The electrochemical behavior of the Pb2+/Pb(Hg) system in aqueous and aqueous ethylene glycol solutions is studied in the temperature range of 20.0 to 50.0 °C by means of current reversal chronopotentiometry. It is shown that the reduction of Pb2+ ion is reversible and that kinetic or catalytic complications are not present. The value of dE1/2/dT is −0.6 mV/deg in the aqueous solution and −0.5 mV/deg in the solution with 56% (w/w) or higher concentrations of the organic solvent. In the above concentration range of ethylene glycol the activation energies of diffusion and viscosity vary from 4.3 × 103 to 7.2 × 103 cal mol−1 and from 3.7 × 103 to 6.7 × 103 cal mol−1, respectively. For all solutions the solvodynamic mean radius of the diffusing species remains constant within the experimental error, suggesting that the diffusing species is always the hydrated Pb2+ ion.

The polymethoxyflavonoids nobiletin and tangeretin are isolated from peels of shekwasha ( Citrus depressa Hayata) and ponkan ( Citrus reticulata Blanco). These natural products possess biological activities, including anticancer and anti-inflammation properties. This report describes an efficient method for the extraction and isolation of nobiletin and tangeretin from citrus peels using 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium methylphosphonate ([C2mim][(MeO)(H)PO2]) and centrifugation/decantation. The results showed that the extraction yield of nobiletin and tangeretin using [C2mim][(MeO)(H)PO2]/organic solvent (1:1 w/w) was 1.4 to 1.6 times higher than that using organic solvent. This extraction method is expected to be applicable for obtaining other organic compounds from natural sources.

A novel method for decoration of anodic TiO2nanotube array films (NAFs) with Cu2O nanoparticles has been reported. The method is based on the reduction of Cu(II) in a mixture of ethylene glycol and N,N-dimethylformamide at 120°C for 16 h, where the resulting Cu2O can heterogeneously nucleate and grow on TiO2NAFs. The nanosized Cu2O is found to be well dispersed on the wall of TiO2nanotubes without blocking the nanotube, a commonly observed phenomenon in the case of deposition of Cu2O via electrochemical method. The amount of Cu2O deposited on the TiO2NAFs can be varied by adjusting the concentration of Cu(II) in the organic solution. UV-vis spectra measurement indicates that the decoration of TiO2NAFs with Cu2O nanoparticles greatly improves their ability to respond to visible light. By examining the photocurrent and photodegradation of methyl orange under simulated sunlight, it is found that these Cu2O-decorated TiO2NAFs show much more photoactive in comparison with the as-prepared TiO2NAFs.
