When two jets or streams of water moving with equal or unequal velocities meet at an angle and combine to form one common stream, the impact is usually accompanied by loss of energy, which may be large if the velocities are high. If the jets are free (exposed to air on every side), the pressures are unaltered by impact, and the loss may be readily calculated in terms of the initial velocities and angle of inclination, by an application of the equations of energy and of momentum. Where the streams are confined before and after impact—as, for example, where the streams outflowing from the impeller of a centrifugal pump impinge on the more slowly moving body of water in the volute, or where the two streams combine in the mixing chamber of a jet pump or injector,—both pressures and velocities are altered by the impact, and the available data are insufficient to enable the magnitude of the losses to be predetermined from a priori reasoning.

Many systems with liquid ejectors and centrifugal pump are known. Often, jet pumps are used to provide a self-priming mode, as well as an acceptable pressure level for cavitation-free operation. The main disadvantage of such systems is the relatively low efficiency associated with the peculiarities of energy transfer in ejector. To increase efficiency double surface jet pump with driving and suction flow swirl (with circumferential component of velocity) is proposed. The active flow swirling is ensured by using of multi-nozzle tangential nozzle inlet and passive flow part by a special blade system. Combination of these factors makes it possible to improve the efficiency of energy conversion process. In comparison with the known design increases pump efficiency by 10 % – 15 %. Flow swirl also permits to reduce horizontal overall size by increasing the diffuser angle and reducing the mixing chamber length. These positive effects can be achieved by using methods and recommendations given in this paper. The paper also includes ANSYS CFX numerical simulation study results of double surface jet pump and analysis of the impact of nozzle position, length of the mixing chamber and other geometry parameters on pump performance. The results allow optimize the constructive solutions.

A Regional Trauma Network (RTN), composed of one level I and several lower-level trauma centers (TCs) across multiple hospital systems, was established in 2010. This collaborative network used a unified triage protocol and a single transfer center. The impact of this RTN was assessed by evaluating regional mortality changes before and after RTN establishment. Patients in the state trauma registry aged 15 and older from 2006 to 2012 were analyzed; 2006 to 2009 and 2010 to 2012 were designated as pre-RTN and RTN periods, respectively. The region was defined as a county containing L1TC and its adjacent counties. Any counties bordering multiple L1TC-containing counties were excluded from analysis. Mortality was compared for all regions before and after RTN implementation. The following subgroups were also included a priori for the comparison: Injury Severity Score ≥15, age ≥65, and trauma mechanisms. 121,448 patients were analyzed; 66,977 and 54,471 patients were in the pre-RTN and RTN groups, respectively. Mean age was 58; 90 per cent had blunt injuries. The overall mortality was 4.9 per cent. Mortality comparisons over time for all regions are presented. The RTN region was the only region in the state that had mortality reduction in all patient subgroups. After adjusting for age, Injury Severity Score, level of TC that performed treatment, and trauma mechanism, RTN implementation was an independent predictor of survival (odds ratio: 0.876; 95% CI: 0.771–0.995, P = 0.04, c-statistic: 0.84). These findings suggest that regional collaboration and network-wide, uniform triage practices should be key components in the development of regionalized trauma networks.

An extension of the Hertz theory of impact to the oblique impact of elastic bodies with circular contact is outlined. The tangential compliance of the contact surface under the action of Coulomb friction is shown to have a significant effect on the rebound angles, if the local angle of incidence does not greatly exceed the angle of friction. Experiments are described in which the trajectory of a moving body is measured before and after impact with a fixed block of similar material. Results obtained using both steel and rubber show good agreement with the theoretical values.

