AbstractWe give a characterization of complex extreme measurable selections for a suitable set-valued map. We use this result to obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for a function to be a complex extreme point of the closed unit ball of Lp (ω, Σ, ν X), where (ω, σ, ν) is any positive, complete measure space, X is a separable complex Banach space, and 0 < p < ∞.

Let X be a complex Banach space and L(X) be the algebra of all bounded linear operators on X. For a given elementary operator P of length 2 on L(X), we determine necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a solution of the equation YP=0 in the algebra of all elementary operators on L(X). Our approach allows us to characterize some invertible elementary operators of length 2 whose inverses are elementary operators.

Abstract. Given a positive continuous function μ on the interval 0 < t ≤ 1, we consider the space of so-called μ-Bloch functions on the unit ball. If μ(t ) = t, these are the classical Bloch functions. For μ, we define a metric Fμz (u) in terms of which we give a characterization of μ-Bloch functions. Then, necessary and sufficient conditions are obtained in order that a composition operator be a bounded or compact operator between these generalized Bloch spaces. Our results extend those of Zhang and Xiao.

Throughout this paper X will denote a complex Banach space and all operators T will be assumed to be continuous linear transformations from X into X. If T is an operator then ┘(T), γ(T), and R(T) will denote the spectrum of T, the spectral radius of T, and range of T, respectively. This paper contains necessary and sufficient conditions for the (norm) convergence of {Tn} when T is an operator on X.

SynopsisWe study the existence of left approximate units, left approximate identities and bounded left approximate identities in the algebras (X)of all compact operators on a Banach space X and ℱ(X)− of all operators uniformly approximable by finite rank operators. In the case of bounded left approximate identities, necessary and sufficient conditions on X are obtained. In the other cases, sufficient conditions are obtained, together with an example of non-existence using a space constructed by Szankowski. The possibility of the sufficient conditions being also necessary depends on the question of whether every compact set is contained in the closure of the image of the unit ball under an operator in (X)(or ℱ(X)−). Sufficient conditions on X are obtained for this to be true, but it is conjectured that the answer for general X is negative.

Let 0 < s < ?. In this study, we introduce the double sequence space Rqt(Ls) as the domain of four dimensional Riesz mean Rqt in the space Ls of absolutely s-summable double sequences. Furthermore, we show that Rqt(Ls) is a Banach space and a barrelled space for 1 ? s < 1 and is not a barrelled space for 0 < s < 1. We determine the ?- and ?(?)-duals of the space Ls for 0 < s ? 1 and ?(bp)-dual of the space Rqt(Ls) for 1 < s < 1, where ? ? {p, bp, r}. Finally, we characterize the classes (Ls:Mu), (Ls:Cbp), (Rqt(Ls) : Mu) and (Rqt(Ls):Cbp) of four dimensional matrices in the cases both 0 < s < 1 and 1 ? s < 1 together with corollaries some of them give the necessary and sufficient conditions on a four dimensional matrix in order to transform a Riesz double sequence space into another Riesz double sequence space.

AbstractIn this paper, we study the Monge–Ampère equations $\det D^{2}u=f$ det D 2 u = f in dimension two with f being a perturbation of $f_{0}$ f 0 at infinity. First, we obtain the necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of radial solutions with prescribed asymptotic behavior at infinity to Monge–Ampère equations outside a unit ball. Then, using the Perron method, we get the existence of viscosity solutions with prescribed asymptotic behavior at infinity to Monge–Ampère equations outside a bounded domain.

AbstractS-box is the basic component of symmetric cryptographic algorithms, and its cryptographic properties play a key role in security of the algorithms. In this paper we give the distributions of Walsh spectrum and the distributions of autocorrelation functions for (n + 1)-bit S-boxes in [12]. We obtain the nonlinearity of (n + 1)-bit S-boxes, and one necessary and sufficient conditions of (n + 1)-bit S-boxes satisfying m-order resilient. Meanwhile, we also give one characterization of (n + 1)-bit S-boxes satisfying t-order propagation criterion. Finally, we give one relationship of the sum-of-squares indicators between an n-bit S-box S0 and the (n + 1)-bit S-box S (which is constructed by S0).

We study the separability of bipartite quantum systems in arbitrary dimensions using the Bloch representation of their density matrix. This approach enables us to find an alternative characterization of the separability problem, from which we derive a necessary condition and sufficient conditions for separability. For a certain class of states the necessary condition and a sufficient condition turn out to be equivalent, therefore yielding a necessary and sufficient condition. The proofs of the sufficient conditions are constructive, thus providing decompositions in pure product states for the states that satisfy them. We provide examples that show the ability of these conditions to detect entanglement. In particular, the necessary condition is proved to be strong enough to detect bound entangled states.

Abstract This work is concerned with Bielawski’s hyperkähler slices in the cotangent bundles of homogeneous affine varieties. One can associate such a slice with the data of a complex semisimple Lie group  $G$ , a reductive subgroup $H\subseteq G$ , and a Slodowy slice $S\subseteq \mathfrak{g}:=\text{Lie}(G)$ , defining it to be the hyperkähler quotient of $T^{\ast }(G/H)\times (G\times S)$ by a maximal compact subgroup of  $G$ . This hyperkähler slice is empty in some of the most elementary cases (e.g., when $S$ is regular and $(G,H)=(\text{SL}_{n+1},\text{GL}_{n})$ , $n\geqslant 3$ ), prompting us to seek necessary and sufficient conditions for non-emptiness. We give a spherical-geometric characterization of the non-empty hyperkähler slices that arise when $S=S_{\text{reg}}$ is a regular Slodowy slice, proving that non-emptiness is equivalent to the so-called $\mathfrak{a}$ -regularity of $(G,H)$ . This $\mathfrak{a}$ -regularity condition is formulated in several equivalent ways, one being a concrete condition on the rank and complexity of $G/H$ . We also provide a classification of the $\mathfrak{a}$ -regular pairs $(G,H)$ in which $H$ is a reductive spherical subgroup. Our arguments make essential use of Knop’s results on moment map images and Losev’s algorithm for computing Cartan spaces.

AbstractIn this article, we give necessary and sufficient conditions on a function to be a low-pass filter on a local field K of positive characteristic associated with the scaling function for multiresolution analysis of L2(K). We use probability and martingale methods to provide such a characterization.
