the water cannon to the fire according to the coordinates of fire and spray water to put out the fire automatically. This integrated system can work independently and automatically. This system is applicable to various places, such as warehouse, workshop, dormitory, etc.

Many methods of fire detection in video have been carried out on PC. Generally it needs long cables to transmit images and processes videos on computers. That system is too dependent on computers, and costs a lot using cables to transmission. We would rather use a portable device to detect fire, which will bring us much more convenience. This paper designed a portable system to detect fire using DSP. The system integrates video acquisition, image processing and fire alarm together in a circuit board. Then we develop algorithms to recognize fire, and transplant them into DSP. Finally put it into use after commissioning test. This portable system can work independently. Users can put into their requirements through user-interface, and system will output the fire pictures and alarm by wireless communication or internet. This system is applicable to various places, such as indoor and outdoor, large and open spaces, forest, etc.

There are several differences between the two types of alarm systems, conventional systems and addressable systems. It is important to carefully determine the introduction of a fire alarm system according to the installation environment. Talking about the main difference relates to how the connected device communicates with the main control panel by sending a signal. Cost is another factor that can be a determinant of your chosen fire alarm system. In this paper, we proposed smart addressable fire detection system. In the proposed system, IoT was used and the network was constructed using ZigBee module. In the configured network, it consists of a local server and a control server. The local server controls the addressing sensor and sends the information obtained from the sensor to the control server. The control server receives data transmitted from the local server and enables quick fire action. In the actual implementation, the local server used the Lycra controller and ZigBee module. In addition, the control server used the Raspberry Pi and ZigBee modules and connected to the Ethernet so that the administrator could monitor or control the local server.
