Studies of species assemblages and community structure are of vital importance in the deep-sea realm. Data for the present study were collected during the research expedition of FORV ‘Sagar Sampada’ in the latitude 8.02°N and 11.58°N, longitude 74.16°E and 78.35°E. High Speed Demersal Trawl – Crustacean Version (HSDT-CV) was used for the operations at a depth of 200 and 1000 m. The total catch came to 2148.35 kg from 10 stations. An analysis of the catch composition was made. Total catch was dominated by Priacanthus hamrur (27.66%) followed by Neoepinnula orientalis (15.57%), Psenopsis cyanea (10.05%), Glyptophidium oceanium (3.55%), Lamprogrammus niger (3.17%), Narcine timlei (3.08%), Lamprogrammus sp. (2.6%), Pterigotrygla hemisticta (2.17%). About 76 species recorded from 22 orders were identified. The diversity indices, Cluster analysis, k-dominance plot were analysed using PRIMER v6 software. The diversity indices including Margalef richness index (d), Shanon index (log e2), Pielou's evenness index (J′) and Simpson diversity index (1 − λ) were calculated. Diversity indices were compared with the previous studies in the same area, and this can be a reference point for future studies.

According to a survey of benthos in the Laoting sea area of Hebei Province on May 24th 2019, a total of 40 benthos species were obtained, of which mollusks have the largest number, followed by annelids and arthropods. The dominant species are Sternaspis sculata and Ringicula doliaris. The number of species obtained in this survey is much lower than the historical average. The diversity index is significantly lower than that in the April 2008 survey, and the evenness index and richness index have declined slightly, indicating that the benthic community structure in this sea area tends to be simplistic, stability tends to deteriorate.

A study on Echinoderms community structure in marine national parks of Wakatobi, Southeast Sulawesi was conducted in six locations, i.e., Waha Beach, Coastal Sombo, Beach Houses, Beach Kapota, Banakawa beach, and Umala beach in October 2013. All of the six parks were located the Wakatobi territorial waters with coordinates of 5°06'25" S and 123°124'10 E. The results showed of 18 species of echinoderms representing six different types of Asteroidea, two types of Ophiuroidea, six types of Echinoidea, and four types of Holothuroidea. Group of starfish or Asteroidea was the most prominent on seagrass area. Based on the six transects sites, it turned out that the group of starfish (Asteridea) occupied a relatively high level of species richness. From the quantitative analysis values, we obtained diversity index (H) of 1.105 in Sombu, the highest evenness index (J) of 0.989 was found in Umala, and the highest species richness index values (D) of 0.132 was obtained in kapota. It seemed that all echinoderm groups were generally like seagrass microhabitat (12 types). While, sand and dead coral habitats were only occupied by 8 (eight) echinoderm groups. Bosten Lake was the largest inland freshwater lake in China. It is facing with a series of ecological problems nowadays. The phytoplankton and water samples of seventeen sampling sites in Bosten Lake were collected in September 2012. Results show that sixty-four species (genera) of phytoplankton, which belong to six phyla, are identified. The community structure of phytoplankton is dominated by Chlorophyta. The mean cell density of phytoplankton in whole lake is 8179.01×104cells·L-1 and Cyanophyta accounts for 94.71%. The dominant species are Chroococcus sp. and Synedra acus. In terms of Shannon-Wiener diversity index, Margalef richness index, Pielou evenness index and total nitrogen content, it is ascertained that trophic state of water body in Estuary and Pumping Station is between mesotrophication and eutrophication. While in the other districts, the water body is eutrophic. In addition, the eutrophic degree of water body in District IV is higher.

Abstract. Muzaki FK, Setiawan E, Insany GFA, Dewi NK, Subagio IB. 2019. Community structure of Echinoderms in seagrass beds of Pacitan beaches, East Java, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 20: 1787-1793. In this study, we attempt to access diversity and community structure of Echinoderms on seagrass beds in each three belt transect (width 2 m, length 100 m) in Tawang and Pidakan beaches, Pacitan, East Java, Java. Observed parameters were species richness, composition, and abundance, as well as diversity indices: Shannon-Wiener's diversity index (H'), Simpson's dominance index (D) and Pielou's evenness index (J). At the end of the study, we identified one species of sea star (Asteroidea), seven species of brittle stars (Ophiuroidea), ten species of sea cucumbers (Holothuroidea) andnine species of sea urchins (Echinoidea). The most dominant species were Ophiocoma dentata (F. Ophiocomidae), Diadema setosum (F. Diadematiidae), Ophiomastix annulosa (F. Ophiocomidae) and Echinometra mathaei (F. Echinometridae). Value of H’ ranged from 0.538 to 1.252 in Tawang and 1.041 to 1.704 in Pidakan; which showing higher species richness and diversity in Pidakan. Echinoderm in the study area was not evenly distributed; D. setosum was very dominant in Tawang beach, while those three other species were more common in Pidakan. Furthermore, most of Holothuroid and Ophiuroid were found only in Pidakan which have relatively more complex habitat.

