Purpose The aim of this study was to compare Basque and Catalan bilinguals' performance on the letter verbal fluency test and determine whether significant differences are present depending on the letters used and the language of administration. Method The sample consisted of 87 Spanish monolinguals, 139 Basque bilinguals, and 130 Catalan bilinguals from Spain. Participants completed the letter verbal fluency test using the letters F, A, S, M, R, P, and E. Results Bilinguals scored higher on the letter verbal fluency test when they were tested in Spanish than in Basque or Catalan. No performance differences were found according to native language or dialects within Basque participants. Catalans with Spanish as their native language scored lower on the letter F compared to those who grew up speaking Catalan and Spanish. The suggested letters to use with Basque speakers are A, E, and B; the suggested letters to use with Catalan speakers are P, F, and M; and the suggested letters to use with Spanish speakers are M, R, and P. Conclusion Selecting appropriate stimuli depending on the language of testing is the first crucial step to assess verbal fluency and thus possible frontal lobe functioning impairment.

Background: The designed circuits are tested for faults detection in fabrication to determine which devices are defective. The design verification is performed to ensure that the circuit performs the required functions after manufacturing. Design verification is regarded as a test form in both sequential and combinational circuits. The analysis of sequential circuits test is more difficult than in the combinational circuit test. However, algorithms can be used to test any type of sequential circuit regardless of its composition. An important sequential circuit is the finite impulse response (FIR) filters that are widely used in digital signal processing applications. Objective: This paper presented a new design under test (DUT) algorithm for 4-and 8-tap FIR filters. Also, the FIR filter and the proposed DUT algorithm is implemented using field programmable gate arrays (FPGA). Method: The proposed test generation algorithm is implemented in VHDL using Xilinx ISE V14.5 design suite and verified by simulation. The test generation algorithm used FIR filtering redundant faults to obtain a set of target faults for DUT. The fault simulation is used in DUT to assess the benefit of test pattern in fault coverage. Results: The proposed technique provides average reductions of 20 % and 38.8 % in time delay with 57.39 % and 75 % reductions in power consumption and 28.89 % and 28.89 % slices reductions for 4- and 8-tap FIR filter, respectively compared to similar techniques. Conclusions: The results of implementation proved that a high speed and low power consumption design can be achieved. Further, the speed of the proposed architecture is faster than that of existing techniques.

AbstractThe design fluency test (DFT) has been reported to predict successful sports performance of soccer players and has therefore been in the spotlight of sport psychology research. There is, however, a lack of research regarding the psychometric properties of the DFT in elite sports. Thus, the aim of this research was to provide findings of test–retest reliability, practice effects and the diagnostic power of the DFT. Multiple studies of youth and adult elite athletes, as well as nonathlete students, were conducted in applied settings. Test–retest relationship demonstrated poor to acceptable short-term and long-term correlations. Furthermore, significant changes between test and retest were obtained in some variables that differed among samples. The differential value of the DFT was corroborated by significant differences between adolescent students and adolescent elite soccer players. Regarding the prospective value, significant partial correlation coefficients were found between DFT scores and volleyball performance in adult elite players. Although our research partially confirmed previous findings on the differential and prospective power of the DFT, the findings on test–retest reliability indicate that the DFT cannot be recommended for application in sports. The psychometric properties—in particular the findings on test–retest reliability—of the DFT have to be improved before research can be carried out on the application for the selection of team sport athletes and for the prediction of future success in team sports. Further research is needed to develop a scientific instrument for the assessment of game intelligence.
