Sodium ion complex formation has been investigated potentiometrically in four homologous bis(crown) series I-IV differing by the nature of substituent placed at the linking trimethylene chain (X = OH, OCH3, OCH2C6H5 and H respectively). A marked enhancement of the complex stability has been observed in the bis(crown) series I and attributed to participation of the lateral hydroxyl group in the sandwich complex formation. Evidence in support of the sandwich structure has been provided (i) by analysis of the potentiometric data indicating a 1:1 complex stoichiometry and (ii) by a comparison of the complex stability data from the bis(crown) series I with the corresponding values from related monocyclic ligand series V, VI and VII revealing a pronounced cooperation of both macrorings in the sodium ion-bis(crown) I complex formation.

The arene ligand exchange mechanism of slipped arene triple deckers [Bis{(η5-CpR)Co}-μ-{η4:η4-arene}] (R = Me5, 1,2,4 tri-tert butyl, arene = benzene, toluene) 1 was studied by 1H-NMR spectroscopy for different concentrations and solvents. It has been found that triple deckers of type 1 decompose slowly in solution. A unique equilibrium, between these triple deckers and the mixed sandwich complexes [(η6-arene)Co(η5-CpR)] and 14 e [(η5-Cp)Co]solv fragments generated in situ by decomposition o f 1 exists. In addition to this equilibrium arene lability of the thus formed mixed sandwich complex type has been detected by NMR making slipped triple deckers 1 ideal single source compounds for the generation of two [(η5-Cp)Co] fragments in one reaction step. Such fragments are valuable metal ligand components with high synthetic utility in organometallic chemistry.

Highly-symmetrical, thorium and uranium octakis-carbene ‘sandwich’ complexes have been prepared by ‘sandwiching’ the An(iv) cations between two anionic macrocyclic tetra-NHC ligands, one with sixteen atoms and the other with eighteen atoms.

Abstract We have developed a new method for quantifying teicoplanin in complex matrixes, a receptor-antibody sandwich assay (RASA). The method is based on bioselective adsorption of teicoplanin onto microtiter plates coated with albumin-epsilon-aminocaproyl-D-alanyl-D-alanine, a synthetic analog of its biological target, and reaction with anti-teicoplanin antibodies. The sandwich complexes are detected by incubation with peroxidase-labeled goat antibodies to rabbit IgGs and chromogenic reaction with o-phenylenediamine. The dose-response curve was linear for teicoplanin concentrations in the range from 0 to 0.15 mg/L. We used the assay to measure teicoplanin concentrations in various biological matrixes. Analytical recovery from serum was 99.5%, the interassay CV was 5.1%, and the detection limit was 30 micrograms/L (P less than 0.01). Mean analytical recoveries from other biological specimens were 98% from ascitic fluid, 100% from pleuric liquid, 104.8% from prostate homogenate, and 98.5% from bronchial expectorate.
