The intergranular properties of ( Y 1-x-y Zr x Ca y) Ba 2 Cu 3 O 7-δ ceramics were studies by using temperature-dependent ac susceptibility measurements at zero dc magnetic field. The intergranular critical current density was determined from ac susceptibility data by varying the field amplitude H ac . From the imaginary part of the complex susceptibility, χ″(T), we have determined the temperature dependence of the critical current density by using the Bean's model. The ac field dependencies of the intergrain χ″-peak temperatures T p are linear and agree with Müller critical state model. The results were analyzed in terms of superconductor-insulator-superconductor (SIS)-and superconductor-normal-superconductor (SNS)-type models for granular superconductors.

The X-ray diffraction (XRD), ac susceptibility, dc resistivity, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) measurements on Bi 2−x Pb x Sr 2 Ca 2 Cu 3 O 10+δ (x = 0.0, 0.2, 0.4, and 0.6) superconductors have been correlated with the Raman scattering studies. Remarkable increases in the transition temperature and percentage volume of high T c phase are found till x = 0.4. Raman spectra also reveal dramatic changes at x = 0.4 in the phonon modes at 625 and 460 cm −1 associated with oxygen vibrations in BiO plane and apical oxygen of CuO 5 pyramid, respectively. The observed changes have been attributed to the phenomenon of oxygen redistribution among various layers. Optimum solubility limit of Pb substitution is found to be x = 0.4.

The introduction of more reactive precursors for Pb and Sr (oxalates), as well as Ca (citrate) and the use of a Bi nitrate decomposition route, has increased the percentage of the high-Tc (2223) phase in the Bi—Sr—Ca—Cu—O (BSCCO) system. Partial substitution of Bi(Pb) with Sb gives an almost single (2223) phase sample. In addition, a single (2212) phase sample is obtained when high purity Bi2O3 is used as a precursor, whereas Bi acetate leads to semiconducting behavior. The morphology of the samples is studied with a scanning electron microscope (SEM), the stoichiometry with energy-dispersive x-ray analysis (EDAX), and the structure with x-ray diffraction (XRD), while the superconducting properties are investigated by dc-resistivity, ac-susceptibility, and SQUID magnetometry techniques.

A comparative studies on anomalous behaviour at Curie point between clay additives Mn-Zn ferrites and other mixed ferrites such as Mn-Zn, Ni-Zn, Mg-Mn and Ni-Mg have been carried out in this investigation. The changes in Tc on compositions, additives and manufacturing processes of such soft mixed ferrites have been determined from the temperature dependent dc resistivity data and the log ρ vs. (1/1000T) graphs. It is observed that the Curie temperature is dependent on compositions, additives, manufacturing process and microstructure. Definite changes of Curie points of clay additives Mn-Zn ferrites with other ferrites were observed. Both the Mn-Zn ferrites and clay additives Mn-Zn ferrites showed some changes in their T sub>c behavior. The T sub>c value of Mn-Zn ferrites with clay additives decreases with increasing additives. In the case of clay substituted Mn-Zn ferrites the decrease of Curie point can be understood by a decrease of the number of Fe3+ magnetic ions substituted by nonmagnetic Al3+ ions on O sites of the system. New Mn12 single-molecule nanomagnets [ Mn 12 O 12( O 2 CCHCl 2)( H 2 O )4]· 2CH 2 Cl 2· H 2 O and [ Mn 12 O 12( O 2 CCHCl 2)( H 2 O )4]· 2CH 3 C 6 H 5· 4H 2 O and novel Mn18 complexes [ M 18 O 14( O 2 CR )18( hmp )4( hmpH )2( H 2 O )2] (R=Me, Et) have been synthesized and characterized by single crystal X-ray crystallography and dc- and ac-magnetic susceptibility measurements. Mn12 complexes show characteristic SMM properties, such as temperature-dependent out-of-phase ac-susceptibility. Mn18 does not show relaxation behaviors down to 2.0 K, but reveals magnetic anisotropy in reduced magnetization experiment.
