The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of graded levels of sunflower seed oil (SSO) supplementation on lamb five-month-old carcass characteristics and commercial cuts.   Used 18 local male lambs, weaned, aged about 2 months, weight (10.21 ± 2.29 kg).  Experimental design used group random design. Each group of sheep get a complete ration with a different level of sunflower seed oil (SSO), namely (P0) = 0% SSO (control); (P1) = 4% SSO; (P2) = 6% SSO.  After animal five old age or 90 days feeding, randomly selected tree animals from each group were slaughtered The measured parameters include, weight slaughter, carcasses composition (meats, bones, fats), and commercial cuts of  carcasses (leg, loin, shoulder, breast, neck, shank, flank, rack).  The observation showed that the parameters are not affected by the treatment.    It can be concluded that the addition of 6% sunflower oil in a complete ration keeping the characteristics and commercial cut of local lamb. The aim of the study was to examine the effect of dietary supplementation of isomerized poppy seed oil (IPO) enriched with conjugated dienes of linoleic acid (CLA) on cow and sheep milk parameters (fat content, fatty acid profile, Δ9-desaturase index, and atherogenic index). The process of poppy seed oil alkaline isomerization caused the formation of CLA isomers with cis-9,trans-11, trans-10,cis-12, and cis-11,trans-13 configurations in the amounts of 31.2%, 27.6%, and 4.1% of total fatty acids (FAs), respectively. Animal experiments were conducted on 16 Polish Holstein Friesian cows (control (CTRL) and experimental (EXP), n = 8/group) and 20 East Friesian Sheep (CTRL and EXP, n = 10/group). For four weeks, animals from EXP groups received the addition of IPO in the amount of 1% of dry matter. Milk was collected three times: on days 7, 14, and 30. Diet supplementation with IPO decrease milk fat content (p < 0.01). Milk fat from EXP groups had higher levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids, including FAs with beneficial biological properties, that is, CLA and TVA (p < 0.01), and lower levels of saturated fatty acids, particularly short- (p < 0.01) and medium-chain FAs (p < 0.05). The addition of IPO led to a decrease in the atherogenic index.

An assay for the isoquinoline alkaloids of Argemone ochroleuca and A. mexicana seeds is described. The method consists of extraction into weakly acidified methanol and ion-pair high performance liquid chromatography with sodium lauryl sulfate and tartaric acid in acetonitri1e:water as eluent. Analysis of A. ochroleuca seed showed it to contain dihydrosanguinarine and dihydrochelerythrine (c. 3 : 2) as major alkaloid components with minor amounts of protopine, sanguinarine, berberine and chelerythrine. A single sample of authenticated A. mexicana seed contained dihydrosanguinarine as the major alkaloid with minor amounts of sanguinarine and berberine, in agreement with earlier studies. Dihydrosanguinarine and dihydrochelerythrine were measured as their oxidized products, sanguinarine and chelerythrine, after U.V. irradiation. A crystalline solid which separates from A. ochroleuca seed oil was shown to contain 11-oxo-octacosanoic acid and 11-oxo-triacontanoic acid, which are also the major components of a similar solid from A. mexicana seed oil. Mexican poppy seed (probably A. ochroleuca) collected from various regions of Queensland during 1987-89 showed that place of origin and length of storage of intact seed had little effect on alkaloid levels. Exposure of crushed seed to light, however, caused a rapid decrease in the concentration of dihydro-alkaloids. Total alkaloid content correlated with seed maturity, with immature seed containing much less than mature seed.

Abstract The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of dietary conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) and false flax (Camelinasativa) seed oil (CS) on bone quality in broiler chickens. Experiment was carried out on 96 chickens randomly divided into four groups: control group fed diet with sunflower oil (SO) and three experimental groups fed diet with addition of CLA (2.86% starter, 4.32% grower) and diet with addition of CLA (1.43% starter, 2.16% grower) and SO or CS (1.43% starter, 2.16% grower). On the 35th d of life eight birds per treatment were slaughtered and the femur, humerus, and tibia were isolated for further analysis. Using DXA method, bone mineral content (BMC) and bone mineral density (BMD) were measured. Furthermore, weight and length of bones were assessed. The weight, BMD, and BMC in chickens from CS+CLA group were significantly higher when compared with CLA group. The significant differences were noted for BMC between control and CS+CLA birds. No marked differences of bone parameters were observed between control group and CLA, and SO+CLA groups. In conclusion, the results indicate that false flax oil and CLA can replace sunflower oil in chickens feeding, and demonstrate the effectiveness of false flax oil on the enhancement of bone properties in broiler chickens.