There is paucity of studies relating to fish corral fishery and its management particularly those operated on reef flats. This study was conducted to evaluate the fish catch composition of fish corrals situated in the reef flat of Palompon, Leyte from July 2009 to January 2010. During the monitoring, two sets of data were utilized: the semimonthly field intercept samplings and the daily fish landing data. Field intercept samplings enabled the researchers to approach fishers as they were gathering their fish catch that was eventually identified, sorted, measured, and weighed. Fish landing data recorded by local enumerators included the fish’s local name and corresponding weight. From 27 fish corrals, the intercept samplings yielded a total catch of 23.9 kg, which was composed of 81 identified species under 47 genera from 31 families. The most abundant family was Siganidae comprising 44% of the total catch, followed by Apogonidae (18%) and Pomacentridae (9%). This composition was corroborated by the fish landed data. The temporal and spatial trends of the catch composition showed that Fam. Siganidae was most abundant in the months of July, October, and December, while Apogonidae in the months of August and November. It was observed that there was an unequal spatial distribution of fish species in the study area. Of the four sampling areas, Area 2 on the northeastern part of Palompon was the most diverse due partly to the high number of fish corral units and the area’s structural complexity wherein seagrass and algal beds were most extensive interspersed with coral patches. Results of this study could serve as reference for future studies dealing with monitoring and managing fish corral fishery.

Watu Joglo is one of the caves located in the row of the Sewu mountains, Gunung Kidul, Special Regency of Yogyakarta. Watu Joglo has various suitable microhabitats for herpetofauna. So far, the study about herpetofauna’s community structure and distribution has not been carried out in Watu Joglo. This study aimed to study and map the diversity, richness, evenness, and distribution of herpetofauna in Watu Joglo. Herpetofauna’s data sampling was carried out for three days. The study was conducted on 6-8 April 2018. The data of herpetofauna community were analyzed with Shannon-Wiener diversity index, Margalef richness index, and Pielou Evenness Index. The data of herpetofauna distribution were mapped and analyzed with Avenza and ArcGis. Based on the research conducted, we found 11 species of herpetofauna which consisted of five species from Ordo Anura, four species from Subordo Lacertilia, and two species from Subordo Serpentes. Herpetofauna in Watu Joglo was widely distributed around the river. According to diversity analysis, Watu Joglo has moderate diversity index, 1.667. Besides, Watu Joglo has high evenness index which is 0.85 but low richness index which is 2.83.

Sun Island Bund Wetland (SIBW) is a river floodplain wetland located at the south part of Heilongjiang Province in Northeast China. An investigation of the influence of habitat type on macroinvertebrates assemblages structure was conducted in July 2016. Nine (9) sampling sites were selected based on sediment type, water condition, and aquatic vegetation type. Macroinvertebrates attributes including density, biomass, and four diversity indices (Simpson diversity index, Margalef richness index, Shannon-Weiner index, and Pielou evenness index) were assessed. A total of 53 taxa were collected during the study period, with the highest density dominated being from aquatic insects and gastropods.Bellamya purificataandExopalaemon annandaleiwere the most dominant among all the species. The results showed that the assemblages structure of macroinvertebrates in different habitats was significantly different. Also, the results with PCA showed that the higher values of invertebrates density, biomass, diversity indices, and species richness had a greater association with the habitat types of silt-humus sediment, closed lentic area, and submerged-flouting-emergent vegetation.

A study on macroinvertebrate diversity was conducted in Sungai Kisap, Langkawi, Kedah. Five stations were selected with a distance of approximately 500 metres apart with three replications of benthos and two replications of water sample. The results classified Sungai Kisap in Class I, which indicates very good water quality based on WQI recommended by the Department of Environment. A total of 2 phyla, 3 classes, 8 orders, 29 families, and 3564 individuals were successfully sampled and recorded. The presence of Hydropsychidae, Baetidae, and Chironomidae with a high abundance of the families show the potential to be used as biological indicators of a clean ecosystem. The analysis showed that the average value of Shannon Diversity Index, H’ (1.28), Pielou Evenness Index, J’ (0.45), and Margaleff Richness Index, DMG (2.80) indicates that Sungai Kisap is in moderate condition and the distribution of macroinvertebrates is uniform between stations. The correlation test showed that the WQI has a strong relationship with the diversity indices involved. BMWP, ASPT, and FBI showed that Sungai Kisap has good water quality.

Observation on mollusk on five estuary of Lamong Bay waters was conducted on June and October 2005. The aim of this study was to determine condition and community structure of molluscs living in those areas. Samples were collected using Eckmann grab and sieved through 0.5 mm mesh-sized. The number of mollusk species was 21 species, consist of 8 species class of Gastropoda and 13 species class of Bivalvia. A diversity index (H) ranged 0.802 to 1.028, an evenness index (J) was 0.923 to 1 and a richness index (D) was 15.126 to 20.959. In which Tellina palatum (Tellinidae) and Placemen calophyla (Veneridae) class of Bivalvia relatively wide distributed. In generally, this result showed that five estuary of Lamong Bay waters has a relatively low molluscs diversity.
