Abstract Two dimensional field theories invariant under the Bondi-Metzner-Sachs (BMS) group are conjectured to be dual to asymptotically flat spacetimes in three dimensions. In this paper, we continue our investigations of the modular properties of these field theories. In particular, we focus on the BMS torus one-point function. We use two different methods to arrive at expressions for asymptotic structure constants for general states in the theory utilising modular properties of the torus one-point function. We then concentrate on the BMS highest weight representation, and derive a host of new results, the most important of which is the BMS torus block. In a particular limit of large weights, we derive the leading and sub-leading pieces of the BMS torus block, which we then use to rederive an expression for the asymptotic structure constants for BMS primaries. Finally, we perform a bulk computation of a probe scalar in the background of a flatspace cosmological solution based on the geodesic approximation to reproduce our field theoretic results.

Abstract Two dimensional field theories with Bondi-Metzner-Sachs symmetry have been proposed as duals to asymptotically flat spacetimes in three dimensions. These field theories are naturally defined on null surfaces and hence are conformal cousins of Carrollian theories, where the speed of light goes to zero. In this paper, we initiate an investigation of anomalies in these field theories. Specifically, we focus on the BMS equivalent of Weyl invariance and its breakdown in these field theories and derive an expression for Weyl anomaly. Considering the transformation of partition functions under this symmetry, we derive a Carrollian Liouville action different from ones obtained in the literature earlier.

In the conformal field theories having affine SL(2) symmetry, we study the operator product expansion (OPE) involving primary fields in highest weight representations. For this purpose, we analyze properties of primary fields with definite SL(2) weights, and calculate their two- and three-point functions. Using these correlators, we show that the correct OPE is obtained when one of the primary fields belongs to the degenerate highest weight representation. We briefly comment on the OPE in the SL (2,R) WZNW model.

Abstract We study the mixed system of correlation functions involving a scalar field charged under a global U(1) symmetry and the associated conserved spin-1 current Jμ. Using numerical bootstrap techniques we obtain bounds on new observables not accessible in the usual scalar bootstrap. We then specialize to the O(2) model and extract rigorous bounds on the three-point function coefficient of two currents and the unique relevant scalar singlet, as well as those of two currents and the stress tensor. Using these results, and comparing with a quantum Monte Carlo simulation of the O(2) model conductivity, we give estimates of the thermal one-point function of the relevant singlet and the stress tensor. We also obtain new bounds on operators in various sectors.

We investigate exactly solvable two-dimensional conformal field theories that exist at generic values of the central charge, and that interpolate between A-series or D-series minimal models. When the central charge becomes rational, correlation functions of these CFTs may tend to correlation functions of minimal models, or diverge, or have finite limits which can be logarithmic. These results are based on analytic relations between four-point structure constants and residues of conformal blocks.

Using free field representation of quantum affine algebra [Formula: see text], we investigate the structure of the Fock modules over [Formula: see text]. The analysis is based on a q-analog of the BRST formalism given by Bernard and Felder in the affine Kac-Moody algebra [Formula: see text]. We give an explicit construction of the singular vectors using the BRST charge. By the same cohomology analysis as the classical case (q=1), we obtain the irreducible highest weight representation space as a non-trivial cohomology group. This enables us to calculate a trace of the q-vertex operators over this space.

Abstract In previous work, we showed that an anomaly in the one point function of marginal operators is related by the Wess-Zumino condition to the Euler density anomaly on a two dimensional defect or boundary. Here we analyze in detail the two point functions of marginal operators with the stress tensor and with the displacement operator in three dimensions. We show how to get the boundary anomaly from these bulk two point functions and find perfect agreement with our anomaly effective action. For a higher dimensional conformal field theory with a four dimensional defect, we describe for the first time the anomaly effective action that relates the Euler density term to the one point function anomaly, generalizing our result for two dimensional defects.

Two-dimensional string theory is known to contain the set of discrete states that are the SU (2) multiplets generated by the lowering operator of the SU (2) current algebra. Their structure constants are defined by the area preserving diffeomorphisms in two dimensions. In this paper we show that the interaction of d = 2 superstrings with the superconformal β - γ ghosts enlarges the actual algebra of the dimension 1 currents and hence the new ghost-dependent discrete states appear. Generally, these states are the SU (N) multiplets if the algebra includes the currents of ghost numbers n : -N ≤ n ≤ N - 2, not related by picture changing. We compute the structure constants of these ghost-dependent discrete states for N = 3 and express them in terms of SU (3) Clebsch–Gordan coefficients, relating this operator algebra to the volume preserving diffeomorphisms in d = 3. For general N, the operator algebra is conjectured to be isomorphic to SDiff (N). This points at possible holographic relations between two-dimensional superstrings and field theories in higher dimensions.

We analyze whether the so-called method of stochastic analytic regularization is suitable as an intermediate step for constructing perturbative renormalized quantum field theories. We choose a λϕ3 in six dimensions to prove that this regularization method does not in general provide a quantum field theory. This result seems to apply to any field theory with a quadratically UV-divergent stochastic two-point function, for instance λϕ4 and gauge theories in four dimensions.