Purpose The 2 most commonly used operations to treat velopharyngeal inadequacy (VPI) are superiorly based pharyngeal flap and sphincter pharyngoplasty, both of which may result in hyponasal speech and airway obstruction. The purpose of this article is to (a) describe the bilateral buccal flap revision palatoplasty (BBFRP) as an alternative technique to manage VPI while minimizing these risks and (b) conduct a systematic review of the evidence of BBFRP on speech and other clinical outcomes. A report comparing the speech of a child with hypernasality before and after BBFRP is presented. Method A review of databases was conducted for studies of buccal flaps to treat VPI. Using the principles of a systematic review, the articles were read, and data were abstracted for study characteristics that were developed a priori. With respect to the case report, speech and instrumental data from a child with repaired cleft lip and palate and hypernasal speech were collected and analyzed before and after surgery. Results Eight articles were included in the analysis. The results were positive, and the evidence is in favor of BBFRP in improving velopharyngeal function, while minimizing the risk of hyponasal speech and obstructive sleep apnea. Before surgery, the child's speech was characterized by moderate hypernasality, and after surgery, it was judged to be within normal limits. Conclusion Based on clinical experience and results from the systematic review, there is sufficient evidence that the buccal flap is effective in improving resonance and minimizing obstructive sleep apnea. We recommend BBFRP as another approach in selected patients to manage VPI. Supplemental Material https://doi.org/10.23641/asha.9919352

Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam which has a function of faith, social and economic functions. Muslims who can pay zakat are required to give at least 2.5 per cent of their wealth. The problem of poverty prevalent in disadvantaged regions because of the difficulty of access to information and communication led to a gap that is so high in wealth and resources. The instrument of zakat provides a paradigm in the achievement of equitable wealth distribution and healthy circulation. Zakat potentially offers a better life and improves the quality of human being. There is a human quality improvement not only in economic terms but also in spiritual terms such as improving religiousity. This study aims to examine the role of zakat to alleviate humanitarian issues in disadvantaged regions such as Sijunjung, one of zakat beneficiaries and impoverished areas in Indonesia. The researcher attempted a Cibest method to capture the impact of zakat beneficiaries before and after becoming a member of Zakat Community Development (ZCD) Program in material and spiritual value. The overall analysis shows that zakat has a positive impact on disadvantaged regions development and enhance the quality of life of the community. There is an improvement in the average of mustahik household incomes after becoming a member of ZCD Program. Cibest model demonstrates that material, spiritual, and absolute poverty index decreased by 10, 5, and 6 per cent. Meanwhile, the welfare index is increased by 21 per cent. These findings have significant implications for developing the quality of life in disadvantaged regions in Sijunjung. Therefore, zakat is one of the instruments to change the status of disadvantaged areas to be equivalent to other areas.

Abstract: This research aims to analyze the impact of Janti Flyover Construction toward the growth of layout at Janti Urban Area, including structured space, open space, and linkage. Method used for data collecting are observation, air photograph monitoring, and interview, whereas the analysis method is qualitative description, which is the superimposed method of two layers, that are the layout condition before and after flyover construction. The result shows that the impact of Janti Flyover construction can be seen on building mass (solid), the increasing number of open spaces, including the road network, parking place, and park, whereas the relation between spaces, visually and structurally, can be seen on the growth of buildings which have new shapes and styles, therefore the performance of the overall building does not have a proportional shape. Considering Janti Street at the collective relation, its role is getting stronger as the main frame road network. Keywords: Flyover construction, layout changing, Janti AreaAbstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh pembangunan Jalan Layang Janti terhadap perkembangan tata ruang Kawasan Janti, meliputi ruang terbangun, ruang terbuka, serta hubungan antar ruang (“linkage”).

The Financial Master Plan (2001- 2010) aims to enhance the capacity of banking industry so that higher effic iency and productivity can be reaped in the future. This study seeks to determine the impact of merger on the efficiency and productivity ofcommercial banks in Malaysia for the period 1995 until 2005. The study uses a non-parametric approach, nam ely DEA (data envelopment analysis?) to estimate the efficiency scores and to construct the Malmquist productivity index. To enable this estimation, three bank inputs and outputs are used. Amongst the findings are those banks exhibit higher efficiency score after the merger and thefo reign banks are more efficient than the local banks. Productivity of the banks is calculated in both periods, before and after the merger: The results show that, it is the local banks that have improved the most after the merger. The main source of productivity is technical change or innovation. The findings support the existing policy of having larger domestic banks in term of size.
