A dense and uniform Si p / LG 5 composite were fabricated by squeeze casting technology, and high temperature diffusion treatment was adapted to the composite. Microstructure observation indicated that Si transformed from irregular particles to 3D-structure. Fine dispersive precipitates Si were also observed on Si - Al interface and within Al matrix, smoothing and improving the interface. Based on the microstructure observation, three transformation stages were designated: melting, dissolution and precipitation, solidification. Thermodynamics and kinetics of the transformation can be explained by Gibbs-Thomson effect.
