Abstract Objectives The study was conducted to evaluate patient satisfaction and view quality of care and completed nutrition care services they received before and after bariatric surgery. Methods A survey was conducted using a self-completed questionnaire and was administered to bariatric patients. Survey assessed patients’ decision-making for bariatric surgery, patients’ view of their experience of the received nutrition care and the empowerment to follow the prescribed plan. Results Thirty-five patients (30 female and 4 males) completed the questionnaire. The majority of patients were Saudi national (88.6%, n = 31). More patients were holding a university degree (65.7%, n = 23). Bariatric surgery preferences was mostly selected by patients (88.6%, n = 31) with no shared decision-making with surgeons or family members. The decision to undergo bariatric surgery was more likely to be related to health risks issues (65.7%, n = 23) and not for beauty purposes. Patients (34.3%, n = 12) never be seen by a dietitian either before or after surgery, 20%, n = 7 were only seen before surgery or after surgery (17%, n = 6). Nutritional care plans were well explained by a dietitian (RD) to 77.8% of patients (n = 21),13% (n = 3) reported that RDs’ answers to their queries were confusing. Patients 85% (n = 23) find Rds as very cooperative and interactive when manage and plan their nutritional needs. Delivered information are clear and understandable by 87% of patients and all responded patients felt that they were treated with respect by dietitians. Nearly 61% (n = 17) reported that RDs’ involvement in their nutrition care was excellent and 57.1% had excellent overall experience. Twelve patients reported seeing a dietitian throughout their treatment. However, 6 of them saw the dietitian once every month and the rest used to see the dietitian once every 3 months. Conclusions The decision makers including and all Rds will benefit from the results of this study to improve the outcome measures of dietetics services in the scope of bariatric surgery. Abstract Background Health fluctuations even within a single day are typical in multiple sclerosis (MS), but are not captured by widely used questionnaires like the EQ-5D-5L. This exploratory study aimed to develop an ambulatory assessment (AA) version of the EQ-5D-5L (EQ-5D-AA) where patients rate their health on mobile phones multiple times per day over several days, and to assess its feasibility and face validity. Methods An initial EQ-5D-AA version was based on two patient focus groups. It was then tested and continuously developed in an iterative process: patients completed it over several days, followed by debriefing interviews. Findings were used to refine the EQ-5D-AA, with the resulting version being tested by the subsequent wave of patients until participants declared no need for changes anymore. Before and after the AA period, participants completed the standard paper-based EQ-5D-5L asking about ‘today’. Results Focus group participants reported that their impairments often fluctuated between and within days. They regarded an AA with three assessments per day over seven days most appropriate; assessment should be retrospective to the previous assessment, but not all items should be assessed at each time point. Four waves of AA testing were conducted. Thirteen out of the 17 participants preferred the AA over standard assessment as they regarded it more informative, but not too burdensome. Conclusion The newly developed one-week AA of the EQ-5D-5L captures within-day and day-to-day health fluctuations in people with MS. From the patients’ perspective, it is a feasible and face valid way to provide important information beyond what is captured by the standard EQ-5D-5L.

OBJECTIVE: To identify elderly who are victims of falls, according to gender, who received care from prehospital services of Maringá, Paraná. METHODS: A cross-sectional exploratory study carried out with 1,444 elderly patients who suffered falls in Maringá in the period from 2006 to 2008. Data were gathered from prehospital care services, typed and processed using the Epi Info 6.04d(r). The χ² test was used to compare the falls in relation to gender (significance level = 0.05). RESULTS: The number of falls according to gender presented similar percentages, 51.0% for males and 49.0% for females. Significant differences between genders were observed regarding age (p < 0.001), presence of alcohol breath (p < 0.001), type of fall (p < 0.001), place of fall (p < 0.001), treatment at hospital (p = 0.023), number of injuries (p = 0.014), type of injury (p < 0.001) and injury location (p <0.001). CONCLUSION: These results show that falls happen differently among the elderly when considering gender. It highlights the importance of understanding these differences in detail and the circumstances in which the fall occurred, since this knowledge is key to plan preventive actions.

