The waste management practices in primary healthcare centres of Iran were investigated in the present study. A total of 120 primary healthcare centres located across the country were selected using the cluster sampling method and the current situation of healthcare waste management was determined through field investigation. The quantities of solid waste and wastewater generation per outpatient were found to be 60 g outpatient—1 day—1 and 26 L outpatient—1 day— 1, respectively. In all of the facilities, sharp objects were separated almost completely, but separation of other types of hazardous healthcare solid waste was only done in 25% of the centres. The separated hazardous solid waste materials were treated by incineration, temporary incineration and open burning methods in 32.5, 8.3 and 42.5% of the healthcare centres, respectively. In 16.7% of the centres the hazardous solid wastes were disposed of without any treatment. These results indicate that the management of waste materials in primary healthcare centres in Iran faced some problems. Staff training and awareness, separation of healthcare solid waste, establishment of the autoclave method for healthcare solid waste treatment and construction of septic tanks and disinfection units in the centres that were without access to a sewer system are the major measures that are suggested for improvement of the waste management practices.

The aim of this research is to develop a new multi-criteria decision-making method that integrates an intuitionistic fuzzy entropy measure and variable weight theory to be implemented in different fields to provide a solution for MCDM problems when the available information is incomplete. A limited number of studies have considered determining decision maker’s weights by performing objective techniques, and almost all of these researches detected a constant weights for the decision makers. In addition, most of the MCDM studies were not formulated to perform sensitivity analysis. The new method is based on the TOPSIS model with an intuitionistic fuzzy entropy measure in the exponential-related function form and the engagement of the variable weight theory to determine weights for the decision-makers that vary as per attibutes. Lastly, a mathematical model was developed in this research to be as an input for developing the mobile-aplication based method in future for virtual use of the new MCDM method.

Fuzzy entropy means the measurement of fuzziness in a fuzzy set and therefore plays a vital role in solving the fuzzy multicriteria decision making (MCDM) and multicriteria group decision making (MCGDM) problems. In this study, the notion of the measure of distance based entropy for uncertain information in the context of interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy set (IVIFS) is introduced. The arithmetic and geometric average operators are firstly used to aggregate the interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy information provided by the decision makers (DMs) or experts corresponding to each alternative, and then the fuzzy entropy of each alternative is calculated based on proposed distance measure. Several numerical examples are solved to demonstrate the application to MCDM and MCGDM problems to show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

A new parametric function va(p)= log (1+a) - Σlog((1+api)/pi)-1,a>o is proposed for the probability distribution p1p2p3… … … pn and its properties are studied. In this paper the given functions is twice differentiable and is used to obtain the related measure of directed divergence, measure of intutionistic fuzzy entropy, measure of intutionistic fuzzy directed divergence. We also investigate the monotonic character of the proposed function.

Background: COVID-19 which has been declared a global pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) has affected most countries in the world including Ghana. The first positive case of the disease was confirmed in Ghana on 12th March, 2020 and since then, its number has increased to over 566 as at the end of the study period. The aim of the study was to assess how one of the health facilities manages waste materials generated from COVID-19 patients. Methods: The study lasted for four weeks within which various interviews, independent observations, waste measurements and data analysis with Microsoft Excel were made. A purposive sampling technique was used to select one health facility for this study. Results: The facility allocated 36 beds for the COVID-19 patients. A total of 178.80 kg of infectious waste was generated within the four weeks. Waste from the isolation units were placed in bins lined with red bags and plastic sharps containers. The hazardous waste from the facility is finally collected and transported by a private waste medical waste management company for safe treatment and disposal. Conclusions: The study concluded that, the health facility practiced proper infection prevention and control (IPC) practices at the COVID-19 isolation centre. The study recommends that, awareness should be created for hazardous waste in general through training and advocacy. More centralized medical waste treatment facilities should be established in other parts of the country and there should also be strict enforcement of policies and regulations on healthcare waste management.

Entropy in a fuzzy set measures the amount of ambiguity/imprecision presented in the fuzzy set. In this article, the authors introduce a generalized fuzzy entropy measure and demonstrate its effectiveness in Multiple Attribute Decision Making (MADM) and superiority from the point of view of structured linguistic variables. This article also introduces a generalized fuzzy directed divergence and investigates its properties. Further, this article demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed generalized directed divergence in pattern recognition.
