<p><strong>Abstract.</strong> This article shows a first step in the development of an immersive virtual tour of the Cathedral of Palermo, entering the fields of Digital Cultural Heritage and Edutainment. Its purpose is to help people to gain knowledge about the site, highlighting the complex stratifications that have characterized its history.</p><p>The development of the project has been possible thanks to different phases of work: surveys were initially carried out by laser scanning, then assembled and processed to obtain the 3D model of the current state; at the same time, the model of reconstruction was processed in several phases, based on historical, archival and iconographic sources; both models were, later, subject to post-processing, preparatory to the development of virtual navigation. The tour scenario includes options in order to make it attractive for the player, such as interactive elements, interfaces and animations.</p>

The paper presents an evaluation of RELAP5-3D code suitability to model specific transients that take place during RBMK-1500 reactor operation, where the neutronic response of the core is important. A successful best estimate RELAP5-3D model of the Ignalina NPP RBMK-1500 reactor has been developed and validated against real plant data. Certain RELAP5-3D transient calculation results were benchmarked against calculation results obtained using the Russian code STEPAN, specially designed for RBMK reactor analysis. Comparison of the results obtained, using the RELAP5-3D and STEPAN codes, showed quite good mutual coincidence of the calculation results and good agreement with real plant data.

In this article, a new analytical technique called Improved Parker-Sochacki Method (IPSM) for solving nonlinear Michaelis-Menten enzyme catalyzed reaction model is proposed. The global form of the solution for the concentrations of the substrate, enzyme and the enyzme-free product are obtained. Employing the Laplace-Pade resummation as a post processing technique on the computed series solution, the domain of convergence of the solution is greatly extended. The solution is therefore devoid of limited convergence interval that is typical of series solution of nonlinear differential equations.  The proposed method showed a significant improvement  over the conventional Parker-Sochacki Method (PSM). Furthermore, comparison of the results with numerically computed solutions elucidated the simplicity and accuracy of the proposed method.

AbstractThe standard PN-EN 1993-1-5: 2008 (Eurocode 3) compared with the standard (PN-B-03200: 1990) used previously in Poland, introduces extended rules referring to the computations of the bearing capacity of the plated structural elements including the shear lag effect. The stress distribution in the width flanges is variable. Therefore in the case of the beam with the shear lag effect cannot be calculated by the classic beam theory. In this article a comparison of the results of the calculations of forces distribution, stresses and displacement according to the rule presented in PN-EN 1993 and results of the numerical computations for 3D model (using finite element method) is presented. The elastic shear lag effects, the elastic shear lag effects including effects of the plate buckling and the elastic-plastic shear lag effects including the local instabilities were analysed. The calculations were performed for beams with a small and a large span and an influence of stiffeners was analysed.
