The study were carried out to evaluate the effect of different varieties of bael (Pant Aparna, Pant Shivani and Pant Urvashi) dried by different method such as open sun drying, tray drying (600C and 700C) and hot air oven drying (600C and 700C) on functional properties of bael powder. The functional properties such as swelling capacity, water absorption capacity, oil absorption capacity, foam capacity, solubility and bulk density were decreased with increase in drying temperature. The result showed that the Variety Pant Aparna at 600C cabinet tray drying and Variety Pant Aparna by open sun drying bael powder had highest functional properties compared to others treated bael powder. Bael powder has good functional properties which enhance the nutritional quality of the value added products.

In this study, the impacts of two different pear cultivars, “Conference” and “Alexander Lucas”, on the kinetics and the final quality of samples dried by convection (CD) and microwave-convection (MCD) methods, were investigated. The quality of dried material was evaluated by the analysis of water activity, porosity, color, acoustic emission (AE) and mechanical and sensory properties. The required drying time to obtain 0.2 kg H2O/kg dry solid (d.s.) was longer for “Conference” than “Alexander Lucas” and was 20 min by CD and 5 min by MCD. The pear cultivar, in conjunction with the drying method (CD or MCD), affected the number of AE events and the work of breaking. The CD pear of the “Conference” cultivar was characterized by higher force, higher breaking work and stronger AE relative to the CD pear of the “Alexander Lucas” cultivar. There were no differences in taste or overall quality, but the hardness was higher for the CD “Conference” pear. A principal component analysis showed that panelists preferred dried fruit with good taste and overall quality but lower hardness. A positive correlation was found between the number of acoustic events and sensory hardness; thus, an acoustic method can be useful for effectively evaluating the texture of dried pears. These results show that the dried pear slices that generated fewer AE events upon breaking were perceived as better by the panelists.

The influence of different drying methods on physical and nutritional properties of shrimp meat was investigated in this study. Peeled shrimps were dried separately using an air-oven dryer and a tunnel solar dryer. The drying profile of shrimp meat was determined in the two drying systems by monitoring moisture loss over the drying period. Changes in color, proximate composition, and rehydration capacity were assessed. The rate of moisture removal during solar drying was faster than the air-oven drying. The development of red color during drying was comparable among the two methods, but solar-dried shrimps appeared darker (L⁎=47.4) than the air-oven-dried (L⁎=49.0). Chemical analysis indicated that protein and fat made up nearly 20% and 2% (wb) of the shrimp meat, respectively. Protein and ash content of shrimp meat dried under the two dryer types were comparable but fat was significantly (p<0.05) higher in oven-dried meat (2.1%), compared to solar-dried meat (1.5%). Although rehydration behavior of shrimp from the two drying systems followed a similar pattern, solar-dried shrimp absorbed moisture more rapidly. The results have demonstrated that different approaches to drying may affect the physical and nutritional quality of shrimp meat differently.

Innovations in health care are costly and risky, but they also provide the opportunity for hospitals to increase quality of care, to distinguish themselves from competitors and to attract patients. While numerous hospitals strive to increase their innovativeness by adopting a costly innovation leader strategy, the question of whether this actually influences the patient’s choice remains unanswered. To understand the role of innovativeness from the patient perspective, this study conceptualizes the construct of innovativeness reputation of hospitals and determines its relevance in patients’ hospital choice decisions. In the pretest, we identified six dimensions of innovativeness reputation such as progressive work procedures and value added services. We then used three different quantitative multi-criteria decision-making methods to evaluate the relative importance of innovativeness reputation in patient choice. We collected data from 355 former German patients who had undergone elective non-emergency surgery. Overall, innovativeness reputation accounts for 11.6%–16.8% of the patient decision. Innovativeness reputation has a moderate influence on hospital choice and should be taken into account by managers. Since technical innovations are costly, hospitals should use other means to enhance their innovative image. Strategies such as emphasizing value added services can enable hospitals to increase their innovativeness reputation efficiently.

Background:Objectives:Analyse the effect of secukinumab in terms of the patient´s own variables, specifically: fatigue, sleep, pain and quality of life in patients with psoriatic arthritis or spondyloarthritis.Methods:A multicentric longtitudinal observational prospective study was carried out at 6 months in patients who begin treatment with secukinumab. At the start and after 6 months the following data was collected on the outcome: pain through an visual analogue scale (VAS), fatigue using the FACIT-fatigue scale, sleeping problems using the insomnia severity index (ISI) and quality of life with the EuroQol-3L-5D and the PsAQoL.The sample can be described in terms of the distribution of the variables through measures of central tendency.It was analysed if the change after 6 months was statistically relevant using Student´s t-test for paired data in the case of FACIT, VAS, PsAQoL and ISI and chi-squared for the dimensions of the EQ-5D. The size of the effect of each of the measurements taken was calculated using Cohen’s D. the results are given grouped by disease and globally. The analysis was carried out using Stata v12 (College Station Tx, USA)Results:In table 1, the changes in the scales of normal distribution can be seen. Apart from general VAS, all the scales experience significant relevant changes. The PROs preferred by the patient with the best therapeutic response is the quality of sleep. The adjustment of the regression models does not produce changes in the results, apart from small adjustments to the condidence intervals (final column table 1). The subdomain in which the most significant change in the EQ-5D is produced is in that of pain and discomfort.Conclusion:After 6 months patients who begin treatment with secukinumab, present with improvements in all sizes of the effects of the treatment in the various studied scales. The improvement achieves global and generalised statistical significance after 6 months of study.
