In this work we investigate magnetocaloric effect and heat capacity of Gd cold rolled ribbons. Such materials are easy to produce, they are flexible and convenient for using in magnetic cooling devices. It is shown that the magnetocaloric effect is strongly dependent on thickness of the ribbons. Severely rolled ribbons demonstrate rather a small magnetocaloric effect. However, a special heat treatment procedure makes it possible to enhance the effect up to the value observed in polycrystalline Gd.

The specific heat and magnetocaloric effect of the LaFe11.2-хMnxCo0.7Si1.1 intermetallic compounds (x = 0.1, 0.2, 0.3) were measured in the temperature range 80–300 K and in magnetic fields up to 8 T. The magnetocaloric effect (MCE) was estimated using two methods: direct method in cyclic magnetic fields, as well as an indirect method from heat capacity data. It was shown that an increase in the concentration of Mn atoms leads to a shift in the Curie temperature of the TC toward lower temperatures, while the FM value changes slightly.

The direct measurements of the magnetocaloric effect (MCE) and the magnetization for R2Fe17 (R = Y, Tb, Dy) compounds are reported. The maximal values of the MCE for different R2Fe17 compounds are almost the same at the Curie temperature and are equal to 0.8 – 0.85 K at ΛH = 13.5 kOe. The field dependencies of the magnetization and MCE and the dependence of MCE via magnetization deviates from the classical regularities and describes by the thermodynamic theory attracting the higher terms. Obviously the occurrence of the mixed exchange interactions in these compounds leads to the requirement of consideration both thermal and local fluctuations of the exchange integrals near the magnetic transition temperature.

<p>In this work the results of measurements of heat capacity (CP) and magnetocaloric effect (MCE) in Er(Co1-хFeх)2 system in the concentration range 0.07 ≤ x ≤ 0.80 are presented. Phase composition was controlled by X-ray difraction analysis. Heat capacity was measured in the temperature range 77-320 K. MCE has been studied within the temperature range 5-670 K in magnetic fields up to 70 kOe. It was found that Fe concentration increase caused the table-like (plateau) MCE temperature dependence for both magnetic entropy change date and direct ∆T-effect measurements independently on Fe concentration. The possible reasons of such behavior are discussed.</p>