The provision of nutrition care process (NCP) in diabetes mellitus (DM) patients is very important in determining the patient's diet to control blood glucose and to prevent complications. This study aimed to determine the diff erences in levels of intake and blood glucose levels before and after the implementation of NCP for type 2 DM (T2DM) inpatients of RSUD Dr. Saiful Anwar Malang. The design of this study was cross sectional, using secondary data sources from 32 patient medical records consisting of data on age, gender, nutritional status, complications of disease, nutritional diagnosis, nutritional intervention, energy intake, and blood glucose level. The analysis test used was the T-test dependent test on the normal data distribution and the Wilxocon test on the abnormal data distribution. The results of this study indicate a diff erence in the level of after and before intake (p = 0.020) with an increase in the average intake of 65.75 ± 18.23% to 75.50 ± 17.69% of the total energy needs. The analysis of blood glucose before and after showed p = 0.023, which means that there were diff erences in blood glucose before and after the NCP implementation. Blood glucose results showed an average decrease of 205 ± 93.85 mg/dl to 155.9 ± 50.53 mg/dl. The results of this study showed that there were diff erences in levels of energy intake and blood glucose levels before and after the provision of NCP by dietitians/nutritionists.

Background Multiple factors have been reported to affect adherence to medication, including beliefs about medicines, while specifically tailored pharmaceutical care services for patients may improve adherence. The aim was to assess the impact of counselling by an oncology pharmacist on patients' medication adherence and beliefs. Methods An interventional prospective study was performed in the oncology department at a tertiary hospital in Northern Cyprus from November 2017 to April 2018. The Beliefs about Medicines Questionnaire was used to evaluate the balance between beliefs about necessity and concerns and medication beliefs before and after an educational intervention. The Morisky Green Levine Test 2018 was used to evaluate adherence. Results In total, 81 patients (65.4% females; mean age: 59.1 ± 11.34 years; 34.6% hypertensive; 19.8% with diabetes) were analysed before and after receiving counselling from an oncology pharmacist. Pharmacist education significantly enhanced the mean patient necessity-concern balance scores by two-fold (MT0(baseline) = −3.1 ± 8.6; MT1(posteducation) =3.0 ± 7.3; p < 0.0001), with patients who received counselling for the first time experiencing the greatest benefit. Multivariate analysis showed that patients who had a negative balance between their beliefs about the necessity of the medication and their concerns were less likely to adhere to the medication (0.138 (0.025–0.772)). Conclusion Counselling by an oncology pharmacist was effective in decreasing patient concerns and increasing their understanding of the necessity of the medication, thus enhancing their adherence and consequently improving the care they received.

The growth of Internet-distributed TV services has transformed video consumption, enhancing the level of control that viewers have over what they watch. Along with the release of entire seasons of programming at once, this has led to the phenomenon of ‘binge-watching’, in which several episodes of a program are viewed in one sitting. This article presents the results of a novel exploratory study focused on 40 Netflix viewing sessions from 11 millennials in their homes. Methodologically, we employed a novel mixed-methods approach that combines objective data (collected through a browser extension) and subjective data (collected via questionnaires completed before and after viewing). This novel approach allowed us to describe the binge-watcher’s experience in a holistic fashion. Results suggest that binge-watching is an individual activity mainly performed at the end of the day to relax, for boredom relief purposes, or for escapism. Furthermore, a binge-watching session lasts for an average of 2 h and 10 min, and variations on binge-watchers’ affective states were identified after Netflix exposure. Participants’ levels of valence (unhappy–happy) significantly decreased after binge-watching; their positive affect values increased primarily after watching sci-fi, while their negative affect values decreased after watching comedy and slightly increased after watching drama. However, the levels of arousal (relaxed–stimulated) remained the same. This study extends our current understanding of binge-watching in terms of viewer motivations, how it affects their viewing experiences, and participants’ subjective affective states. The investigation contributes, thus, to a relatively new domain of research concerned with the understanding of binge-watching behavior of serialized TV fiction.

Background: The quality of care perceived by the users of health care services is an important indicator of the quality of care. The aim of this study was to assess the satisfaction of patients received in obstetric and gynecological emergencies department of Yalgado Ouedraogo Teaching Hospital before and after the introduction of free care.Methods: This was a cross-sectional investigation. Data collection was carried out from February to July 2016, covering the last three months before the start of free care and the first three months of implementation of this free policy in Burkina Faso.Results: A total of 620 patients formed the sample. The reception (p=0.0001), the waiting period (p=0.0001), respect for treatment schedules (p=0.0001), respect for intimacy (p=0.0001), communication between providers and patients (p=0.007), the comfort of the delivery room (p=0.003) and the comfort of the ward room (p=0.002) were more favorably appreciated by patients before the free treatment than during that period. Overall patient satisfaction was better before the effectiveness of free care (p=0.003).Conclusions: The realization of free care process was followed by a lower patient’s satisfaction reflecting an alteration in the quality of health care services. A situational analysis of this free health care process is necessary in order to make corrective measures. Also adequate preventive measures should be adopted before any implementation to a larger scale of this free policy.
