The cross-linking density influences the physicochemical properties of cyclodextrin-based nanosponges (CD-NSs). Although the effect of the cross-linker type and content on the NSs performance has been investigated, a detailed study of the cross-linking density has never been performed. In this contribution, nine ester-bridged NSs based on β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) and different quantities of pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA), used as a cross-linking agent in stoichiometric proportions of 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 moles of PMDA for each mole of CD, were synthesized and characterized in terms of swelling and rheological properties. The results, from the swelling experiments, exploiting Flory–Rehner theory, and rheology, strongly showed a cross-linker content-dependent behavior. The study of cross-linking density allowed to shed light on the efficiency of the synthesis reaction methods. Overall, our study demonstrates that by varying the amount of cross-linking agent, the cross-linked structure of the NSs matrix can be controlled effectively. As PMDA βCD-NSs have emerged over the years as a highly versatile class of materials with potential applications in various fields, this study represents the first step towards a full understanding of the correlation between their structure and properties, which is a key requirement to effectively tune their synthesis reaction in view of any specific future application or industrial scale-up.

Some 2’-hydroxychalcone analogues have been widely used as an intermediate to synthesize various heterocyclic compounds, such as flavanones, flavanonols, flavones, flavonols and others. The heterocyclic compounds are also known to have a variety of interesting bioactivities in the medicinal chemistry and also have potency to be applied  in material chemistry including in industry. Therefore, 2’-hydroxychalcone analogues are often synthesized by researchers as intermediate, both in research associated with drug discovery and material synthesis. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of microwave irradiation power variations on the selectivity of reaction of 2’-hydroxychalcone analogue synthesis. The variations of power that have been used in this study were 100, 180, 300 and 450 W with using a domestic microwave. Based on the study, we conclude that the power variation of microwave irradiationwere proven to effect the selectivity of synthesis reaction. In this study, the most suitable irradiation power to be applied on this synthesis is 180 W.

The conditions of the laser-enhanced synthesis reaction of silicon carbide nanoparticles are determined and the nanoparticles are characterized. The gas-phase reaction of laser synthesis of SiC particles is observed at SiH4/C2H2 flow ratio in the range of 1.6-3.2. The temperature in the reaction zone was ~1400--1500ºC. Silicon carbide nanoparticles ~6 nm in diameter are produced and their composition is studied.
