Map Matching (MM) algorithms are usually employed for a range of transport telematics applications to correctly identify the physical location of a vehicle travelling on a road network. Two essential components for MM algorithms are (1) navigation sensors such as the Global Positioning System (GPS) and dead reckoning (DR), among others, to estimate the position of the vehicle, and (2) a digital base map for spatial referencing of the vehicle location. Previous research by the authors (Quddus et al., 2003; Ochieng et al., 2003) has developed improved MM algorithms that take account of the vehicle speed and the error sources associated with the navigation sensors and the digital map data previously ignored in conventional MM approaches. However, no validation study assessing the performance of MM algorithms has been presented in the literature. This paper describes a generic validation strategy and results for the MM algorithm previously developed in Ochieng et al. (2003). The validation technique is based on a higher accuracy reference (truth) of the vehicle trajectory as determined by high precision positioning achieved by the carrier-phase observable from GPS. The results show that the vehicle positions determined from the MM results are within 6 m of the true positions. The results also demonstrate the importance of the quality of the digital map data to the map matching process.

Background: Recently, Internet of Things (IoT) has brought various changes in the existing research field by including new areas such as smart transportation, smart home facilities, smart healthcare, etc. In smart transportation systems, vehicles contain different components to access information related to passengers, drivers, vehicle speed, and many more. This information can be accessed by connecting vehicles with Internet of Things leading to new fields of research known as Internet of Vehicles. The setup of Internet of Vehicle (IoV) consists of many sensors to establish a connection with several other sensors belonging to different environments by exploiting different technologies. The communication of the sensors faces a lot of challenging issues. Some of the critical challenges are to maintain security in information exchanges among the vehicles, inequality in sensors, quality of internet connection, and storage capacity. Objective: To overcome the challenging issues, we have designed a new framework consisting of seven-layered architecture, including the security layered, which provides seamless integration by communicating the devices present in the IoV environment. Further, a network model consisting of four components such as Cloud, Fog, Connection, and Clients has been designed. Finally, the protocol stack which describes the protocol used in each layer of the proposed seven-layered IoV architecture has been shown. Methods: In this proposed architecture, the representation and the functionalities of each layer and types of security have been defined. Case studies of this seven-layer IoV architecture have also been performed to illustrate the operation of each layer in real-time. The details of the network model including all the elements inside each component, have also been shown. Results: We have discussed some of the existing communication architecture and listed a few challenges and issues occurring in present scenarios. Considering these issues, which is presently occurring in the existing communication architecture. We have developed the seven-layered IoV architecture and the network model with four essential components known as the cloud, fog, connection, and clients. Conclusion: This proposed architecture provides a secure IoV environment and provides life safety. Hence, safety and security will help to reduce the cybercrimes occurring in the network and provides good coordination and communication of the vehicles in the network.

The multi-degree-of-freedom high-precision positioning system (MHPS) is one of the key technologies in many advanced industrial applications. In this paper, a novel hyperbolic magnetic field voice coil actuator using a rhombus magnet array (HMF-VCA) for MHPS is proposed. Benefiting from the especially designed rhombus magnet array, the proposed HMF-VCA has the advantage of excellent force uniformity, which makes it suitable for multi-degree-of-freedom high-precision positioning applications. First, the basic structure and operation principles of the HMF-VCA are presented. Second, the six-degree-of-freedom force and torque characteristic of the HMF-VCA is studied by three-dimensional finite element analysis (3-D FEA). Third, the influence of structural parameters on force density and force uniformity is investigated, which is conducive to the design and optimization of the HMF-VCA. Finally, a prototype is constructed, and the comparison between the HMF-VCA and conventional VCAs proves the advantage of the proposed topology.

A necessary updating degree is vital for the digital map data in a vehicle navigation system. Only when the digital map data are well updated, can the quality of the navigation be assured. Today the companies devoting to the production of digital map data for vehicle navigation have to cost much labor, material and capital to collect and update data in order to maintain a necessary updating degree. Throughout the history of electronic navigation data updating, they have made considerable progress both on the methods and processes of data production, and the way of map management. Updating from the CD to the network, from the wired to the wireless, from the replacing to the incremental way, each of the technical changes is a power source to enhance the data updating rate. As we all know, the change detection is a prerequisite and base for the electronic navigation data updating. By rapidly developing the area with changes and using the appropriate updating method, we can scientifically maintain the original database of navigation data and terminal physical data. In view of this, starting from application needs for dynamic data updating, this paper analyses change detection methods of navigation data in different versions used for generating incremental data, and focuses on that of rasterizing features and attributes, exploring a new approach to quickly get the incremental data between versions.
