The performance of yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ)–samaria-doped ceria (SDC) dual layer electrolyte anode-supported solid oxide fuel cell (AS-SOFC) was investigated. Tape-casting, lamination, and co-sintering of the NiO–YSZ anode followed by wet powder spraying of the SDC buffer layer and BSCF cathode was proposed for fabrication of these cells as an effective means of reducing the number of sintering stages required. The AS-SOFC showed a significant fuel cell performance of ∼1.9 W cm−2 at 800 °C. The fuel cell performance varies significantly with the sintering temperature of the SDC buffer layer. An optimal buffer layer sintering temperature of 1350 °C occurs due to a balance between the YSZ–SDC contact and densification at low sintering temperature and reactions between YSZ and SDC at high sintering temperatures. At high sintering temperatures, the reactions between YSZ and SDC have a detrimental effect on the fuel cell performance resulting in no power at a sintering temperature of 1500 °C.

Abstract A multifractal analysis has been performed on the three-dimensional surface microtexture of the ZnO thin films doped with Mg deposited by sol-gel spin coating on glass substrates. The effects of Mg doping element with amounts of 0, 2, 4, and 5 % on structural and morphological properties of the coated films were investigated. From the X-ray diffraction pattern analysis, it was found that the obtained thin films had a polycrystalline hexagonal wurtzite structure with preferential c-axis orientation and increased grain size with increasing the Mg doping. From scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis, it can be concluded that the surface of coated thin films had dense and uniformly distributed grains of nanoscale without any cracks over all surfaces of coated firms. From atomic force microscope (AFM) analysis, it can be also concluded that the surface of coated thin films had a dense columnar grain growth uniformly distributed over the entire 1 µm ⋅ 1 µm - scanned area. The surface microtexture was characterized in terms of multifractal analysis.

This research involved comprehensive studies on thermal, physical, and morphological properties of SiO2-Na2O-CaO-P2O5 (SNCP) glass-ceramic at various sintering temperatures. The study in SNCP glass-ceramic using soda-lime-silica (SLS) wastes glass and clam shell (CS) wastes as the main raw of materials via conventional melt-quenching technique and solid state sintering are interesting and challenging by considering the research using waste materials to fabricate novel SNCP glass-ceramic. The main peaks, Na3PO4 and Ca3Na6Si6O18 were assigned to high crystallization temperature (Tc) at 650-950?C. The density of samples increases at 550-750?C and decreases at 850-950?C due to the increase of sample thickness and higher specific volume at high sintering temperature. FESEM micrograph showed that existed porous increased at sintering temperature 850-950?C contributes effect to low densification of the sample.

Nanoparticles of La2CuO4 (LCO) with different particles and crystallite size have been synthesized by the sol-gel method. The samples have been sintered at 600, 650, and 700°C. The sintering process have been performed in atmospheric pressure and vacuum pressure. The structural and morphological properties of the samples have been investigated by the X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), and Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM). The XRD patterns of the samples have shown that all samples crystallize in orthorhombic structure with Bmab space group. Additionally, Rietveld refinement process have shown that higher sintering temperature, as well sintering process under vacuum pressure, can improve both phase purity and the crystallinity of the samples. SEM and TEM results have also shown that higher sintering temperature results in a sample with larger particle size.
