New distribution models have transformed television over the past decade, and Netflix’s One Day at a Time (2017–) stands out not only because it is a remake of a classic Norman Lear sitcom, but because it also foregrounds a Cuban American family. Using a radical contextual and relational approach, this study analyzes One Day at a Time from a cultural studies perspective using theoretical tools that arrive from critical Latina/o communication studies. We analyze the first season’s 13 episodes to demonstrate how storytelling is modified in the context of digital streaming. In this case, we argue that One Day at a Time offers an alternative to the flattening of difference far too common in Latina/o media. Instead, the show highlights the cultural specificity of this Cuban American family as a form of broad audience appeal as it negotiates sexual identity and immigration discourses within a contemporary social framework.

The market for retail financial services has been transformed in the past decade by new distribution and processing technologies and their impact on consumer attitudes to banking and banks. These factors have removed the geographic and cost barriers to the global distribution of retail financial services and have led to a convergence in the key benefits sought by consumers in developed countries. This increases the need for and the effectiveness of globally consistent brand images.

The present study reports new distribution records of seven species of Cerambycid beetles belonging to seven genera of seven tribes and under two subfamilies from Madhya Pradesh. As a result, based on the past literature and the present study, a total of 18 species of Cerambycidae are known from Madhya Pradesh. The paper also provides detailed diagnostic characters of the eight studied species.

Despite extensive surveys conducted in the past, many remote areas in the Philippines remain unexplored and many species are unknown to science. The Mount Hamiguitan Range (MHR) is among these areas, containing large remaining forests tracts. In this study, we report new records of amphibians and reptiles from MHR and propose removing two species from the previously listed species from this mountain range. We used standardized techniques to sample populations of amphibians and reptiles in fragmented forests of Mt. Hamiguitan. Our survey resulted in 16 new records of species (four frogs, three lizards and nine snakes). Combining our results with previous studies, the known species diversity from the MHR is now increased to a total of 61 taxa. Our results highlight the underestimated diversity of herpetofauna of Mt. Hamiguitan, and we discuss the importance of repeated surveys for determining species occurrences and assessing their conservation status.

In this contribution to the subfamily Pseudophyllinae in the Neotropics, we focus on reviewing the status of the genus Brachyauchenus and its four included species. After this revision, the genus remains monotypic, including only B. castaneus (type species), so it is necessary to provide a new diagnosis, since the current has characteristics of species that in the past was moved to Triencentrus, in addition to the characteristics of the species that are being excluded here. B. castaneus is redescribed to complement the characteristics of the genus, the unknown female is described, and new distribution data are provided, refuting the presence of this species in Bogotá, Colombia, its type locality. Brachyauchenus festae and B. minutus are grouped into the new genus Mikrischyrum n. gen. (Platyphyllini) which is similar to Baliophyllum and Drepanoxiphus, and a key is provided to differentiate these species. Brachyauchenus varicosus is being moved to the genus Stenoschema (Pleminiini), restricting the distribution of Brachyauchenus to the center and north of the eastern slope of the Colombian Andes and the new genus in Panama and the Peruvian Amazon. A map is included with the distribution data of the species studied here. Finally, the variation of the coloration of some species and the current taxonomic panorama of the tribe Platyphyllini are discussed.

Abstract Examination of bycatch in traps used for adult mosquito control surveillance and bycatch in larval sampling jars, over the past 21 yr, has revealed a number of new distribution records for arthropods. The literature is reviewed, and new distribution information is presented for 98 species of Diptera, 35 species of Copepoda, 14 species of Lepidoptera, and 1 species each of Hemiptera, Hymenoptera, and Amphipoda. Among the new information generated are new records for the United States, new records for Florida, range extensions, a new phoretic association, and at least eight undescribed species, five of which have been described and named. Examination of bycatch can provide basic identification on species distribution and seasonal abundance that might otherwise go undetected. About one-third of Florida mosquito control programs that responded to a survey indicated that bycatch from surveillance was examined. There was a moderate association between presence of a biologist or entomologist on staff and examination of bycatch. Florida mosquito control programs may be able to help fill knowledge gaps related to the state’s arthropod fauna.

Until now, a complete checklist of Sphagnum-dwelling testate amoebae in Bulgaria has never been published. Records for species diversity and distribution in the country were scattered in many faunistic and ecological publications. The aim of the present study is to summarise all data for the species distribution at the level of country by reviewing the existing literature and by additional data obtained in our research over the past two years. The checklist comprises 171 species, classified into 43 genera, 20 families, three orders, three classes and three phyla. We present data for 16 new Sphagnum-dwelling testate amoebae in Bulgaria and new distribution data for 134 species. Of them, 99 species are recorded from Stara Planina Mt., for which there was no available data to date. Additionally are recorded 69 new species for Pirin Mt., 21 for Vitosha Mt. and 18 for Rila Mt. Thirty six species are synonymised according to the latest taxonomic changes. Two misidentified taxa (Euglyphabrachiata Penard, 1902 and Difflugiacompressavar.africana Gauthier-Lièvre et Thomas, 1958) are transferred into valid species E.acanthophora and Zivkoviciacompressa, respectively. Three of the recorded species have not been included in the checklist, because they are currently not refering to testate amoebae (Cochliopodiumbilimbosum (Auerbach 1856) and Cochliopodiumechinatum Korotneef, 1879 are gymnamoebae (naked amoebae) and Microgromiaelegantula (Penard 1904) = Paralieberkuehniaelegantula (Penard 1904) is freshwater foraminifera).

A continuum survey of the galactic-centre region has been carried out at Parkes at 20 cm wavelength over the areal11= 355° to 5°,b11= -3° to +3° (Kerr and Sinclair 1966, 1967). This is a larger region than has been covered in such surveys in the past. The observations were done as declination scans.

During the last 10 years, the writer has presented evidence indicating that the Moon was captured by the Earth and that the large collisions with its surface occurred within a surprisingly short period of time. These observations have been a continuous preoccupation during the past years and some explanation that seemed physically possible and reasonably probable has been sought.

It is generally accepted that history is an element of culture and the historian a member of society, thus, in Croce's aphorism, that the only true history is contemporary history. It follows from this that when there occur great changes in the contemporary scene, there must also be great changes in historiography, that the vision not merely of the present but also of the past must change.
