I. Introduction .—Investigations of amplitude for continuous sounds produced in a telephone by alternating current have been made by Lord Rayleigh, Franke, Cross and Mansfield. Lord Rayleigh found by an indirect process the value 0·05 µµ for frequency 512, and 0·7 µµ for frequency 256. Other values found by Lord Rayleigh§ are : 0·8 µµ ; 1·27 µµ . Toepler and Boltzmann obtained results of the same order. These results cannot be tabulated as the conditions are different, and in some cases unknown. Franke, by more direct measurement, obtained a value 1·2 µµ . The present writer‖ found by direct measurement a value 0·4 µµ in the case of an impulsive sound .

Listening, a significant dimension of the behavior of hearing-impaired children, may be measured directly by recording childrens' responses to obtain audio narrations programmed via a conjugate reinforcement system. Twelve hearing-impaired, school-aged children responded in varying ways to the opportunity to listen. Direct and continuous measurement of listening has relevance for evaluation of remediation methods and for discovery of variables potentially related to listening.

The present research analyzes the relationship between attachment styles at an adult age and field dependence in order to identify possible individual differences in information processing. The “Experience in Close Relationships” test of Brennan et al. was administered to a sample of 380 individuals (160 males, 220 females), while a subsample of 122 subjects was given the Embedded Figure Test to measure field dependence. Confirming the starting hypothesis, the results have shown that individuals with different attachment styles have a different way of perceiving the figure against the background. Ambivalent and avoidant individuals lie at the two extremes of the same dimension while secure individuals occupy the central part. Significant differences also emerged between males and females.
