Abstract Introduction Magseed is a novel localization technology in which a tiny seed is inserted to accurately mark the site of breast tumour. These can be detected intra-operatively by sentimag localization system. It aids localization of impalpable breast lesions improving margin clearance rates. Method A prospective study of first fifty Magseed localised breast tumour and axillary node excisions in Clatterbridge General Hospital. Results A total of 50 patients had 52 Magseed inserted. n = 14 was symptomatic, n = 35 was screen detected and n = 1 was an incidental finding on surveillance mammogram for a B3 lesion. 30 seeds were inserted on the right and 22 were inserted on the left (two were bilateral). 44 seeds were inserted under ultrasound guidance and the rest were targeted under stereo guidance (n = 8). Deployment of two resulted in malposition requiring wire localization. Mean age of subjects was 59.76 (range 31-81) years. Mean time to surgery after magseed insertion was 8.04 (range 1-27) days. Mean weight of the specimen was 48.57(range 10-264) gm. Mean size of the lesions was 20.32 (range 8-65) mm. Redo surgery for margin clearance was performed bringing the re-excision rate to 15.38% (n = 8). Conclusions We conclude that Magseed localization of breast tumours is a safe and reliable technique

Abstract Background Aim of the study is to evaluate the role of ultrasound guided fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) in the restaging of node positive breast cancer after preoperative systemic therapy (PST). Methods From January 2016 – October 2020 106 node positive stage IIA-IIIC breast cancer cases undergoing PST were included in the study. 18 (17 %) were carriers of pathogenic variant in BRCA1/2. After PST restaging of axilla was performed with ultrasound and FNAC of the marked and/or the most suspicious axillary node. In 72/106 cases axilla conserving surgery and in 34/106 cases axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) was performed. Results False Positive Rate (FPR) of FNAC after PST in whole cohort and BRCA1/2 positive subgroup is 8 and 0 % and False Negative Rate (FNR) – 43 and 18 % respectively. Overall Sensitivity − 55 %, specificity- 93 %, accuracy 70 %. Conclusion FNAC after PST has low FPR and is useful to predict residual axillary disease and to streamline surgical decision making regarding ALND both in BRCA1/2 positive and negative subgroups. FNR is high in overall cohort and FNAC alone are not able to predict ypCR and omission of further axillary surgery. However, FNAC performance in BRCA1/2 positive subgroup is more promising and further research with larger number of cases is necessary to confirm the results.

Background Breast cancer is a significant cause of mortality and morbidity worldwide, although death rates in the United States and some other countries are beginning to fall. Methods Several sources of information in 1998, including publications and presentations at the 1998 meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, are pertinent to contemporary breast cancer care. Results It is now possible to prescribe hormonal therapy that will reduce the incidence of breast cancer. Methods are available to reduce the morbidity from axillary node dissection, and improvements in adjuvant therapy and management of metastatic breast cancer are now at hand. Conclusions The information presented provides a broad-based platform for new standards of care for breast cancer that will serve as a sound base for further progress in this important disease.

Abdominal ultrasound examinations (AUEs) are commonly used in the diagnostic evaluation of canine acute pancreatitis (AP). The purpose of this retrospective study was to evaluate and monitor the ultrasonographic changes observed in dogs with clinically suspected AP on consecutive AUEs. The study population was constituted by 38 client-owned dogs hospitalized for no less than 48 h from January 2016 to December 2019. Dogs included in this study were suspected of AP based on the clinical examination and abnormal rapid specific canine pancreatic lipase test performed at admission. Dogs were submitted to two AUEs, the first on the first day of hospitalization, and the second between 40–52 h after the first one. Twelve dogs had both AUEs suggestive of AP. Fourteen dogs received an ultrasonographic diagnosis of AP exclusively on the second AUE. Twelve dogs remained negative on both the first and the second AUE. In 26 out of 38 patients the second AUE was suggestive of AP. If a patient is suspected of AP, it is advisable to carry out ultrasonographic monitoring at least within the first 52 h after admission, since ultrasonographic signs of AP may only become observable later after hospitalization.
