Nano-Au/C catalysts were obtained by loading the gold nanoparticles which were prepared by photochemical reduction method to the activated carbon, and were used for the catalytic oxidation reaction of glyoxal into glyoxylic acid. The influence of temperature and pH on the catalytic activity, and the mechanism of Au/C catalyst on catalytic oxidation of glyoxal were discussed. The optimum conditions are: the amount ratio of Au: glyoxal is 1:1000; The pH of solution can be controlled between 8.2 to 8.4 by using 1.00 mol/L NaOH solution under 45°C.

The metal–semiconductor composites with unique optical properties are highly desirable. Here we report that Ag–TiO2 nanorod composites with two distinctive absorption peaks exhibit tunable plasmon coupling behaviors. The intensity of the long-wave absorption could be enhanced by modifying the geometry of TiO2 particles, while such absorption is due to the plasmon coupling between the Ag particles. The long-wave absorption bands can be tuned by varying the reaction time and changing the amount of silver acetate. Furthermore, the Ag–TiO2 composites were also prepared by photochemical reduction method which confirmed the previous properties. These results may help to design metal–semiconductor systems with desirable optical properties.

Abstract. The surface plasmon resonance photocatalysts of Ag-AgBr/RGO were synthesized by chemical precipitation and photochemical reduction method. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction and UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy. The photocatalytic activities of catalysts were studied using the photocatalytic degradation of helianthine as a probe reaction. The results showed that the degradation rate of 10 mg/L helianthine reached 95% after 60 min of visible light irradiation.
