We present an analysis, based on the center–edge asymmetry, to distinguish effects of extra dimensions within the Arkani-Hamed–Dimopoulos–Dvali (ADD) and Randall–Sundrum (RS) scenarios from other new physics effects in lepton-pair production at the CERN Large Hadron Collider LHC. Spin-2 and spin-1 exchange can be distinguished up to an ADD cutoff scale, MH, of about 5 TeV, at the 95% CL. In the RS scenario, spin-2 resonances can be identified in most of the favored parameter space.

AbstractWe study the large transverse momentum distribution of lepton pairs produced in heavy-ion collisions, making use of the perturbative QCD. Referring to the calculation of the parton-parton production process into lepton pairs at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC), the production of lepton pairs at large transverse momentum is extended to the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The contribution of the parton-parton production process into lepton pairs in Pb-Pb collisions at the LHC is calculated, including the complete processes at large transverse momentum. Lepton pair production with the direct single photon process and the resolved single photon process are considered and confirmed to be significant at the LHC.

This proceeding contribution presents the recent highlights of charm physics programme of the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. These include measurements of charmonia production both in pp and nuclear collisions, charmonium pair production, studies of exotic states and Bc mesons. Most of the shown results are obtained with the data collected during the LHC Run-1.

Abstract We perform global fit to the quark Sivers function within the transverse momentum dependent (TMD) factorization formalism in QCD. We simultaneously fit Sivers asymmetry data from Semi-Inclusive Deep Inelastic Scattering (SIDIS) at COMPASS, HERMES, and JLab, from Drell-Yan lepton pair production at COMPASS, and from W/Z boson at RHIC. This extraction is performed at next-to-leading order (NLO) and next-to-next-to leading logarithmic (NNLL) accuracy. We find excellent agreement between our extracted asymmetry and the experimental data for SIDIS and Drell-Yan lepton pair production, while tension arises when trying to describe the spin asymmetries of W/Z bosons at RHIC. We carefully assess the situation, and we study in details the impact of the RHIC data and their implications through different ways of performing the fit. In addition, we find that the quality of the description of W/Z vector boson asymmetry data could be strongly sensitive to the DGLAP evolution of Qiu-Sterman function, besides the usual TMD evolution. We present discussion on this and the implications for measurements of the transverse-spin asymmetries at the future Electron Ion Collider.
