With increased suicide rates among youth during recent decades, the K–12 educational community still lacks a comprehensive model for suicide prevention that is tailorable for school systems. With this article, we present the Research-Informed Adaptable Model for the Prevention of Suicide in Schools (RAMPSS). A multitiered system of support, RAMPSS includes (a) all four major components of the American School Counselor Association National Model and (b) options for research-based responsive services at each tier level.

This chapter explores the modality and benefits of videoconferencing from the content provider’s perspective. The content provider as “field expert” is discussed along with the benefits of providing nationwide outreach to K-12 educators and students via a cost-effective, interactive media. Applications of videoconferencing are addressed in addition to the perceptions of the provider in such areas as the needs of the K-12 educational community, methods and tools for presenting successful virtual field trips, and evidence of impact through informal teacher feedback and a professional study conducted in 2000. The author also addresses how providers can reach out to and collaboratively work with other organizations to enhance and build capacity.

This chapter introduces how APEC Cyber Academy, an international networked learning environment designed for K-12 students, can foster global collaboration through the integration of sound pedagogy and human computer interaction (HCI). Pedagogical principles that encourage project-based learning, knowledge construction, collaborative learning, community building, and critical thinking are incorporated into the design of this human computer interface. Furthermore, HCI is enriched by 3D virtual reality, multi-player games, an intelligent agent, video/voice conferencing, text-to-speech technologies, and instructional modules that are rooted in constructivist and self-regulated learning. APEC Cyber Academy provides a platform for engaging students in global collaboration and increasing information and communications technology (ICT) skills.
