The large deformation at cryogenic temperature would be one of the effective methods to produce large bulk UFG materials. The effects of annealing temperature on microstructure and mechanical properties of the sheets received 85% reduction at cryogenic temperature were investigated for the annealing temperature of 150 ~ 300°C , in comparison with those at room temperature. Annealing of 5083 Al alloy deformed 85%, at 200°C for an hour, results in the considerable increase of tensile elongation without the great loss of strength and the occurrence of equiaxed grains less than 300nm in diameter.

Abstract Cu-7%Al alloy subjected to equal channel angular pressing at cryogenic temperature with liquid nitrogen cooling (Cryo-ECAP)was treated by annealing. The microstructure and mechanical properties of Cu-7%Al alloy before and after annealing were investigated. It shows that a large number of annealing twins formed in Cu-7%Al alloy subjected to Cryo-ECAP. After 300∘C and 0.5 h annealing in Cu-7%Al alloy processed by Cryo-ECAP, tensile strength and uniform elongation was increased up to 644 MPa and 7.6% respectively. The enhanced mechanical properties of Cu-7%Al alloy after annealing is attributed to the high density nanoscale twins.

The microstructures and mechanical properties of cold upsetting magnesium alloys were investigated upon anneal under different conditions. The results show that a large amount of twins were observed in the original grains of cold upsetting AZ31 magnesium alloys. The twins disappeared gradually and recrystal grains formed after anneal. The volume fraction of the recrystal grains increases as the strain of samples rises. Recrystal grain size grows large with the elevated annealing temperature. Recrystal grain size reduces at first and then grows as the annealing time is prolonged. In addition, compared with as-cast magnesium alloys, the yield strength of cold upsetting samples increase apparently due to grain refinement after anneals.

The effect of annealing temperature on microstructures and mechanical properties of 1000MPa grade cold rolling steel was studied under the condition of ultra-fast cooling in the present investigation. The component of the experimental steel has been designed and the carbon content is 0.13%[wt]. A small amount of V and Nb were added to the steel. Simulated annealing steel experiment has been carried out in the laboratory condition. The experimental steel was heated to 780°C, 800°C, 820°C, 840°C, 860°C for 80s, then slowly cooled to 680°C, and finally water quenched to room temperature. The aging temperature was 240°C(for 240s) and then the steel was air cooled to room temperature. Using optical microscope, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and tensile testing machine to analyze and test the microstructures and properties of the steel after annealing process. The result showed that the microstructures of the annealed steel was martensite and ferrite, and when the annealing temperature was 820°C, the tensile strength could reach 999MPa, elongation could reach 13.3%. It was easy to see that the tensile strength increased and the elongation decreased with the increase of annealing temperature.
