This paper reports the results of a programme of multifrequency observations of a sample of Blazars concentrating particularly on the millimetre through infrared region. Our observations have demonstrated the need for a new model to explain the spectral behaviour of a major flare in 3C273. This also provides a good description of the variability exhibited by Blazars. We have also shown that the radio through mid-IR synchrotron spectrum of 3C273 is a separate component from the optical/IR.

This paper tackles principal component analysis (PCA) in images that include wavelengths between 380-1000 nm. Our approach is focussed on taking advantage of the potencial of ultraviolet and infrarred images, in combination with the visible ones, to improve documentation process and rock art analysis. In this way, we want to improve the discrimination between pigment and support rock, and analyse the spectral behaviour of rock art paintings in the ultraviolet and infrared regions. Three images were used, one image from the ultraviolet (UV) region, one from the visible region (VIS) and another one from the near infrared region (NIR). Optical filters coupled to the camera optics were used to take the images. These filters capture specific wavelengths excluding radiation that we are not interested in registering. Finally, PCA is applied to the acquired images. The results obtained demonstrate the PCA usefulness with imagery in this field and also it is possible to extract some conclusions about the correspondent paint pigments.http://dx.doi.org/10.4995/CIGeo2017.2017.6597

This work presents a new model for the form factor of a star polymer consisting of self-avoiding branches. This new model incorporates excluded volume effects and is derived from the two-point correlation function for a star polymer. This model is compared with small-angle neutron scattering measurements from polystyrene stars immersed in a good solvent, tetrahydrofuran. It is shown that this model provides a good description of the scattering signature originating from the excluded volume effect, and it explicitly elucidates the connection between the global conformation of a star polymer and the local stiffness of its constituent branch.

A general adsorption model able to provide a good description of the multilayer adsorption of ions and molecular compounds under any circumstances is proposed in this paper. In order to reach this goal, a general form of isotherm was deduced based on the Gapon equation and classical isotherm forms. The adsorption of molecular compounds with diverse hydrophobicity and acid-base characteristics were investigated and validated with a new model for the adsorption of four pesticides on different soils. The adsorption capacity and adsorption energy estimated by the new model were found to be related to the organic matter content of the soil. Great differences were found in the isotherm parameters (A<sub>i</sub>, K<sub>i</sub>, and n<sub>i</sub>) among both the soils and compounds investigated here.

We have investigated the spectrograms (dispersion: 8Å/mm) in the photographic infrared region fromλ7500 toλ9000 of some carbon stars obtained by the coudé spectrograph of the 74-inch reflector attached to the Okayama Astrophysical Observatory. The names of the stars investigated are listed in Table 1.

X ray characteristic intensity Ii , emerging from element i in a bulk sample irradiated with an electron beam may be obtained throughwhere the function ϕi(ρz) is the distribution of ionizations for element i with the mass depth ρz, ψ is the take-off angle and μi the mass absorption coefficient to the radiation of element i.A number of models has been proposed for ϕ(ρz), involving several features concerning the interaction of electrons with matter, e.g. ionization cross section, stopping power, mean ionization potential, electron backscattering, mass absorption coefficients (MAC’s). Several expressions have been developed for these parameters, on which the accuracy of the correction procedures depends.A great number of experimental data and Monte Carlo simulations show that the general shape of ϕ(ρz) curves remains substantially the same when changing the incident electron energy or the sample material. These variables appear in the parameters involved in the expressions for ϕ(ρz). A good description of this function will produce an adequate combined atomic number and absorption correction.

Stochastic dependence among cognitive processes can be modeled in different ways, and the family of multinomial processing tree models provides a flexible framework for analyzing stochastic dependence among discrete cognitive states. This article presents a multinomial model of multidimensional source recognition that specifies stochastic dependence by a parameter for the joint retrieval of multiple source attributes together with parameters for stochastically independent retrieval. The new model is equivalent to a previous multinomial model of multidimensional source memory for a subset of the parameter space. An empirical application illustrates the advantages of the new multinomial model of joint source recognition. The new model allows for a direct comparison of joint source retrieval across conditions, it avoids statistical problems due to inflated confidence intervals and does not imply a conceptual imbalance between source dimensions. Model selection criteria that take model complexity into account corroborate the new model of joint source recognition.
