AbstractCOVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which has spread all over the world leading to a global pandemic. The fast progression of COVID-19 has been mainly related to the high contagion rate of the virus and the worldwide mobility of humans. In the absence of pharmacological therapies, governments from different countries have introduced several non-pharmaceutical interventions to reduce human mobility and social contact. Several studies based on Anonymized Mobile Phone Data have been published analysing the relationship between human mobility and the spread of coronavirus. However, to our knowledge, none of these data-sets integrates cross-referenced geo-localised data on human mobility and COVID-19 cases into one all-inclusive open resource. Herein we present COVID-19 Flow-Maps, a cross-referenced Geographic Information System that integrates regularly updated time-series accounting for population mobility and daily reports of COVID-19 cases in Spain at different scales of time spatial resolution. This integrated and up-to-date data-set can be used to analyse the human dynamics to guide and support the design of more effective non-pharmaceutical interventions.

Origin–destination flow maps are a popular option to visualize connections between different spatial locations, where specific routes between the origin and destination are unknown or irrelevant. Visualizing origin–destination flows is challenging mainly due to visual clutter which appears quickly as data sets grow. Clutter reduction techniques are intensively explored in the information visualization and cartography domains. However, current automatic techniques for origin–destination flow visualization, such as edge bundling, are not available in geographic information systems which are widely used to visualize spatial data, such as origin–destination flows. In this article, we explore the applicability of edge bundling to spatial data sets and necessary adaptations under the constraints inherent to platform-independent geographic information system scripting environments. We propose (1) a new clustering technique for origin–destination flows that provides within-cluster consistency to speed up computations, (2) an edge bundling approach based on force-directed edge bundling employing matrix computations, (3) a new technique to determine the local strength of a bundle leveraging spatial indexes, and (4) a geographic information system–based technique to spatially offset bundles describing different flow directions. Finally, we evaluate our method by applying it to origin–destination flow data sets with a wide variety of different data characteristics.

This chapter demonstrates important insights gained by adding spatial capabilities to marketing analyses. Four steps are described to produce a geographically enabled data set of the first year’s daily use for a major retailer’s loyalty card program at one store in a mid-western U.S. city. Traditional analysis is contrasted with results from a geographic information system (GIS). Probabilities of adoption were clearly tied to the geographic variables generated by the GIS; for example, over the whole year, the likelihood of someone adopting on a given day decreased 13.4% for each mile they resided away from the store, while each Innovator (adopted in the first two days) located within .6 mile of a prospective adopter increased adoption likelihood by 13.2%. Further, three very distinct spatial diffusion stages are visible showing adoption as a function of distance to the store itself, to the billboards, and to the earliest adopters.

Geographic Information System (GIS) database is built by ArcGIS software based on observation data in Lanzhou city. GIS data set was analyzed, including testing data distribution, the trend analysis of spatial data, data outlier analysis. According to the analysis results, the appropriate spatial analysis model is chosen to simulate and predict thermal field. Cross validation method is used to verify simulation accuracy and validity of model. Simulation map of urban thermal in is output by optimal model and parameters eventually. Results show that urban thermal field presents regular distribution in summer. The spatial distribution characteristics of thermal field have directly relations with land use type, urban energy consumption, population density, building volume rate, and thermodynamic properties of underlying surface.

The article is devoted to solving the problems of developing a geographic information system (GIS), which allows the use of GPS data on pocket personal computers (PPC) of employees to generate a report of their visits to outlets specified according to the plan, and to view deviations from the route. In the structure of EFKO Management Company, the KPI system (based on 1C) is used for work in the sales and logistics department, which allows organizing the activities of its sales staff by collecting and analyzing various indicators. In particular, the work of supervisors, merchandisers, as well as territorial and regional managers was organized. In order to provide the work of territorial managers and supervisors not only at the computer but also directly during visiting the outlets, to place an order for the counterparty not on paper but immediately enter into the program, it is necessary to implement a connection between 1C KPI and the ST-Mobile application, developed specifically for this purpose. Employees should be able to record current data into the system on visited outlets, fill out documents for pre-orders of outlets for further delivery, check the filling of the shelves with the company's products. The purpose of the GIS development is to organize the operational data exchange between the accounting system and the employees' PPC. The GPS data from the employee's PPC is compared with the GPS data set in the “Outlets” directory to create the “Agent's actual route” report, from which it will be clear whether the employee visited the outlet from his route or not, and how large the deviation from the route was. The paper provides a brief description of the software correction in the 1C Configurator mode, the developed procedures and functions in java-script. The proposed solutions allow one to select a point of sale on the map, as well as form a task for an employee's route to points of sale, to draw on the map (according to GPS data) the actual route of the employee and indicators of attendance at retail outlets. The developed GIS was implemented at EFKO Management Company in the sales and logistics department
