AbstractCross-infection involves the transmission of microorganisms through secretions, bodily fluids and excreta, as well as undisinfected surfaces and medical equipment. In the dental office, diseases are transmitted via various routes, e.g. from patient to dentist or other member of dental team, from doctor or dental team member to patient, from patient to another patient, from dental office to community and from community to patient. The study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of infection control in dental practices based on the qualitative and quantitative assessment of microbiological contaminants detected on the surface of filling material packaging used in dental offices. The material for research were 9 packages containing dental materials during their use in 3 dental settings. The packages were placed in sterile flasks and rinsed to wash microorganisms from the surfaces. The washes were filtered through membrane filters and cultured under proper aerobic and anaerobic conditions, and at elevated CO2 concentration. Microbial growth on TIO and TSB media was observed. The contamination of most samples remained low as indicated by the growth from one to a maximum of five colonies on TSA. The contamination remained at the level of 10-50 CFU/package, i.e. <100 CFU/single package. The tests evaluating the contamination of dental package surfaces with aerobic bacteria confirmed high hygiene standards observed in dental offices from which the packages were brought.

Background: Cancer poses a major public health issue, is linked with high mortality rates across the world, and shows a strong interplay between genetic and environmental factors. To date, common therapeutics, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and radiotherapy, have made significant contributions to cancer treatment, although diverse obstacles for achieving the permanent “magic bullet” cure have remained. Recently, various anticancer therapeutic agents designed to overcome the limitations of these conventional cancer treatments have received considerable attention. One of these promising and novel agents is the siRNA delivery system; however, poor cellular uptake and altered siRNA stability in physiological environments have limited its use in clinical trials. Therefore, developing the ideal siRNA delivery system with low cytotoxicity, improved siRNA stability in the body’s circulation, and prevention of its rapid clearance from bodily fluids, is rapidly emerging as an innovative therapeutic strategy to combat cancer. Moreover, active targeting using ligand moieties which bind to over-expressed receptors on the surface of cancer cells would enhance the therapeutic efficiency of siRNA. Conclusion: In this review, we provide 1) an overview of the non-viral carrier associated with siRNA delivery for cancer treatment, and 2) a description of the five major cancer-targeting ligands.

: Recently, an increasing number of biological and clinical reports have demonstrated that imbalance of microbial community has the ability to play important roles among several complex diseases concerning human health. Having a good knowledge of discovering potential of microbe-disease relationships, which provides the ability to having a better understanding of some issues, including disease pathology, further boosts disease diagnostics and prognostics, has been taken into account. Nevertheless, a few computational approaches can meet the need of huge scale of microbe-disease association discovery. In this work, we proposed the EHAI model, which is Enhanced Human microbe- disease Association Identification. EHAI employed the microbe-disease associations, and then Gaussian interaction profile kernel similarity has been utilized to enhance the basic microbe-disease association. Actually, some known microbe-disease associations and a large amount of associations are still unavailable among the datasets. The ‘super-microbe’ and ‘super-disease’ were employed to enhance the model. Computational results demonstrated that such super-classes have the ability to be helpful to the performance of EHAI. Therefore, it is anticipated that EHAI can be treated as an important biological tool in this field.
