Responsiveness to facial versus verbal cues as a function of dominant direction of conjugate lateral eye movements and sex was tested in a 2 × 2 analysis of variance design. Ss were 81 student volunteers. Right-movers ( n = 33) were more responsive to verbal cues; left-movers ( n = 45) were more responsive to facial cues ( p < .05). The results are consistent with the hypothesized link between conjugate lateral eye movements and functional asymmetry of the cerebral hemispheres. Males were more responsive to verbal cues; females were more responsive to facial cues ( p < .05). Data relevant to reliability of the eye movements, the relationship between sex and eye movements, and the relationship between type of question and eye movements are also presented.

<p><em>The purpose </em>of the work is to to identify the state of formation of future teachers of the health of the application of the method of functional asymmetry of the cerebral hemispheres in the professional activities, as well as check the formation of positive motivation for them in this activity. <em>Material and methods. </em>The definition and experimental verification of the effectiveness of the method of functional asymmetry of the cerebral hemispheres in professional activity was carried out on the basis of the humanitarian faculties (philosophical, economic) of the Kharkiv National University named after VN Karazin. 52 experimental students, 45 experimental groups, were involved in the experimental work. <em>Results.</em> The indexes of level of formation of students' knowledge of skills and abilities regarding the methods of application of functional asymmetry of the brain are determined. Positive dynamics of the formation of the attitude of the students of the experimental group towards holistic thinking and the possibility of its reproduction was established, where the high level increased by an average of 21.7%, (in the control group - by 5.2%); the number of students in whom the formation of a responsible attitude to health corresponds to a low level in the experimental group decreased by an average of 29.3%, and in the control group - by 9.1%. <em>Conclusions</em>. It was established that the methodological readiness of the future teacher of the basis of health to the application of functional asymmetry of the human brain in professional activity is considered as an integrative personality formation, which constitutes the unity of the value relation to the application of functional asymmetry of the human brain in professional activity in the educational environment of a comprehensive educational institution and professional knowledge, skills and skills to create an educational environment that is most conducive to the health of students.</p>

On the basis of electrophysiological and neuropsychological investigations the existence of cerebral hemispheric dominance has been established. Thus, a certain psycho-behavioural function may not be equally governed by either the left or the right hemisphere, a tendency towards lateralization coming into play (Sperri, 1974; Arseni, Golu, Dănăilă, 1983; Funnell, Carballis, Gazzanga, 2000). The functional asymmetry of the analysers is encountered both at the peripheral level, through the sensory-motor lateralization of paired receptors, and at the cortical level, through the asymmetrical functioning of the cerebral hemispheres. Consequently, tests for hemispheric dominance, as well as tests for lateralization must, respectively, be employed. When examining cerebral hemispheric dominance and lateralization, the characteristics of the organs under investigation are taken into account, and so is the age of the subjects. The examination of functional asymmetry in the case of analyzers with paired receptors has relied on an impressive number of trials, procedures, tests and questionnaires on lateralization, all suitable for the subjects’ age and for the psycho-physiological characteristics of the respective couple of paired organs. The combined use of lateralization tests specifically adapted for all paired organs (hand, eye, is essential in order to establish the degree of lateralization homogeneity. The examinations and the calculation of the laterality index are to be done periodically, the results being recorded in a chart that reflects the evolution of lateralization as a result of engaging the child in various activities meant for a specific type of lateralization.
