Entropy generation in bioconvection two-dimensional steady incompressible non-Newtonian Oldroyd-B nanofluid with Cattaneo–Christov heat and mass flux theory is investigated. The Darcy–Forchheimer law is used to study heat and mass transfer flow and microorganisms motion in porous media. Using appropriate similarity variables, the partial differential equations are transformed into ordinary differential equations which are then solved by homotopy analysis method. For an insight into the problem, the effects of various parameters on different profiles are shown in different graphs.

Ukrainian folk music has been embedded into much of the classical music we hear. Mykola Leontovych and Peter Wilhousky are credited for the ever-famous piece Carol of the Bells, an arrangement of a Ukrainian Epiphany carol called Shchedryk (Щедрик). Despite the applicability of Ukrainian folk-inspired music in our society, people are generally unaware of its origin. In fact, researcher Yakov Soroker provides evidence of Ukrainian folk inspiration in various classical pieces being misclassified as Russian, Polish, and/or Hungarian. Ukrainian classical music, for many reasons pertaining to its unstable history, is not well known outside Ukraine and, therefore, is rarely discussed. This has limited potential insights it might bring to those who have interest in its place in Western music. My research explores the influence that Ukrainian folk traditions have had on contemporary classical music. My research has come from gathering and sifting through historical literature about the origins of classical, Ukrainian classical, Ukrainian folk, and other folk music works. I have also listened to selected works and examined the critiques of experts to form conclusions about how composers today have been influenced, knowingly or otherwise, by Ukrainian folk music. Going one step further, in order to provide a deeper, practical insight into the creative process of composers who have been influenced by Ukrainian folk music, I have composed a piece of my own influenced by Ukrainian folklore.

Abstract In order to evaluate the effect of precursors and synthesis strategies on catalytic ability of Mo2C in the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), four kinds of Mo2C were synthesized using two kinds of MoO3 by two strategies. Compared with the one-step direct carbonization strategy, Mo2C with a large special surface area and a better performance could be synthesized by the two-step strategy composed of a nitridation reaction and a carbonization reaction. Additionally, the as-prepared porous Mo2C nanobelts (NBs) exhibit good electrocatalytic performance with a small overpotential of 165 mV (0.5 M H2SO4) and 124 mV (1 M KOH) at 10 mA cm-2, as well as a Tafel slope of 58 mV dec-1 (0.5 M H2SO4) and 59 mV dec-1 (1 M KOH). The excellent catalytic activity is ascribed to the nano crystallites and porous structure. What’s more, the belt structure also facilitates the charge transport in the materials during the electrocatalytic HER process. Therefore, the two-step strategy provides a new insight into the structural design with superior performance for electrocatalytic HER.

The mass loss from cataclysmic binaries seems an important and worth studying phenomenon for a number of reasons. It is probably enough to mention only two of them:(a) Whenever we can directly observe the ejected material, determine its amount and the rate of mass loss, as well as its chemical composition (this being the case of the expanding envelopes of novae), we are getting a good insight into the basic physical mechanisms responsible for the observed phenomena.(b) The mass loss (together with the mass transfer) and the loss of the orbital angular momentum are related directly to the dynamical evolution of a binary system and - indirectly - to the evolution of its components.

Abstract Activated carbon/CuO (AC/CuO) composites was prepared through a facile one-step hydrothermal method and used as a bifunctional material for adsorption and catalysis degradation of bisphenol A (BPA). The composite was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and X-ray powder diffraction (XRD). The obtained AC/CuO exhibited excellent adsorption and catalytic performance. The maximum adsorption capacity of BPA on the AC/CuO was 319.03 mg/g according to the Langmuir fitting. At an initial BPA concentration of 20 mg/L, the BPA degradation efficiencies were maintained above 96% for 15 min by using 20 mg/L AC/CuO and 2 mM peroxymonosulfate (PMS). Moreover, the relationship between adsorption and catalytic degradation was also investigated. The results indicated that the pre-adsorption disfavored the degradation reaction. This work not only provides a novel preparation method for AC/CuO catalyst, but also gives a deeper insight into the mechanisms between adsorption and catalytic degradation.
