The requirements for a special approach for the quality assessment of small high-speed centrifugal fans are outlined and a new parameter designating the noise levels from the product in comprehensive form will be discussed and described as a criterion for such quality assessment.By applying techniques of signal processing and condition monitoring, the sources of the vibration and noise in different sections of the product can be identified, then the noise from each source from different components can be determined. Using this criterion, more aspects of the quality of the products can be assessed and suggestions to improve the quality of the products can be made. Finally, the assessment of a number ofvacuum cleaner motor/fan units available in the commercial market will be presented and compared with conventional specifications. It will be shown that the new parameter provides a more useful indication of appliance quality.

The continuous development of information and telecommunication technologies has led to the possibility of transferring data and information between people in real time, in just a few seconds, which has led to the emergence of new approaches to data collection. An example is crowdsourcing (networked mass of people), which involves collecting a large amount of defined data from a large number (mass) of people through the Internet, that is, embedded sensors in smart devices. These are most often mobile phones and then it is about the concept of mobile crowdsourcing – which is more widely accepted under the term crowdsensing. This paper shows how smart devices (mobile phones or tablets) can collect vibration data that occur while driving in road traffic – and still be used to detect irregularities in road infrastructure (potholes, bumps, etc.) in real conditions.

AbstractThere is a need to assess the quality being achieved for laboratory examinations that are being utilized to support evidence-based clinical guidelines. Application of Six Sigma concepts and metrics can provide an objective assessment of the current analytical quality of different examination procedures.A “Sigma Proficiency Assessment Chart” can be constructed for data obtained from proficiency testing and external quality assessment surveys to evaluate the observed imprecision and bias of method subgroups and determine quality on the Sigma scale.Data for hemoglobin AAssessment of quality on the Sigma scale provides evidence of the analytical performance that is being achieved relative to requirements for intended use and should be useful for identifying and prioritizing improvements that are needed in the analytical quality of laboratory examinations. SummaryThis paper provides estimation and hypothesis testing procedures for experiments in split-plot designs. These experiments have been shown to have a convenient orthogonal block structure when properly randomized. Due to this property, the analysis of experimental data can be carried out in a relatively simple manner. Relevant simplification procedures are indicated. According to the adopted approach, the analysis of variance and hypothesis testing procedures can be performed directly, rather than by combining the results of analyses based on some stratum submodels. The practical application of the presented theory is illustrated by examples of real experiments in appropriate split-plot designs. The present paper is the fourth in the planned series of publications on the analysis of experiments with orthogonal block structure.
