ABSTRACT Objective: to propose and analyze a theoretical model to measure the effect of nurses’ perceptions about the practice environment on safety climate, job satisfaction, intention to stay employed and in the profession, and burnout syndrome. Method: correlational study with probabilistic sample of 465 nurses. In the theoretical model, the dimensions of the nursing practice environment were considered as independent variables and job satisfaction, safety climate, intention to stay employed and in the profession, and burnout were considered the outcome variables. Structural Equation Modeling was the method used in the analysis. Results: small adjustments were made in the model and the dimensions of practice environment predicted job satisfaction (R2 = 43%), safety climate (R2 = 42%) and burnout (R2 = 36%), as well as the intention to stay in the job (R2 = 22%) and in the profession (R2 = 17%). Conclusion: the practice environment showed a strong impact on job satisfaction, safety climate and burnout, with a moderate impact on the intention to stay in the institution and in the profession. The findings can be used to manage care in health institutions, focusing on promoting nurse retention and improving the safety climate.

We set up a game theoretical model to analyze the optimal attacking intensity of sports teams during a game. We suppose that two teams can dynamically choose among more or less offensive actions and that the scoring probability of each team depends on both teams’ actions. We assume a zero sum setting and characterize a Nash equilibrium in terms of the unique solution of an Isaacs equation. We present results from numerical experiments showing that a change in the score has a strong impact on strategies, but not necessarily on scoring intensities. We give examples where strategies strongly depend on the score, the scoring intensities not at all.

Because it has become more and more urgent for organizations to implement environmental strategies with the support of organizational culture, this study considers it necessary to conduct an empirical study to examine the impact of organizational culture on environmental performance. Synthesizing the perspectives of organizational culture and environmental performance, we applied a theoretical model in the manufacturing industry of Pakistan linking an organizational culture that supports environmental practices for better environmental performance. Based on a survey of 314 manufacturing firms, using Smart-PLS, the current study found that adaptability, mission and consistency positively affect environmental performance. However, involvement does not have an effect on environmental performance. Additionally, organizational culture as a latent variable has a strong impact on environmental performance. The study is one of the first, to the author’s knowledge that links OC and EP in a developing economy, in this case Pakistan.

Plain concrete pavements under heavy impact loading will induce flexure, crack and direct shear failure. To obtain dynamic response and failure mode of plain concrete pavement under heavy impact loading, the concrete brittle crack model is adopted and finite element model of plain concrete pavements is established; the dynamic response and failure mode under heavy impact loading in different loading points and different loading times are studied; the production, stretching and extension of cracking are researched; which is a powerful reference for practical engineering application.
