Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) has gained popularity in the wine sector due to its simplicity and ability to provide a wine’s fingerprint. For this reason, it is often used for authentication and traceability purposes with more than satisfactory results. In this review, an outline of the reasons why authenticity and traceability are important to the wine sector is given, along with a brief overview of the analytical methods used for their attainment; statistical issues and compounds, on which authentication usually is based, are discussed. Moreover, insight on the mode of action of FT-IR is given, along with successful examples from its use in different areas of interest for classification. Finally, prospects and challenges for suggested future research are given. For more accurate and effective analyses, the construction of a large database consisting of wines from different regions, varieties and winemaking protocols is suggested.

At the present time the use of reliable control methods to ensure the labeled quality of food is task for organizations that have to limit or eliminate the falsification. The presentation describes the results of common analytical methods, NIR spectrometry and FT-IR spectrometry applied to cocoa powder. The two spectrometric techniques are statistically processed that allows discrimination of authentic and fraudulent cocoa powder samples.

AbstractThis work focuses on using analytical methods, such as Fourier transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with mass spectrometry (MS) detection to assess archaeological and geological amber. The main goal of this study is to apply the previously developed and optimized analytical methods in verifying criteria to ascribe and characterize the origin of materials found in archaeological sites. The proposed LC-MS method was successfully applied for the quantification of succinic acid content both in geological and archaeological samples of amber and offers excellent linearity between 0.1 and 5µg mL−1. The developed FTIR method provided some criteria which is able to differentiate between Baltic and Romanian amber (Romanite) that furthermore validates on archaeological amber artefacts.

A series of new 7-substitued-4H-1,3,4-thiadiazolo[2,3-c][1,2,4]- triazin-4-oneswere synthesized in good yields by the reaction of 4-amino-3- mercapto-1,2,4-triazin-5(4H)-one with various aromatic carboxylic acids in the presence of phosphorus oxychloride. All the synthesized compounds were confirmed by FT-IR, NMR (1H and 13C), ESI-MS spectroscopic techniques and analytical methods.

Context: Current review focuses on the importance of pharmaceutical analytical techniques in the diagnosis of diabetes and the study of antidiabetic drugs. Objective: The main objective of the review is to compile the different analytical tools such as UV-spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS), gas chromatography (GC)-MS, and electrophoresis that are used to diagnose diabetes using different analytical methods. It also attempts to provide information on the assay of antidiabetic drugs by various analytical techniques and thus helps in the development of novel methods for the study of newer drugs molecules having antidiabetic activity. Methods: The blood sample is subjected to centrifugation to collect the serum before any analytical estimation of antidiabetic drugs. The different types of diabetes were diagnosed using various analytical techniques such as UV-spectroscopy, FT-IR, NMR, LC-MS, GC-MS, and electrophoresis. Results: Different analytical methods that were reported in the literature, were succinctly discussed about the quantification of various antidiabetic drugs. These methods were also employed for the determination of antidiabetic drugs in the research field for the study of actives pharmaceutical ingredients, marketing dosage forms, and post-marketed dosage forms. Conclusion: This review is compiled in such a manner such that it helps the analysts to diagnose diabetes using different analytical techniques and also to study various antidiabetic drugs in the pharmaceutical research field. It also attempts to provide information about different active pharmaceutical ingredients, marketing dosage forms, and post-marketed dosage forms.

Η ωρίμανση του οίνου είναι μια πολύπλοκη διαδικασία που περιλαμβάνει πολυάριθμες χημικές αντιδράσεις οι οποίες τελικά επηρεάζουν την ποιότητά του. Οι αντιδράσεις αυτές σχετίζονται άμεσα με τον τύπο του μέσου που έρχεται σε επαφή με τον οίνο, αλλά και με τη διάρκεια της ωρίμανσης. Καθώς δεν υπάρχει κάποια χημική ανάλυση που να παρέχει απαντήσεις σχετικά με τον βέλτιστο χρόνο ωρίμανσης, η απόφαση αυτή βασίζεται κυρίως στο βαθμό αύξησης της στυπτικότητας του οίνου, ενώ η διάρκεια ωρίμανσης, το είδος και τα χαρακτηριστικά του περιέκτη ωρίμανσης σε πολλές χώρες ρυθμίζεται από τη νομοθεσία. Ο σκοπός αυτής της διατριβής ήταν να αξιολογηθεί η πιθανότητα χρήσης της φασματοσκοπίας υπερύθρου με μετασχηματισμό Fourier (FT-IR) στον έλεγχο αυθεντικότητας οίνων ανάλογα με το είδος του περιέκτη και το χρόνου ωρίμανσης, και παράλληλα να γίνει περισσότερο κατανοητός ο τρόπος με τον οποίο το είδος του περιέκτη επηρεάζει την αίσθηση στυπτικότητας. H φασματοσκοπία υπερύθρου με μετασχηματισμό Fourier έχει αποδείξει ότι αποτελεί σημαντικό εργαλείο σε μελέτες κατηγοριοποίησης, ενώ επίσης είναι απλή και οικονομική μέθοδος, γεγονός που την καθιστά πολύ ελκυστική για χρήση στην ανάλυση του οίνου. Στην παρούσα μελέτη, η FT-IR χρησιμοποιήθηκε για τη δημιουργία μοντέλων υπολογισμού με τα οποία θα μπορούσαν να προβλεφθούν σημαντικές παράμετροί του οίνου, όπως η συγκέντρωση ελλαγιταννινών ή η χημική του ηλικία. Σχετικά με την στυπτικότητα, αναπτύχθηκε ένα χρήσιμο εργαλείο το οποίο συνδέει την αίσθηση αυτή με τους διάφορους τύπους μονομερών που απαρτίζουν τις ταννικές αλυσίδες, ενώ ο μέσος Βαθμός Πολυμερισμού (mDP) λευκών οίνων υπολογίστηκε για πρώτη φορά. Συμπερασματικά, η FT-IR μπορεί να είναι ένα πολύτιμο εργαλείο καθώς μπορεί να παρακολουθήσει την εξέλιξη του οίνου κατά την ωρίμανση με έναν πιο ολοκληρωμένο τρόπο.

Abstract An efficient and heterogeneous novel Dy complex of balsalazide, trapped between the functionalized halloysite and g-C3N4, was successfully synthesized by post-synthetic modification approach (Dy@Hal-BS-g-C3N4). It was characterized by several advanced analytical methods including, FT-IR, SEM, EDX, elemental mapping, XRD, ICP-OES and TGA. The as-synthesized material was catalytically explored as a novel recoverable nanocatalyst in the synthesis of an array of biologically active pyran derivatives, i.e., the 2-amino-5,10-dioxo-4-aryl-5,10-dihydro-4H-benzo[g]chromene-3-carbonitriles. Excellent yields of the desired products and facile reusability of the catalyst are the two advantageous factors in the introduction of this novel catalytic system.
