Thermochronologic constraints on uplifting events since the early cretaceous in the north margin of the Luxi rise, eastern China

Mesozoic magmatic rocks are widely distributed in the North China Craton (NCC) and are crucial to understanding the timing, location, and geodynamic mechanisms of lithospheric thinning of the NCC. In this study, we report geochronological, petrogeochemical, and Lu–Hf isotopic data for adakitic granitoids from different parts of Xiuyan pluton in the Liaodong Peninsula, aiming to constrain their magma sources, petrogenesis, and tectonic implications. The adakites are metaluminous to weakly peraluminous and are classified as high-K calc-alkaline I-type granite with Early Cretaceous zircon U–Pb ages of 129–126 Ma. They exhibit adakite-like geochemical characteristics, such as high Sr content and low Yb and Y contents, coupled with high Sr/Y and no pronounced Eu anomalies. They are enriched in Rb, U, and light rare-earth elements and are depleted in Ta, Nb, P, and Ti. The adakites from the eastern part of the pluton have low εHf(t) values (–8.5 to –4.0) with old TDM2 ages (1.57–1.31 Ga), indicating they were derived from the lower crust containing juvenile mantle-derived materials. In contrast, adakites from the northern part of the pluton have lower εHf(t) values (–19.7 to –16.6) with older TDM2 ages (2.21–2.03 Ga), indicating that they were derived mainly from an ancient crust. Our results show that both adakitic magmas were derived from partial melting of delaminated lower crust. Their relatively high MgO and Ni contents and Mg# values indicate that the melts interacted with mantle peridotites. The lower crust delamination beneath the Liaodong Peninsula resulted from paleo-Pacific plate subduction during the Early Cretaceous, which resulted in thinning of Mesozoic crust in the Xiuyan area.

AbstractThe Dabie orogenic belt is characterized by the presence of large volumes of intrusive and volcanic rocks that formed in Late Mesozoic times. Most of the intrusive bodies are I-type granites but it is still unclear whether there are contemporary A-type granites. Here, we report the first unambiguous discovery of A-type granite from Baiyashan in the North Dabie tectonic belt. The crystallization age of the body has been fixed as 120.4 ± 1.2 Ma using U–Pb analysis of zircons by LA-ICPMS. The Baiyashan granite is enriched in Si, K, Na, Rb and REE, has elevated FeOtot/(FeOtot + MgO) and Ga/Al ratios, and is depleted in Mg, Ca, Mn, Ba, Sr, P and Ti. The REE composition shows highly fractionated patterns with (La/Yb)N = 6.95–16.68 and Eu*/Eu = 0.33–0.59. Its crystallization age, field relationships, petrographic and geochemical data show beyond doubt that the Baiyashan granite is an Early Cretaceous A-type granite. Sr–Nd isotope systematics are characterized by a high ISr of 0.708–0.714 and a low ɛNd of −7.5 to −19.4, with TDM2 = 1.5–2.5 Ga, and these data indicate that the magmas were dominantly sourced from partial melting of middle to lower crustal intermediate-felsic igneous rocks and mingling with mafic to intermediate magmas, during rift-related magmatism associated with subduction of the Palaeo-Pacific Plate beneath Eastern China in Early Cretaceous times.

AbstractExsolved garnet, sometimes associated with exsolved amphibole and zoisite, is abundant in aluminous clinopyroxene of garnet clinopyroxenite and clinopyroxenite xenoliths in the early Cretaceous dioriticmonzodioritic intrusions from the Xuzhou region, ∼100 km west of the Sulu ultrahigh-pressure (UHP) metamorphic terrane in eastern China. In addition to the mineral exsolutions, intergranular fine-grained garnet, zoisite, titanite, and sometimes amphibole are also present around the primary clinopyroxene grains. Clinopyroxene shows compositional gradients, with decreasing Al and increasing Si and Mg, adjacent to the garnet lamellae and intergranular garnet. In contrast, the exsolved and intergranular garnet is homogeneous in composition and typically more grossular-rich and pyrope- and almandinepoor than the coarse-grained primary garnet. The estimates of P and T for the precursor assemblage and garnet exsolution suggests a decrease of temperature from ∼950—1100ºC down to 620—780°C, and a nearly constant pressure from ∼15—20 kbar to 18 kbar, which are comparable with the metamorphic conditions of the associated eclogites. Therefore, garnet exsolution in garnet clinopyroxenite and clinopyroxenite xenoliths could be caused by high-pressure (HP) metamorphism. SHRIMP zircon U-Pb dating for the associated eclogite and gneiss xenoliths and Sm-Nd whole rock-garnet dating for the same eclogite demonstrate that parts of lower crust on the southeastern margin of the North China craton might be involved in the Triassic HP metamorphism due to the deep subduction of the Yangtze craton.

This paper does unidirectional fluid-solid coupling calculation on the runner strength under three designed head loading conditions of a certain Francis turbine in the north-eastern China. The water pressure on the blade in the flow fields of different operating conditions is calculated by means of CFD software CFX. With the help of ansys workbench, the water pressure is loaded to the blade as structural load to conclude the static stress distribution and deformation of the runner under different operating conditions. The results show that the maximum static stress increases with the rise of the flow and appears near the influent side of the blade connected to the runner crown; the maximum deformation increases with the rise of the flow and appears on the band. The results provides effective basis for the structural design and safe operation of the Francis turbine.

Multituberculates, though among the most commonly encountered mammalian fossils of the Mesozoic, are poorly known from the North American Early Cretaceous, with only one taxon named to date. Herein we describe Argillomys marylandensis, gen. et sp. nov., from the Early Cretaceous of Maryland, based on an isolated M2. Argillomys represents the second mammal known from the Arundel Clay facies of the Patuxent Formation (Lower Cretaceous: Aptian). Though distinctive in its combination of characters (e.g., enamel ornamentation consisting of ribs and grooves only, cusp formula 2:4, presence of distinct cusp on anterobuccal ridge, enlargement of second cusp on buccal row, central position of ultimate cusp in lingual row, great relative length), the broader affinities of Argillomys cannot be established because of non-representation of the antemolar dentition. Based on lack of apomorphies commonly seen among Cimolodonta (e.g., three or more cusps present in buccal row, fusion of cusps in lingual row, cusps strongly pyramidal and separated by narrow grooves), we provisionally regard Argillomys as a multituberculate of “plagiaulacidan” grade. Intriguingly, it is comparable in certain respects to some unnamed Paulchoffatiidae, a family otherwise known from the Late Jurassic – Early Cretaceous of the Iberian Peninsula.

Angiosperms are the single most important plant group in the current ecosystem. However, little is known about the origin and early evolution of angiosperms. Jurassic and earlier traces of angiosperms have been claimed multiple times from Europe and Asia, but reluctance to accept these records remains. To test the truthfulness of these claims, palaeobotanical records from continents other than Europe and Asia constitute a crucial test. Here I document a new angiosperm fruit, Dilcherifructus mexicana gen. et sp. nov, from the Middle Jurassic of Mexico. Its Jurassic age suggests that origin of angiosperms is much earlier than widely accepted, while its occurrence in the North America indicates that angiosperms were already widespread in the Jurassic, although they were still far away from their ecological radiation, which started in the Early Cretaceous.
