SUMMARYThe Authors have investigated by means of the immuno-electrophoretic method the protein composition of the funicular blood of 19 twin-pairs from pregnancies of 5 to 9 months. Monochorionic twins showed a concordant picture, while in 7 of the 14 bichorionic twin-pairs slight differences could be observed, due to the presence in one of the twins of one or two more lines. The Authors put these results in correlation with the hypothesis of a genie control of the production of proteins.

The purpose of this work was to determine the protein composition of whole saliva in 50 year-old patients an d older with manifested and terminal stages of periodontal disease, in correlation with control group of young healthy persons. Experimental and control group consisted of 30 patients. The periodontal status was determinate by using appropriate periodontal index (Sillness-Loe). Investigations were led by electrophoretic method on aragose gel which was used as a routine method for investigation of human serum proteins. Investigating in very alkaline conditions (pH-H) as well as acid conditions (pH=5.9) resulted in separating alkaline and acid glycoprotein fractions in whole saliva. Results showed that there were more separated fractions within basic conditions than within acid conditions. The fraction identification was done by using relative molecule mass determination method by Weber and Osborne. Molecule mass fractions at basic conditions in comparison with the healthy sample (Sz) indicated the destruction of big molecular weight alkaline proteins as well as a significant presence of acid fractions, of little molecule masses up to 60 000 (St), consequences due to aging processes in human organism. It can be concluded that changes in protein composition of whole saliva could point out to the direction and development of periodontal disease as well as changes concerning aging of human organism.

Protein Evaluation and Static life Table Cynaeus angustus (LeConte) (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) Abstract. Cynaeus angustus (LeConte) is characterized as a pest of stored grain, there is several food substrates on their feeding ecology including corn, wheat, sorghum and soybeans. But there is no record of their habits in peanut in natura, so the aim of this study was to present the static life table, to C. angustus in laboratory conditions using as substrate the peanut, and evaluate the protein composition in different stages of development C. angustus. The quantification of proteins was taken by microbiureto method and qualitative method was done per electrophoretic method. Protein quantitation indicated an increase of its values during development of insects: larvae 38,22 mg/mL, pupae 47,53 mg/mL and adults 60,00 mg/mL. It was possible to observe the electrophoretic profile C. angustus showed a significant increase in the variety of proteins (29-700 kDa) on the different stages of the insect. Data obtained from the population analysis indicate that C. angustus shows higher initial survival rates, high biotic potential and continuous developing in favorable conditions showing potential growing conditions and, that can be used as a nutritional source such as mentioned for other species of the same family.

Bovine cattle milk lactoferrin is industrially produced from cow’s milk and used in a variety of functional products, including baby food, nutritional supplements, dairy products, and veterinary drugs. The possibility of obtaining lactoferrin from lactic acid milk wheyrises a particular interest. The purpose of this study is to assess the possibility of using and adapting existing spectrophotometric methods for determining the concentration of total protein and an electrophoretic method for analyzing the protein composition of whey fractions and lactoferrin substances. A comparative study of two methods for determining the total protein in whey fractions and lactoferrin preparations biuret and Bradford method was carried out. The validation parameters of both methods were defined. An analytical range from 30 μg / ml to 1000 μg / ml characterizes the linearity of the Bradford method. The electrophoretic profile of milk, milk whey, whey fractions and substances of lactoferrinwere analyzed. The results obtained indicate a high information content of the electrophoretic method for characterizing the purification efficiency of whey fractions.

Summary1. The protein composition of bovine platelet extracts has been investigated by immunoelectrophoresis and polyacrylamide disc electrophoresis. The information obtained is discussed as a basis for study on platelet fibrinogen.2. With antiserum to platelet proteins 11 precipitin lines were observed 3 of which corresponded electrophoretically to plasma albumin, fibrinogen and γ-globulin. These lines were not seen using the same antiserum absorbed with bovine plasma. The 8 additional lines were still present indicating that they represented specific platelet components. Antiserum to plasma produced the 3 above-mentioned lines, but no others.3. With antiserum to purified bovine plasma fibrinogen 3 precipitin lines were observed. The fibrinogen line was the dominant one. The 2 additional lines did not disappear by absorption of the antiserum with bovine serum nor by incubation of the extracts with thrombin. The latter treatment totally removed the fibrinogen line.4. A non-fibrinogen precipitin line, observed only with the antiserum to platelet extract and positioned in the β2-globulin region, disappeared by the incubation of platelet extracts with thrombin.
