Representative samples of Caledonian greenstones from the Grong, Joma, Løkken, Støren, Stavenes, and Bømlo areas in central and southern Norway have been analysed for major elements and over 20 trace elements. Ocean-floor tholeiite-normalized trace-element patterns and chondrite-normalized rare-earth patterns both provide clues to the genesis, original tectonic setting, petrologic character, and effects of alteration of these greenstones. We conclude that the Støren, Stavenes, and Løkken greenstones were generated at spreading axes within the Caledonian ocean, the Grong and possibly the Bømlo submarine greenstones were erupted in an island-arc system, and the Joma and Bømlo subaerial greenstones were erupted in a within-plate setting. The Løkken greenstones may have been generated in a marginal basin, whereas those from Støren and Stavenes were probably generated at a rapidly spreading axis in a major ocean.

SummaryIn order to obtain further evidence for the tectonic environment of generation of the basaltic rocks of the Ballantrae igneous complex, specimens of pillow lavas, dolerites, glaucophane schists and amphibolites were analysed for Ti, Zr, Y and Nb. Using Ti–Zr–Y, Ti–Zr and Y/Nb diagrams, three different genetic groups have been distinguished – (i) hot-spot basalts round Downan Point, round Bennane Head as far N as Balcreuchan Port, and also within serpentinite around Lendalfoot, (ii) island arc low-potassium tholeiites between Balcreuchan Port and Gamesloup, and (iii) possible ocean floor basalts at Knockormal and Knocklaugh. The interrelationships of these groups are in doubt. The hot-spot basalts may have been erupted through oceanic crust, but they could have formed prior to, or subsequent to, the island arc activity. More likely, the hot-spot basalts formed (possibly on oceanic crust) at a considerable distance from the island arc, and the two were later brought together tectonically, probably at the subduction zone associated with the arc.

Asenitsa unit metapelites (Central Rhodope massif) have a high variability in mineral, bulk chemical and trace element composition. Kyanite, staurolite and garnet are the major minerals in schists and show intensive retrograde change. Discrimination diagrams based on immobile trace elements indicate continental island arc or active margin setting of deposition.

Karangbolong High located in Java Southern Mountain range is dominated by volcanic rocks of Gabon Formation in the form of volcanic breccia, some intrusion bodies and lavas. Research on the type of magma at Karangbolong high has never been done. This activity is intended to know the distribution, change the type of magma and tectonic position. This research includes field sampling and laboratory work which includes petrographic analysis using polarization microscope and geochemistry analysis 4 litho ICP-WRA for major element and ICP-WRA4B2 for trace elements and REE. Results of geochemistry analysis are.plot in Total Alkali Silica (TAS) diagrams, AFM diagram , SiO2 vs FeO(t) / MgO diagram, SiO2 Vs K2O and the spider diagram.for trace elements and REE.Most of the igneous rocks at Karangbolong Region are andesite pyroxene, basaltic andesite and slightly basalt olivine. To the northward, igneous rocks are tend to more acid as reflected by the increase of SiO2, Na2O and K2O and the decreasing of MgO and Fe2O3 content. The affinity of the magma in the northern part is mostly Calc-Alkaline series (KR-18, KR-28, KR-6, KR-23) and slightly Island Arc Tholeiite as intrusion and lava at southern part (KR-33 and KR- 17). The tectonic position of rock formation resides in Island Arc Plate Margin. The Calk-alkaline magma is enriched with the light rare earth elements (LREE) compared to the Tholeiite magma, while trace element Sr, K, Rb, Ba, and Th strongly enriched in.Keywords : Karangbolong High, igneous rock, magmatic type, tectonic position

Geza island arc located in the southwest Sanjiang tectonic igneous rock belts which was a products of Ganzi-Litang oceanic crust diving to Zhongdian Landmasses in late Triassic. Lithogeochemical characteristics shown that the porphyry(porphyrite) and island-arc granite rocks have the same rock series (high-K calc-alkaline) and the same genetic type (I-type granite); these rocks trace elements similar to the granite of island arc, which enriched in Ba, La, Hf, Au,chalcophile elements Cu,Pb, siderophile elements Mo, Ni, and depleted in Rb, Nb, P, Ti. In this region, the similarities of porphyry and local acidic volcanic rocks in the main elements, REE and other trace elements and the composition suggest that they both have the same or similar magmatic source rocks. It is shown that the characteristics of the rock with the island arc granite partial melting of source rock, that may come from the arc type volcano rock or island arc volcano rock cognate magma evolution.
